It’s time for a Mercedes showdown!
We’ve got the all-new C63 here, and it’s facing off against the A45 and E63! The question is, will the all-new C63 come out on top? Let’s take a closer look at the stats.
Starting with the A45, it’s powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo that can produce 421hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,550kg. If you’re looking to pick one up, it costs around £64,000.
When it comes to the C63, it’s powered by the same engine as the A45. However, not only has it been tuned to have a higher output, it’s also equipped with an electric motor. As a result, the output is an amazing 680hp and 1,020Nm of torque! This is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at a fairly colossal 2,190kg! It’s also mightily expensive, costing around £100,000!
Then finally we have the E63. It’s housing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, and this can put down 612hp and 850Nm. It’s equipped with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, 4WD, and it weighs in at 1,990kg. It’s also cheaper than the C63, costing around £90,000 when new.
So will the newer C63 win it? Or will the V8-powered E63 snatch the win? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Probably a seized exhaust valve. I had it on my C43 with the perf exhaust and it cuts power and torque.

As a e63s owner that car either has a bad auxiliary battery/car battery. Or the exhaust flap has a malfunction. That always reduces power
Motor mounts did that mine. Hard launches messes up with the electronic mounts. The computer thinks the engine is tilting, and cuts power to save the front axles.

To be honest, I've always loved the C63 due to the W204 generation, but after driving a 2016 E63s, I fell in love with the E63s over pretty much any other car. The S63 I'm sure would be amazing as well, but at that point just seems to be too much. These new 63 models are overall disappointing from a performance standpoint, although I don't doubt they'd be comfortable
The 2016 E63 still handled worse than 2000 SLK 230 Kompressor.
What about driving the S65 AmG.

These are known to have issues with the exhaust valves. If an error code is give for the flaps, the car thinks they are closed, thus lowering the power in a soft limp mode
@@teamracing07 I had the same issue with mine driver side valve was stuck closed, it knew and lowered the boost wouldn’t give power past 4k, zero fault codes or anything diagnostic. Mapped them open and zero issues for last 2.5 years, should run a 11.1 standard with a good launch
This 4 cylinder is impressive. Even with this weight it has. The power out put is sport on. C63

The way they made the power was with a huge turbo that has massive lag and sounds awful

AMG has really cheapened its name by putting out all of these 4 cylinder models. They could’ve at least made the C63 a V6 hybrid. I mean look at BMW still putting a V8 in the M5. Mercedes have completely misread what consumers want.
If I want a popping and banging 4 cilinder I can buy 3 Golf Rs for the same price as a C63 AMG. In that price range I expect something really special. Yes a v8 or at minimum a v6. It is also about the experience. I wouldn’t care if the 4 cilinder is faster. A v8 is an entirely different experience and something special.
Interesting how the Mercedes E63 AMG completed the quarter mile time in 12.1 seconds when it meant to complete it in 11.1 seconds, which is quicker than the C63

Funny how Merc keeps sticking the "63" badge on, while under the hood is just a 4-cylinder matchbox. They're ashamed of small engines, we know that. And the worst part is, they know we know that. What a joke!
E63 dont have 6.3L engine and nobody blinks an eye. First ever AMG was a 3.6L 6-cylinder even so saying "it is not real AMG without V8" is just bullshit. There are no Turbos in Taycan Turbo S but yet it is Turbo S... There is a 1.3L engine in Koenigsegg and people call it engineering marvel. Yet when Merc does fast Formula 1 style hybrid it is a "shame to Mercedes".

But the point would still be relevant - why do they label this engine with the badge that is totally unrelated to it now? It's like 25 years ago all BMWs were easily identified: 520i had 2 litre engine, 530 had 3 litre engine, etc. Then they started to put 1.8L and yet called sych cars "320i". I find it absurd.

The A45s is a BEAST. AMG has to bring a 500hp r model of rhat
Don't know if possible though, the A45s is pretty much at its limits, the C43 with the same engine proves it, not much of a "tuning" headroom
@@Alexdbre the C already has 50hp more only with little tweaks to the engine. 550hp ECU tunes already did 100.000km+. 80hp increase plus an e-turbo would be an awesome spec for a higher trim
@@Alexdbrethe A45 is not at its limits. People have pushed them to 600+ with no issues. There’s plenty in the mid 10 second range with an upgraded turbo.

And you should put the C-class AMG up against the Tesla model 3 Performance.

well, you need to do the Revs / Sound check a bit "different"
Switch to S+ or Race, go into "P" and pull the up or down shift on your steering wheel.

I bet some one tried to "optimize" the ECU of the E63 and totally spoiled the settings. This happens often because with an ECU modification, not just one ECU, but also many inconspicuous ones have also to be adapted.

