he's quickly becoming one of my favorites. he's very talented and very humble. i like how he really seems to be in touch with the people and their questions. he seems very genuine.
+EvansPercussion yeah... But still... Any chance to see his foot when he's talking about foot tech and playing. Just want to see that speed and see if he's human or not.
It sounds like he is the type of musician who is always trying to progress his capabilities and I personally think that is something that deserves some respect.
i don't know anything about drums but I have a feeling this would be like micheal jordan explaining people how to dunk from the free throw line or tom brady on how to throw a 60 yard pass...... not natural.
@Freedome23 You can tell it by looking at these things: 1. Lugs, they are quarter turret lugs on the toms and bass drum, and they are different even on the snare (like tube lugs). 2. Badges, they are black with dw written in black (black on black with a white outline). 3. Colour, that's the Saphire Blue, they made it ad hoc for that series. 4. By the time the video was shot the performance series was ready, but not yet released, in fact they changed the resonant head mounting the collector's one
@bfish420 you clearly haven't been to pasic before. the environment is really friendly, and the clinicians (in this case thomas pridgen) really get in tune with the crowd and ask for people to come up on stage for lessons etc.
he builds speed we can understand by smoking mad blunts and slowing down so we can hear and understand. i imagine his day to day life as that futurama where Fry drinks 300 cups of coffee and sees the world in slow motion
can any drummers on here give an idea of what his sticking is with the left hand....i see him do a lot of crazy videos and his left is always throwing down doubles which is part of a whole lick that i cant spot with my eye...any help ??? thomas is a beast!!!
Ok that's a coincidence I was just doin those exercises on the pedal for speed, even though I was struggling, he made that look so easy I have to do those exercises so slow lol, this dude, Tony royster, and Aaron spears are animals with footing and Dee Curry
I do those practices too lol developing pedal speed is so hard man, sometimes I feel like I should just buy double pedals but then I see guys like Thomas and it's like "he doesn't use double pedals and he's getting along just fine, why don't I just practice more and do the same thing?" Thomas is really one of greatest drummers out there today! He really inspires me to get better behind the kit.
I happed up on dude while I was in college..he's been my secret weapon ever since! Sickly amazing and innovative. Keep eatin' cereal bruh so @EHansen can keep hatin'.
@bddrumma17 He's using a stack . Im not sure which two cymbals he uses to make up the stack, but check out his set-up. They should have it there. Peace, The Drum Commentator
he shoulda stayed with the mars volta, but now they have a super-bad ass named Deantoni. bringing back the musicality and finesse= cohesive power. still, gotta give it up to the raw chops of Pridgen, rock never seen a man drum like this man before.
For the record, thumbs up is considered French Grip and Palms down is German Grip. The more modern hybrid where the hand is at an angle is called American Grip. They are all variations of Matched Grip. Glad to see PASIC is ok with incorrect teaching information.
@beatsandthings I bet he has done that, he'd bang on anything, haha but he plays with so much wrist and finger motion, and the point of playing on a pillow is to build that up on a surface with NO rebound, so that you can work LESS when you get on a drum or cymbal and play twice as full with half the effort, cuz the stick does all the work... so in short if you want to sound like him play tons of rolls and flam accents on pillows, it worked for me, anyway
Practice is what he's saying. Asking and learning technique correctly from a more experienced drummer he also made a reference about that answering the how u get that fast question. Woodshed tho like a M****F**ker too. I know this dude stayed on a kit, when he was younger, and prolly still does.
he's quickly becoming one of my favorites. he's very talented and very humble. i like how he really seems to be in touch with the people and their questions. he seems very genuine.
I actually think he would be a really awesome person just to sit and hang with. He seems really down to Earth, friendly, and very funny.
4:30 that paraddidle groove has the same structure of Ouroborous when he played for The Mars Volta
why the hell didn't they show his foot from 3:50-3:59!?!?!?
prague The same foot technique is illustrated but with a halftime groove at 3:30
+EvansPercussion yeah... But still... Any chance to see his foot when he's talking about foot tech and playing. Just want to see that speed and see if he's human or not.
What a great and inspiring attitude! Awesome!
3:52 blew my mind, he plays fast, but makes it swing, unlike most people on their double bass pedals.
It sounds like he is the type of musician who is always trying to progress his capabilities and I personally think that is something that deserves some respect.
awesome favorite drummer
i don't know anything about drums but I have a feeling this would be like micheal jordan explaining people how to dunk from the free throw line or tom brady on how to throw a 60 yard pass...... not natural.
excuses. shed 8 hours a day like he did and then talk about natural or not natural.
what a great guy
Thomas is the man! Thanks for the upload! :)
He's such a down to earth guy!

just realised but love the yell at 0:16 hahaha
You are high. Saw him in concert at a tiny venue in new olreans and my mind was blown. I have never witnessed anyone play like he does.
Great guy !

