    Regulator
    The voltage regulator controls the amount of power distributed from the alternator to the battery in order to control the charging process. Regulators are designed with different functions and work depending on their specification.
    Rectifier
    The rectifier is used to convert current from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) during the charging process.
    Rotor
    The rotor is the spinning mass inside the alternator that rotates via the pulley and drive belt system. The rotor acts as a spinning electromagnet.
    Slip Rings
    The Slip rings are used as a means of providing direct current and power to the rotor.
    Slip Ring End Bearing
    The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
    Stator
    The stator consists of several coils of wire wound through an iron ring. The stator sits outside the rotor, when a magnetic field is created the electrical current is made.
    Drive End Bearing
    The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
    Pulley
    The pulley is connected to the rotor shaft and the drive belt system. Rotation created by the engine the drive belt system turns the pulley beginning the charging process.
    Armature
    The armature is an electromagnet, mounted on the drive shaft and bearings for support. It is a laminated soft iron core which is wrapped with numerous conductors loops or windings.
    Brushes
    The brushes run on a section of the commutator at the rear of the housing, making contact with the contacts of the commutator and conducting electricity.
    Solenoid
    The solenoid contains of two coils of wire that are wrapped around a moveable core. The solenoid acts as a switch to close the electrical connection and connects the starter motor to the vehicle's battery.
    Plunger
    The plunger works by using the connected vehicle battery and the solenoid to push the plunger forward, which engages the pinion.
    Lever Fork
    The lever fork is connected to the plunger so when the plunger is pushed forwards, so is the lever fork. This process then activates the pinion.
    Pinion
    The pinion is a unique combination of a gear and springs. Once the starter is engaged the gear is extended into the gearbox housing and is engaged with the flywheel. This spins the engine to begin the combustion process.
    Field Coils
    The housing holds the starter fields in the housing with screws. This can consist of two to four field coils connected in series. Energised by the battery this converts the coils into an electromagnet which then turns the armature. When the armature coils are powered a magnetic field is created around the armature.

    Excellent work, what kind of epoxy did you use, JB Weld? Can it be assembled without it? Why cut brushes in the lathe?

    Thanks for your effort a great teardown. If a load was applied to this for a long time (eg an hour) could it continue to produce 140ah or does the regulator start to limit current due to heat?

    My car battery voltage does down to 12.8V when the AC and lights are turned on. When i turn off the AC... it goes to 13.5V. Is this a sign of a bad alternator?

    It looks like you are an expert repairing alternators, I have a few questions about alternators.. I need a high output alternator, toons of amps like 300 amps +.. and 15 volts how can you get that out of an alternator?

      Only to buy another alternator! and other components. look under this number on google 8600628 and 11075N-300A you can visit the page as-pl and see exactly what you need!

      @@Seboja thank you for taking the time to reply to me, I do really appreciate it but, I tell you my story I brought an alternator from eBay, and supposed to be 250 amps and I don't think it's 250 it looks exactly the same as the original so, I feel I got scammed..,, internally are different?? And I saw a different companies making those high output alternators and it looks bigger and stronger.. so I'm confused,, so that one you send me 11075 it's 100% high output alternator?? Thanks again

      @@ricardojuarez291 See this alternator he is exactly 320 amp 8600634 there are also smaller alternators of 250amp from Mercedes but they have computer communication

      @@Seboja Thank you I been doing a lot of research and I found couple companies here in USA, mechman alternator, stinger alternators and some others... They are expensive but I need one of those to run a 8 k watts sound system.. thanks for your help you earn a sub.. I'll make sure leave likes and comments.. keep up the good work..

    Very nice job man you are a pro.
    I just wanet to know the kind of spray you applied to bearing before pulling it out and second the material you applied with with brush before soldering the two brushes wires in their holes.

      Spray is wd-40 penetration oil. Not sure about material he applied with brush, some sort of soldering flux

      Hello, thanks for pointing out the sim problem, I know that I have a problem, I am recording with my mobile phone, I hope that in the future there will be better recordings. I wash the parts with engine cleaner (K2 AKRA)

    I just my skoda Octavia mk1 1.9 tdi alternator repaired. Two coils got shorted.
    Now working fine. But is repair successful in long term?

      Was your stator shorted? burnt coils or what?

      @@Seboja yes, startor motor was burnt and ignition switch was also not returning. So first starter and ignition switch was replaced then battery then repaired alternator.

      He may turn the new slip ring assembly in the lathe to make SURE that it is absolutely concentric with the shaft! Otherwise the brushes will “hop” at high rpm’s -- poor contact will affect output and cause unnecessary arcing on the slip rings which is BAD!!!! IMHO.

      BTW, This is a great example of mfgrs now making us NOT be able to repair our own alternators. -- thin copper slip rings and all potted in epoxy. I have no idea where he was able to get new slip ring assembly…. Don’t know how he can make any money doing all this work, which I highly commend him for doing!!! RIGHT TO REPAIR!!!