Twinturbo meant two turbos of different size, mostly a small one for faster throttle response working at lower revs and a large one for the upper revs.
(BMW even built a Triturbo 3L inline 6 Diesel at some point. The 535d and 335d they were called iirc And Mercedes experimented with 3 turbos on the V6 Turbodiesel for some time where they mixed the principle completely: 2 small turbos, one for each bank and one large one for both banks and higher revs and more boost. They ditched it for too much complexity and never put it in production i think.)
But at some point nobody cared to use the terms this way anymore and so today they are used interchangably mostly.

That is so disappointing that the E63 wasn’t performing at it’s full capacity! I’ve had run-ins with A45s in my E63S wagon and it are them like nothing.
A 45s 421cv e 500nm for 1550kg Vs 63s 614cv 850nm 1990kg and a45s stage2 500cv 610nm 1550kg is similar for 400metri

9:06 The comparison was on two different model year E63 AMGs. One was an older 2017/18 model, the other was a newer 2020/21 model. You can tell by the headlights, interior, steering wheel, rims, etc, etc. The MBUX System upgrades alone from 2018 to 2021 are fairly significant... While Merc doesn't promote this, the numbers don't lie; the proof is in the pudding. Seemingly a big difference in engine performance through CPU/ECU/TCU upgrades... or, alterations shall we say. While designed to limit to the same hp and torque numbers as the previous models in order to keep more power for the GT 63. models, one may consider the fine print... 603hp at between 5,500-6000 RPM vs 5,500 RMP flat. Older one MAY* require pushing the engine a bit more to achieve the same results---if it every can truly get to those numbers (especially with engine wear over time). That's just one side of the argument... and I'm impartial to both.
That 4th car came in close on 8:15 and it wasn't even trying!
Now you understand what's is do or can do e turbo charger always beat any turbo more heavy vs others still beat them all. The fun is a45s beat v8 this shame.

The damn 2.0 L just eats everything up. An M3 G80 with 3.0 L R6 cylinder and now a 4.0 L V8 cylinder. What's wrong with this beast. What a car!!
What's interesting is that VAG EA888 motor is arguably the greatest modern tuner engine out there. In my 2015 MK7 Golf R, with just a simple downpipe and APR stage 2 ECU tune, I was reaching just under 11.7 in the 1/4, and 0-60 in 3.51.
They are putting down similar times, with just simple tunes and the A45s has about 130 more HP stock for stock.
My stage 1+ e85 2018 rs3 ran 10.77 quarter mile.

476 hp from a 2.0L is nuts. If the 4.0L had that specific output, it would make 952 hp. Which is obvious, but puts into perspective how hard that 4 cylinder engine is working

been watching the ''estate'' enthusiasts celebrating estates over SUVs for years but it really doesnt looks nice going fast.. maybe pack it up with people and do a remote getaway or do something else practical like a couch-test where you can see which estate (if any) can actually load a couch when helping with moving stuff
I don’t know about the uk soft limiter stuff. All Benz has soft limiter now, but that generation of the e63s, at least in race mode, is extremely loud, a pure machine gun
I know someone who has an E-class from the same generation..... It keeps entering limp mode every once in several months, over and over again.... He was in several official Mercedes service stations, all they can do is reset his car for a hefty fee, keeping it working until it again does the same and he has to revisit the Mercedes service and again pay to reset his car. They told him they can't find why it does that, it just does .... Very frustrating for him
They should do a tuned cla 45s vs the new c63 to see if it's worth spending £100k when you could spend lil over half the price for something similar

If them figures are accurate on the tuned 45s then I'd guess it's not had the gearbox map and that makes a massive difference to the torque apparently. Would be interesting to see that race again with 1 that has had it done tho.

E63s owner here, should run a 11.1 1/4 back to back to back like mine did before I tuned it, quicker than the new c63s… 11.5 with nearly 700hp 😂 shambles. what a shame for the E. Also I had a similar issue, my exhaust valve stuck closed on one side and it knew and lowered the boost and wouldn’t give power past 4k but showed zero fault codes and nothing on a diagnostic, I worked it out via sound. Fixed and zero issues for the last 2 years of ownership at stage 2 power runs a mid to low 10 @138mph things an animal

There are a few things here that are concerning... The weight, sound and complexity of the C63. The A45 must have engine longevity issues with the ridiculous specific output per litre. DMS offer great tunes but surely that A45 won't take many miles at that horsepower. In fairness the new M5 has the same issue as the C63 with weight.
Those 2 A45 gave me an idea. Get the same car 3 times, do all the challenges and see which performes a bit better. Nearly all cars don't perform the same also when it's the same car. This would be interesting
