Two years after being received into the Church, he was blessed by St. John of Shanghai to establish a press with an archaic hand-cranked printing press, and line-by-line composed thousands of lines of *English material* for inquirers into Orthodoxy which up until that point had been mostly neglected by the Russian and Greek-speaking diaspora on American soil. He established a monastery, with *no electricity* in the wilderness of California (Platina), hauled the printing press up a gigantic mountain with an old truck that barely worked, spent countless hours reading and writing in the spirit of the Holy Fathers and completely absorbed their teaching and imparted it flawlessly, in the spirit of the Church to the English-speaking world. He built and maintained a monastery with no electricity and formed a brotherhood of monks while he spent every waking second absorbed in some writing, translating, or printing project or another all whilst teaching catechism to American students who were interested in Orthodoxy... 17 years at his monastery living a life of repentance and servitude in the wilderness was all the Lord required of him before he went home.

Everything in this life passes away - only God remains, only He is worth struggling towards. We have a choice: to follow the way of this world, of the society that surrounds us, and thereby find ourselves outside of God; or to choose the way of life, to choose God Who calls us and for Whom our heart is searching. - Fr. You make some of the greatest orthodox videos on TH-cam. The edits keep me so intrigued in a conversation I already enjoy. I’ll say 6 months ago when I stumbled onto your channel, it pushed me into the Orthodox Church. I’m now a catechumen with Saint seraphim of sarov as my patron. Don’t ever stop.
You're even playing Ich Habe Genug in the background, Fr. Seraphim's favorite opera! You all are truly brilliant artists at Harmony! Thank you for this extreme blessing!
This is an excerpt of a longer article in which the Elders tell us why they don’t fear the Antichrist nor the apocalypse: One day Elder Porphyrios had told me: “Father Athanasios (taking me by the hand tightly), I’m blind now, my eyes do not work physically because I have cancer of the pituitary gland, but I have spiritual eyes and see. Before you leave, I want you to tell me, what did Elder Aemilianos say about 666 and the Antichrist?” This was in the days of Chernobyl. People were upset by this and went by the dozens every day, particularly to Elder Porphyrios near Athens, asking: “What will happen? Will the Antichrist come and stamp us with 666″? The Elder asked me: “Tell me, my child, what did Elder Aemilianos say about 666 and the Antichrist?” I told him: “He told us in a gathering a few days ago to not worry. We should be interested in having a vibrant relationship with Christ and not give much attention to the Antichrist, because then he will become the center of our lives and not Christ.” . . . He told me: “For us Christians, when we experience Christ there is no Antichrist. . . . When we have Christ inside us, can the Antichrist come? Can anything opposite this enter our souls? For this reason, my child, today we do not have Christ within us and because of this we worry about the Antichrist. When Christ is within us, everything becomes Paradise. Christ is everything, my child, and the Opposer we should not fear; this you should always tell people. . . . And you should tell the people to not fear the Antichrist. We are children of Christ, we are children of the Church.”
The realm is still feminized and post modern. It didn’t matter who would win. Most men will still be gelded and effeminate. The core ethos of society is all of the “isms.”
Fr. seraphim rose had such a long impact in my life without knowing him too well early on. I have the many orthodox Christian’s to thank who were part of the perennialist/traditionalists groups for planting those seeds in my heart. Thank you for this video, brought me many tears of pain and joy ❤
Seraphim Rose is one of the most important figures in the development of my Orthodoxy. My journey towards it was similar to his and Orthodox Survival Course, Nihilism and Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future are amazing and I recommend them to any inquirer. Right now I’m during my catechumenate and I can’t wait until being fully admittes to the church.
Wow, this is one of the first youtube styled documentaries that I actually sit down, begin watching and finish watching without feeling that my time has been robbed. You've earned a subscriber, great job.
4:40 to 5:50, is something I could relate to an extent. Coming from an Evangelical church with still feeling out of place and my soul almost feeling despair, I came and walked into the parish on a rainy day at Orthros, not knowing the structure of the Liturgy, but only coming to the faith to find truth and that my soul may finally find the nurturing it desperately needed. It felt like coming back home, despite it being my first time in there. Fast forward, I'll be Chrismated in the first Sunday of February, marking my first year within the Church. ☦
Similar with me in the beginning. I'm still wrestling with my secular life, fell back into a certain passion and it's hard to get out of. Pray for me please, and congratulations on your Chrismation.
Christ is either all we need or he is nothing at all. He is our home. Seeking peace in religion is the devils trick. You are free in Christ. Today is the day and now is the time.
@Rileyed agreed, as the disciple of the Apostle John has said, "“Wherever the bishop appears, there let the people be; as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." To be able to get closer to Christ is to be within the Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church that he bestowed the Apostles to set up for the ages to come.
One of the first 5 books I read in Catechism was Saint Seraphim of Sarov. Awesome book , especially the back half where it is a letter he wrote. RIP Seraphim Rose 🌹 Living Eternally
I was binge watching videos on father Seraphim Rose today. Glory be to God, i have been called to Orthodoxy for a while now, and i'm pretty sure this video coming out now is no coincidence.
Father seraphim rose, the saint whos not yet been cannonized as a saint, the one man different from all. Truly he was a profound thinker and had a deeper understanding of what it means to not only be an orthodox christian, but how to love christ in its fullest compacity. He rejected modernity and ecumenism, Blessed seraphim rose, pray for america, pray for the world, pray for us sinners.
As a Pentecostal Christian, videos like these help me explore the humble and spiritual aspects of my faith. The emphasis of the necessity to suffer in Christ is essential for those who are true adherents to the faith, and I am glad that the message shown here is actually being taught in my church (a church my family founded), who seeks to do only the will of the Father and live by what our Lord Jesus taught us to do. God bless my Orthodox brothers and sisters, and to all Christians no matter the denomination, for we all are united in Christ.
The body of Christ cannot be separated. Unfortunately many Christian’s belong to the body that they are a part of. And most only exist as a body Rome. The Orthodox Church is the church of the first 1000 years. As an Orthodox Christian Man, it’s not a loving act for me to say all is well and that all churches and religions are the same. I beseech you to consider joining the orthodox church. I can personally attest that there is full grace to be found in the Orthodox Church. God bless you on your journey.
"I myself can accept the experience of Protestants being ‘born-again’ in Christ; I have met people who have changed their lives entirely through meeting Christ, and I cannot deny their experience just because they are not Orthodox. I call these people “subjective” or “beginning” Christians. But until they are united to the Orthodox Church they cannot have the fullness of Christianity, they cannot be objectively Christian as belonging to the Body of Christ and receiving the grace of the sacraments. I think this is why there are so many sects among them-they begin the Christian life with a genuine conversion to Christ, but they cannot continue the Christian life in the right way until they are united to the Orthodox Church, and they therefore substitute their own opinions and subjective experiences for the Church’s teaching and sacraments." - Bl. Fr. Seraphim Rose I would recommend his book "Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future" I think it will do you well.
To all who commented, I respect your opinions and appreciate your commentary on our Christian faith. We are all part of a church, that which is founded by Christ. It is not a building, or organization, or denomination, that makes a church but a common unity in Jesus, who we all agree came to the world as the Son of God, the Word, God incarnate, and loved us so much that he died on the cross and took away our sin so that through him, we can finally exist in union with God. Suffering and death will exist, and many people will use our religion as an excuse to harm others or use it as justification for others actions, snd I know their are debates between theology and what is the right way to worship, but the only thing that matters is that we seek Jesus, to preach and live like him, and to acknowledge that we are imperfect in every way yet he makes us perfect through him. I hope this does not spark any confusion or anger towards anyone and God bless you all.
Listening to all the commentary, I have come to realize something about the church. Yes, I respect the Catholic and Orthodox churches and find good theology and history in them, but here is the thing: No matter what happens, we still believe in Christ. There is a church doctrine that yes, should have protocols and other important sacraments like Baptisms and Communion (which Jesus asks us to do), but nothing triumphs the authority of God’s word, that is the Bible. We put too much emphasis on what church has better worship, tor what way should we see prayer is different, or that my church is the true church or other stuff, I’ve seen it everywhere and many argue about it. It is the reason for many division and hatred towards each other. I appreciate and will study Church history and theology more thouroughly, but, I stand behind what I believe in and truely believe that their is authority in both the Bible and church, but we always must put God’s word before all, that is the truth. At the end of the day, even if you disagree on my comments, or say that I am in the wrong denomination and that I should be Orthodox or Catholic, we all are part of a church that seeks to bring people into the Kingdom and we will all be judged when our Lord returns, then we will know what is the truth, not by what a church says but what God says

