Me still wondering why a trombone doesn't fit in a sink

Sorry if I missed it but how often should I do this deep clean for say a trumpet and or mellophone?

If you play a lot then twice a year is probably good, if it’s a horn you don’t play much then once a year is probably fine. General rule if your instrument is starting to get stinky you waiting too long. As a band director of 15 years a lot of students wait too long ;) haha

Best way to give your brass instrument a bath: put it in the case. Put the case in your car. Drive car to the nearest repair guy. Drop your horn off. Pick up horn the next day. Pay repair guy. Horn will be not only clean but polished better than you could do it at home.
OR: make a mess in the kitchen; or make a mess in the bathroom. Compulsively worry about banging or scratching any of the parts. Irritate wife wanting to use the kitchen. Keep dogs and or kids out (even though they just want to help). Clean up your mess. Feel smug that you saved a C-note by cleaning your horn yourself. DON'T think about all the time it took when you could have been practicing.
I've used both of the above methods. I prefer the first one, thank you.

I been playing trumpet for 30 years. Cleaning it yourself isn’t that scary. Do you take your car to the dealership when it needs a wash? ;)

@@dustinmoe1819 I used to clean my own horn, a lot like this video shows. At my advanced age, I don't want to fuss with it anymore. Maybe taking it to shop is a luxury, one I can afford. Sort of like hiring a neighbor kid to mow your lawn. I could do it myself, like I did for decades, but now I'd rather pay someone to do it. No, I'm not filthy rich.
