It's Great to watch you fix stuff!! Normal people see parts everywhere and the engine tore down and think it will never run again. Just keep watching!!! My favorite part is when you start engines that you did an overhaul on and they fire right up!! The grader sounded just tight and healthy!! That's the moment that all your work shines the brightest!! Apex makes the highest quality impact tools. How much for the socket for the head bolts??? About $75.00?? Worth every penny!!

Em working on that big equipment is a whole different world than what folks see at their local auto/truck dealership. Quite an investment in expensive, massive tools.

Great video Warren. Sure learned a lot--I'll bet Trent is learning a lot too! I liked what you said about the people who always have out do you on temps! "Always have to pull their pecker out to out-do you!" 2 degrees is cold--no matter where you're from, especially if you're working in it! Keep up the the great work!!

you are a very strong man with all the work you do. I grew up on the farm in Minnesota and went in the navy in 1964. in basic training we did some strength comparisons and the only guy who was stronger than me was a cowboy from Montana. people who work hard do not need a gym. you are amazing with the professional way you do things. Hi you are a good teacher explaining everything you do . They should bring apprentice screens back . You’ll be so good at teaching on the engines and other equipment . I’m dyslexic read and writing put head on . Buy watching you for understanding what are you what you do I can pick it up. . This why you’re really really good at explaining everything . .. in this world we’re all good at something not in others things . Thank you for doing this TH-cam channel .

Just a tip for the future. When torqueing the valve rockers, always make sure the shaft is sitting on the head with all the levers loose and all of the bolts loose. Start tightening the front rocker shaft bolt first(the one with the flat spot on the shaft). This will set the Jake lever running clearance. I have never had to mess with Jake running clearance if I followed that procedure.

Warren .... cold weather is cold, no matter where you are, My experience with extreme cold was "operation deep freeze" with VX-6 while I was in the Navy. I was an Aviation Machinist Mate, and worked on, and flew as crew, on helicopters. At the time, we had the old Sikorsky H=34's (S-58) with the 9 cylinder radial engine mounted in the nose. Normally, the machine wasn't a problem to work on..... however.... a cylinder change at 25 below zero, could get interesting. We developed a system real quick.... a parachute to drape over the work area, and a Herman-nelson pre-heater outside the parachute to duct warm air in. At 25 below outside, 75 above inside with your parka and shirt off, was decent to work in. The duty was probably the highlight of my20 year Navy career. I eventually made 7 trips to the Antarctic, with the Navy over 2 different tours of duty. I loved it.

I worked for a truckin Company for 10 years and I gave it up because I was going to have to go back to School to learn the New engines and all the Computer and DEF System JUNK...And I went back to my First Love which is Operating Heavy Equipment...Ive been away from it for almost 20 years and I still have Truck drivers from the Company wanting me back... Im torn between what to do. I watch you and you make it look easy. But I know its Not even close too Easy....Great Job Sir. Great Video. I cant wait to hear that Girl Fire back up...

Good procedure on lubing the head bolts , many people dont understand how important it is that the bolt threads and bolt hole threads are clean and turn freely by hand all the way up on anything being torqued , hard turning bolts will not torque correctly . When I clean aluminum bolt holes , I file a V in the side of a bolt and use it to clean the bolt hole threads instead of a tap first , then try a cleaned bolt in the hole , a tap many times removes a little aluminum , on something that is serviced ever so often that can be important , unless you like buying parts because of stripped out bolt holes ....

Hello Warren. Happy New year. We use a open mast forklift for lifting engines and the like. The only thing is it takes two people and a lot of shouting over the noise of the forklift engine. Sometimes we use the chain blocks. We are in temperey premises at the moment. We are waiting for the go ahead of our new building. So we will have a electronic over head crain so it will be a lot better and not having to shout.

I recently moved my shop to the high desert of Southern California and I knew that it got colder here compared to where I was previously located by about 10 to 15 degrees and I was not prepared for the difference. It is currently 28 degrees inside my shop and the water in my plasma table is frozen currently, I never even thought about it freezing before and it is not going to hurt anything since it is wide open. I am even having issues with parts with tight tolerances not wanting to fit correctly. I am currently finishing up a high performance 4L85E and just working with the cold parts sucks. The only heater I have in my shop is my aqueous parts washer, it has a 8000 watt heating element and when I am washing for a few straight hours it actually warms the shop up but I am having 15 gallons of water evaporate per day. I really need to look into getting a waste oil heater since I usually have 150 gallons of waste transmission fluid per month. I haven't checked into the legality or code requirements for a waste oil heater installation.

Theres a guy in Ireland here on YT who builds some very effective oil burners. What the thought police don't know wont hurt them. Besides, burning old oil is better than consigning to land fill.

@@Mercmad A couple of years ago I was getting paid 50-75 cent a gallon to have my waste oil hauled away and now I am paying to have it hauled away. There was some government program paying good money to bio diesel manufacturers not to mention carbon credits they would sell. I had people beating my door down for any waste oil I had by numerous companies and the moment those credits expired everything changed

can you share what that head job cost now on a ISX cummins? You saved me a lot of money by posting a video on youtube about the oil leaking out of the input shaft on a JD8410t that told how the rubber damper shrinks and lets the o ring on the trans breather not to seal!!The tractor is on my farm in Ukraine and I watched your video and added some o rings and the leak stopped!!The jd mechanic there said I needed a rebuild on the transmission but it was shifting fine. You are the best source of information about the real world of fixing things.Keep up the great content and thank you so much for great info

Great video Warren, lot's of good information given to us. We're reminded again how vast your knowledge and experience is of different kit. As a dinosaur retired vehicle engineer, I still fail to see the benefit of overcomplicated overhead camshaft diesels unless modern injection pressures preclude old style block mounted cams. Someone will no doubt tell me these are the comments of an idiot. Cheers from across the pond.

Thats odd! I just experienced same thing with my hemi last month. Had three cylinders showing misfires. Tried everything. My mechanic found out that one of the valve springs broke and caused the piston to smack a valve. Oddly enough that one valve spring/bent valve caaused three cylinders to misfire. And he said that it never skipped time. A new valve spring and valve and its running like new again.

I was prying on some parts on a trash truck years ago and got surprised when things slipped. I hit myself in the middle of the forehead with my middle knuckle. Didn't think too much happened other than the surprise of it all. That is until a moment later when this big blob of sweat and blood splashed on my glasses. Turns out my knuckle split my forehead wide open. Took a couple of minutes to stop the bleeding. No big deal until after I got home. I was sitting in my recliner when my wife got home. She noticed the mark on my forehead from across the room. She says "what happened" I calmly replied, "bullet hole" to which she about fainted. I relayed a play-by-play of the workday after which she calmed down. The irony of the story was we had prepared to weld in some wear patch panels in the truck. As we cleaned out debris from the worn area we find some live ammo. Not exactly what you want to find lodged in wear gaps on a trash truck. That was how the bullet hole joke reply came into existence. So I can relate to getting hit while working on something.

Man I hope you have an "I worked on it first , can you fix it" pricing structure. Been there , done that and I DO NOT envy you having that job to have to contend with. Part of the requirements for new hire engineers for car truck etc. , should be to have to spend time working on someone elses creations so they can see what NOT to do. Oh and in case you don't know some makers say to not oil some bolts like head bolts. It is a torque thing.