Good tips indeed..especially what cereal he eats lol
Great drummer and funny guy!
Damn single foot double is beast.
I can so picture Pridgen in a commercial saying "Gotta Have my pops!" hahaha
@bfish420 you clearly haven't been to pasic before. the environment is really friendly, and the clinicians (in this case thomas pridgen) really get in tune with the crowd and ask for people to come up on stage for lessons etc.

no. they both have an DW endorsement, they both have the same kit.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH that cymbal stack
thomas for president!!!!!!
Damn that 1# flute beat thing is banana! supreme! Neeeed it!!!
He is the man!! Pumped I got to play with him in Nashville!
Ok, no footcam at 3:50, but what do you say? Does he play triplets or just doubles?
Thomas Pridgen looks coolest when he's playing ona blue set like that
Beast. Mode. 24/7.
Ok that's a coincidence I was just doin those exercises on the pedal for speed, even though I was struggling, he made that look so easy I have to do those exercises so slow lol, this dude, Tony royster, and Aaron spears are animals with footing and Dee Curry

Yeah definitely.
insane
What kind of cymbal is that? The fast one that he hits with his right arm. I know its a zildjian. Fast crash or fast china maybe?
beast
I like how he doesn't get phased when he makes a mistake in his playing.
3:50 so crazy 🔥 foot techniques
The way how he played the drums is like he's FLASH.
I happed up on dude while I was in college..he's been my secret weapon ever since! Sickly amazing and innovative. Keep eatin' cereal bruh so @EHansen can keep hatin'.
3:50 sounds like a fucken drum machine, man, thom, you are soo cool. keep it up bro
what's the name of this song? album also. Thanks.
@bfish420 Youre right Thomas is a great player AND a real human being
my question is this. at 4:40, what in the world is he looking at while playing?
ive gotten the speed down with one foot. now im really starting to work on the power
Anybody know the name of any of the tracks he plays here?
He is crazy
gotta have my pops.
LOVE THE CEREAL!!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!!! GONNA TRY IT... PRACTICE AND POPS!!!!!
3:50-4:00 cool footwork and they decide NOT to show the foot cam! smh
there is a drum cam? thats sick!
what song is he playing to? beginning and end?
At 1:22
@beatsandthings Dont know 4 sure--but given the fact that he studied from Dennis' videos, its a pretty good bet that he did
How do I get my snare to sound like his
@bddrumma17 He's using a stack . Im not sure which two cymbals he uses to make up the stack, but check out his set-up. They should have it there.
Peace,
The Drum Commentator
what does he say about using only ONE grip ?
what song was playing at the beginning?
When the video opens and closes what is he playing to?
His old band Zenith Patrol. Check it out, some of his best work I reckon.
@dannyss29 I think he says "Omar from Mars Volta"... talking about Omar Rodriguez Lopez
didnt he start with french grip not german?
Miss Jon Theodore but Love Thomas Pridgen
lol @ 5:00
Appropriate question after he said he practiced while eating cereal.
1:44 French grip is thumbs to the sky homie
anybody know what song he's playing to at the end?
he shoulda stayed with the mars volta, but now they have a super-bad ass named Deantoni. bringing back the musicality and finesse= cohesive power. still, gotta give it up to the raw chops of Pridgen, rock never seen a man drum like this man before.
Killer!
5:00 Hella funny. LOL.
For the record, thumbs up is considered French Grip and Palms down is German Grip. The more modern hybrid where the hand is at an angle is called American Grip. They are all variations of Matched Grip.
Glad to see PASIC is ok with incorrect teaching information.
anyone noticed the performance series?
@Speirszitu he plays for the mars Volta
@beatsandthings I bet he has done that, he'd bang on anything, haha but he plays with so much wrist and finger motion, and the point of playing on a pillow is to build that up on a surface with NO rebound, so that you can work LESS when you get on a drum or cymbal and play twice as full with half the effort, cuz the stick does all the work... so in short if you want to sound like him play tons of rolls and flam accents on pillows, it worked for me, anyway
Need that Firsts Track Name! Of da Chain!!
“I’m only 19 but my mind is older”
@bddrumma17 All I know is that its a china mounted on top of a crash or splash.
you mean " Like, gotta have my um pops!".
You can really hear his immaturity here(nothing wrong with that since he is young here). I wonder how he will sound beyond his 30's.
well gee I SURE WISH we coulda seen his foot at 3:50
That's what I'm saying, he can do more on a single pedal and make it sound better than people on double bass.
@cheeseman59 THE TASTE YOU CAN SEE!!!! LOL
@DavidChoiDrumz yeah man.... it´s so frustrating.......:@
Practice is what he's saying. Asking and learning technique correctly from a more experienced drummer he also made a reference about that answering the how u get that fast question. Woodshed tho like a M****F**ker too. I know this dude stayed on a kit, when he was younger, and prolly still does.
I'm gonna start eating those cereals! Thats for shure!
