I haven't seen anyone else talking about this, but between this and Mina the Hollower having ANOTHER Kickstarter, I'm starting to get concerned that Yacht Club Games got a little bit too successful for their britches. We've already seen them make those bizarre Triple-A-esc decisions before, (not releasing Plague of Shadows seperately, etc.) but this is starting to cement to me that the company is not destined to be seen favorably down the line.
All of those decisions are pretty easy to explain. Plague of shadows wasn't released separately because they considered the games 'expansions' rather than different games at the time. Specter Knight was so different that they ended up turning the original Shovel Knight into a collection where all of the games are free to people who already own it, when a lot of other companies would've released them all as paid DLC. Mina needed a kickstarter, and I'm guessing they're making this game for funding so they don't have to do yet ANOTHER kickstarter for the next shovel knight game, a lot of these characters were in showdown, so I'm sure it was just a matter of porting them over and adjusting them to control better and such. Yacht Club is an investor-free company, so they don't immediately have all the money they need for a project, everything comes from crowdfunding and game sales, and they need to make sure their employees are all paid.
For Mina the Hollower, they explained on their website the kickstarter as "community interaction," specifically stating that they were not short on funding. There are certainly easier ways to do that, that don't involve $3000 tiers. Hence what I find confusing about the whole situation. And, if they did need a kickstarter for the game, or are using the funding instead for the next Shovel Knight game, that lack of transparency is equally concerning. I suppose what I'm saying is, I forsee Yacht Club being seen in the future with the same scrutiny as Nintendo or Microsoft for "dumb" decisions, which is not a good sign for the indie scene: what happens when indie studios no longer become the "trustworthy" developers?
@@YellowpowR The website also specifies that the kickstarter allows it to be a 'more expansive' game, meaning, that, yeah, they would've finished the game without it, but having it probably bought them another few years of development time to add more content and polish it up. Plus a community of backers is probably a lot more valuable and manageable than something like a discord, I wouldn't take that route myself, but I can see why it's a reason for them after Shovel Knight went well.
@@themc3140 Thanks for pointing out that other specification on their website for me. The point of a Kickstarter, as I see it, is you don't have the money to make your initial project, and if other people want to see it made, they'll support the project monetarily, and be rewarded accordingly. Have you ever noticed how doing another Kickstarter after your first one succeeded is essentially unheard of? Because once you've succeeded in that initial Kickstarter and have money, the expectation is that you use the revenue you've obtained to make your next product. I personally would feel bad starting another Kickstarter after already having a greatly successful one, so from my perspective, those who apparently don't concern me just a little. But it's really in combination with the other stuff that makes me concerned at all.

I wish there was a Shovel Knight Maker, similar to Mario Maker. Would be so fun for players to customize stages and bosses etc.
Cool. Now where's Mina The Hollower?
Honestly
The same place as Silksong.
and I'll still buy it!
I haven't seen anyone else talking about this, but between this and Mina the Hollower having ANOTHER Kickstarter, I'm starting to get concerned that Yacht Club Games got a little bit too successful for their britches. We've already seen them make those bizarre Triple-A-esc decisions before, (not releasing Plague of Shadows seperately, etc.) but this is starting to cement to me that the company is not destined to be seen favorably down the line.
wait wtf you mean mina has another kickstarter??
Man I sure was excited for this game 10 years ago.
I'll probably get this, but Mina The Hollower info pleaaaaaaase
I kickstarted that game like 3 years ago 😭

