I'm glad you give attention to mechanical distibutors like the 25D and 45D. When still an amateur on my 1972 USA Tourer, I replaced a worn 25D with a 45D (now I would have repaired it) and still hold a spare 45D. for the future. Because of the RVI type of revcounter in place, moving to a electronic type like the CSI is not a straightforward job. And in case of electronics failure you've got no backup. With spare points and condenser mechanical ones are easy to repair. Greetings from Holland

Thanks for the videos. Could you help me understand how having less mechanical advance enhances the performance. And do you keep the same initial advance ? Does this have vacume advance and is it hooked to manifold vacume. Thankyou , I am just trying to understand

Hi John. Love the videos. Just a little suggestion in the interest of safety. You should always stand off to the side when starting up a grinder, if there is a problem with the stone, maybe someone accidentally hit it, it could explode when coming up to speed. Once it is up to speed that danger is no more.
    Cheers!

another great video John - thanks.
I don't suppose you can explain somewhere how the lucas distributor (in my case - 41404 I think) runs without a vacuum advance ? What happens when you drive up a hill ?

do you have to use a protractor with the rotor to measure your advance? Seems you could also make some distance measurements and trig to measure the angle?

Hep me John, you're my only hope. I've been following you for years(before I bought my MGB)! So I've owned my '77 B for about 6 years and I've recently decided to change the distributor. The previous owner fit a crane cams fireball XR700 ignition system, and I'm not exactly sure which distributor would be compatible with it. Crane cams website doesn't provide the information I'm looking for, but I thought if anyone did it would be you. Could you steer me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Interchange distributors between MGC and MGB or Midget? I don't think so, if you want the engine to run!
