It’s time for an estate showdown!
We’ve got our hands on the BMW M3 Touring, and it’s facing off against one of the most powerful estates ever - the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate!
So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the BMW, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can deliver 510hp and 650Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,865kg. If you’re looking to buy one of these, it’ll set you back at least £88,000.
Then we have the AMG. It’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, and this can produce 612hp and 850Nm. It rolls up equipped with a 9-speed automatic gearbox to send power to all four wheels, and it’s the heavier of the two cars, weighing in at 1,940kg. Back when this was released in 2019, it would cost you around £110,000.

What is "Anticipated Starts" btw?
That’s when you let go off the brake pedal or step on the gas to make your car move before actually first visualising the “GO” procedure. This is usually done to eradicate as much a delay between a cars initial movement and drivers engagement of power off procedure. That delay obviously varies from car to car and that’s why the merc ended up winning the drag races because sam factored in the delay time by setting off just before “GO” hand signals.
That E63s looks really classy with those silver wheels and chrome accents! Like the older E-class AMGs!

the jumping he did against that Chris bloke on the 1000bhp M3 vs M1000rr was outrageous. Honestly go watch that and watch the after-edit camera zoom trickery they had to pull in order to even air that. He basically jumped him in the rolling races by about an 8th mile. Its disgusting levels of jumping and he had the brass neck to sit in that car and act like he won. I went over to the Chris guys channel and watched their footage and on one race Mat is basically holding up three fingers on the countdown and flooring it on the three😂 One look at the comments on there and the bikers all telling them not to race Mat again unless its at a drag strip or lighted event.

My dad has a 2018 e63 and it's honestly the best daily ever. Super practical with a MASSIVE boot. Comfy as hell but still corners beautifully and the suspension stiffens up nicely in sports + mode. And then obviously the power is brain melting. I want my own one day.

nice showcase of how a good 4wd system works. At first it allows the rear to step out(helps with steering) a bit and when the front axle finally kicks in, it pulls ya straight again. Perfect

The whole point of the hands and count down is that the drivers are supposed to be able to time their start rather than react to it. It’s the best way to take the driver’s reaction time out of it and focus more on the car’s performance. I agree it’s still not perfect as Matt is very good at timing the start (so is Sam actually, as he explained here it’s the inherent Mercedes launch delay that was making his job more difficult here) so he often gets an advantage over other drivers, but that’s their fault, not his, and the solution isn’t to go to a more random lights system like F1 because that would become even more a test of driver reaction times and even less about the cars.
@@davidburke2132One driver having an advantage over another makes this report you wrote moot completely. Random light is better hence why F1 uses it to begin with you literally contradicted yourself.
That's actually the version of the previous E-Class I like the most (the front was better before the facelift...and way better than the new one imo).

The Facelift M3s are getting 20HP bump. A special M3 Touring version will also be released after the M2 CS and M4 CS.
There actually is a M3 CS Touring coming soon.

Only mercs I like is the E class, it’s a blend of luxury family performance rolled in one. Perfect car that Mercedes made. I agree I don’t like them after this model.
Something is widely wrong with this race. The m3 touring has never gotten an 11.6 quarter mile. That is the slowest time ive ever seen. In the wet vs the rs6 on this channel the m3 touring beat the rs6 and posted an 11.4 IN THE WET... Doesnt add up.. looks like the toruqe converter was misfiring on the m3..

Personally I think that shape Merc is one of the prettiest estates ever built .
It's so good that Merc didn't change it. The new 2024 model has almost exactly the same shape. Besides the bumpers and rear lights you really have to look to make them apart. The estate is much better looking than the sedan.

Great vid. As a E63s stage 2 tuned owner I just had to comment. Firstly it had to be in race ESP fully off & most importantly Manual mode to engage drift… secondly I have a saloon and 1/3 of tank of fuel mine actually weighed 2050kg and it’s decat so clawed some weight back there. So merc tell fibs on the weight always more than claim & BM tell fibs on the power and weight more power and lighter. Love that g80 it’s the only car id swap to from mine. Good vid
on an older dynojet machine BMW make about 3-5hp less than claimed. Its just the purple @Ki tuner garages have the dyno set to overread massively.

I would love to see Mat take a crack at both cars when it's just a two car race and see if he can extract more out of the other car. He's so good at the launch that when you have two cars so close it makes all the difference in the world. Plus it allows him bragging rights over the other drivers!
I’m just in love with the v8 sounds from Mercedes engines. They’re truly unlike no other in their sound. U can just hear each piston fire and explode but insanely quick so it’s sounds perfect. 🥵