Yacht Club is the Derek Zoolander of game devs. “One game, ONE GAME!? I don’t think so!!”
I genuinely can't figure out what this is supposed to be. Is it basically just the Shovel Knight campaign by itself without the other three campaigns (plague knight, specter knight, and King Knight).
Yes.
That's why it's "Shovel of Hope" DX, not "Treasure Trove" DX
Local AND Online multiplayer is CRAZY.
I really, really hope this releases on other consoles too...
At some point I would like a sequel you know
They’re literally said they’re working on it if you actually kept tabs on their TH-cam channel for updates.
It’s in the yacht direct.
@@gaze1ngm0rph1c4 I think a little annoyance after a decade of waiting, and with no release date in sight is somewhat understandable.
@jacklawsen6390 no it's really not considering shovel knight got 3 extra campaigns, and an entirely separate game mode, and yacht club announced a new game years ago, and a sequel months ago, stop being entitled
@@jacklawsen6390if you were waiting on a shovel knight sequel before it was announced, that's your fault for getting waiting for a game you didn't know would exist
First we got Shovel Knight Treasure Trove with four different playable characters, each with their own stories. Now there's this.
Kind of a cash grab. Im sure people who bought treasure trove just want the new game already
Gotta say this was almost the only game that got my interest in yesterday's Indie World and Partner Showcase Directs because I LOVE Shovel Knight games since on PS4 and 3DS! 😊❤
How many times do you expect me to by this game?
They should change their studio name from ‘Yacht Club Games’ to just ‘Yacht Club *Game’.*
gta v, shovel knight and skyrim are a meme right now xd
ok but if they made Plague of Shadows DX and it had brand new levels that would be so hype
I’m definitely going to buy this!
Stereoscopic 3D?! Okay, I’m interested
I love shovel knight but unless theyre gonna do an actual proper sequel they need to let the series chill for a bit. Still im looking forward to the other game theyre making wish that was at this showcase lol
They're already making Shovel Knight 2, which they heavily implied to be 3D.
Me: I don’t see anything different.
*20 playable characters
Me: you now have my attention.
Rather have a new game now being this many years later
More than 10! 💁♂️
Stop with the hate, this looks cool! And what if it’s the 7th time, they still improved on it!
This looks cool
I was gonna mention this reminds me of the skyrim re releases, but 20 playable characters and co-op are some legit additions
Say what you want about indie games like FNAF "milking" their franchises, at least they had more than one game.
Shovel knight has had more than one game as well. Pocket Dungeon and Dig released not too long ago.

Why couldn't have this been an update for treasure trove? You know a already complete edition of Shovel Knight?
No
@@pokeomYou say why, he answers no 🤔
Treasure Trove isn't a 'Complete' version, it's a collection of five shovel knight games with different characters, movesets, levels, heck, one of them is a different genre. This is a deluxe version of the first shovel knight game.
@@themc3140 I don't know why they waited this long then and keep re-releasing treasure trove or the base game multiple times. This should've released instead of treasure trove.
@@Beastman45Games They didn't? Treasure Trove is a collection game. It was originally just Shovel Knight (The game that's getting a deluxe version here), but they promised to make campaigns with the other characters and a battle mode in the original kickstarter, and those campaigns & battle mode became so big they basically became new games, and were released separately in addition to being added to treasure trove, for free if you had already purchased it.
So to break it down:
Treasure Trove has Five Games
-Shovel of Hope
-Plague of Shadows
-Specter of Torment
-King of Cards
-Showdown
This game just has Shovel of Hope with some new content. It is not a definitive version of treasure trove, just the original shovel knight game.
Such a good game to play on a lazy Sunday with many ciders.
These are literally all the same levels from when the game first release in September 2013. It would great if the creators actually made a new Shovel Knight game instead of reselling more updated versions of a 2013 hit title. I know that they came out with Shovel Knight Dig, but nobody wanted that. Just stick to the original pixel art with new levels, new story, and new items.
they did that 4 times
Sequel was announced 2 months ago
Can't Wait for Shovel Knight Treasure Trove DX
We could of been on like Shovel Knight 9 by now with how many ports this One Trick Pony Company has dished out
They've released other games though
@@ellenpoisson5514 They're obviously not memorable then
@@ellenpoisson5514 Multiple of which were developed by other people.
@@Spintechfilms They are, you just haven't heard of them. Acting like they've only ever released one game is disingenuous, especially since the only time they ever rereleased this game is to put it on consoles that did not already have it. This is just an anniversary edition for people who want it. They've been working on a full sequel and a non-SK IP, as well as publishing other smaller indie titles.
I honestly cannot wait for shovel knight DX Hyper Turbo Edition
Good god, you people have actually turned into Bethesda! All you do is rerelease the same game, year after year after year, only adding in *minor changes and additions* to try and justify the price tag!
Could you list the times it was re-released? Strange that I can only think of once, and it's now.🤔
@@ridleyisbored.5393 Cyber Shadow just doesn't exist lmao
@@alfalldoot6715 Yacht Club didn't create Cyber Shadow. Digital Head Studios did. Yacht Club *published* Cyber Shadow, which is something entirely different. But you wouldn't know that if all you did was a quick Google search of "yacht club games."
Hope the next Shovel Knight is a 3D platformer
Geez they have made me sick of this game, every year its the same game
This is the first time it's been re-released outside of being included in a collection... Since 2019. And this game is a 10th Anniversary Edition.
As long as all the characters have dialogue unique to them the is a 100% buy from me. As I will beat the game with everyone for that dialogue.
SHOVEL KNIGHT WITH LOCAL MULTIPLAYER?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS MAY JUST BECOME MY FAVORITE GAME OUT OF NOWHERE
I was like "what makes this DX?" Then "20 playable characters" appeared.
Oh.
I am so ready to shovel my hope in a deluxe manner
