    Any Kiwi teenager worth his salt rode an XR in the early to mid 80s, they were road legal here in NZ, as were TTs ITs PEs etc. You could get your full license at 15 back then and i had an old twin shock 79 XR 250. About 2 months before my 16th all the money i'd saved from my weekend job plus Dad loaning me the rest, and i was the proud owner of a 82 XR 500. The one with the white number boards, On a friday night outside the burger bar in my small town there would be at least a 15 bike row of mainly XRs but some TTs and maybe the one weirdo on a Suzuki TS185 ER. :-) There was this wacky law that if the Traffic cops were chasing you, and you made it to your house, there was nothing they could do, they couldnt come on your property or fine you. It made for some exciting rides, and very pissed off grudge holding traffic cops. :-) Happy days.

    I pulled the shock out, then the air box and the the carbs came out without too much trouble. It takes more time but I ended up with more room to work and less busted knuckles.

    Great video. At 13:46, That's a cool trick. My question is: If you don't have the honda tool for the head/base bolts, how do you torque them when you reinstall?

    • @trxtech3010
      @trxtech3010  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just snug them down and do and a 1/4 turn.

    You did a great job explaining things. The reason those rockers are cooked is friction caused by oil starvation and/or upgraded valve springs. Too much pressure on soft OEM rockers but more likely oil starved

    • @trxtech3010
      @trxtech3010  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! And yeah i believe it was starved of oil.

      TRX Tech Awesome! Any advice for getting the cam gear off with my seized engine? I won’t be able to turn it to access the other bolt. Not sure what I’m going to do when I get to that part.

      oofee leelee Good question... I'd say Since you have to rebuild the bottom end anyways cut the timing chain with a cut off wheel on a grinder.

    • @trxtech3010
      @trxtech3010  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep this one is a Dual Carb set up. As for the rocker arms they were worn pretty bad. No joke about a millimeter deep.

      es posible que solo sea necesario ajustar las válvulas, lo cual es bastante simple, solo busque cómo ajustar las válvulas en un Honda 400EX o un XR 400 y son exactamente los mismos pasos. En cuanto a encontrar piezas, pruebe este enlace del sitio web que le dejo a continuación y haga clic en la marca y el modelo de su año y debería poder encontrar un diagrama de piezas con todas las piezas que necesita. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-parts