Oh Lord that was what my sweet brother John said in the very brief note he left before he shot and killed himself only a couple of months ago. “I’m sorry, I’ve had enough.” My mother gave him to me for my birthday the year I turned three, in 1951. It has devastated me. John wasn’t made for the world as mean as it has become.
Feeling that you don't belong to the modern world and culture, that's a very real thing. I have always suffered from that, whatever you want to call it, and so did my father. I just have this constant feeling that I don't belong here, these are not my values, not my culture, not my environment. It really starts to impact your life. Like I have just waited my whole life to wake up from this bad dream and I can never quite successfully convince myself that this is it, this is all I will ever have to work with. It's not going to be over until it is over.
That was beautiful, thank you. I recently visited Saint Anthony's Monastery in Florence, AZ. The paritioners, icons, and vespers were all Greek. As a catechumin, I likely wouldn't have felt the calling towards Orthodoxy if that was my first experience- as culture and language play a big role. I probably would have gone back to the Lutheran church, who knows. The monastery I go to in New England and the Orthodox content I watch here make it accessible and relatable, steering me towards a more wholesome and Christ-centered life. I love your format and good works❤
@5:20. It was at an Orthodox funeral that I had the same experince Fr. Seraphim had. In fact, the man whose funeral I discovered Christ in was a man who was one of Fr Seraphim Rose's spiritual sons - my spiritual father, Fr. Seraphim Cardoza. Memory eternal. Father Seraphim Rose, pray for us.

Very strange - I am both new and old to Orthodoxy. Spoke to an Orthodox training for the Priesthood in Greece for the first time in the early 1990s when correspondence by e-mail was a new thing. And here I am in 2024, just becoming a catechumen. I was introduced to the name Fr Seraphim Rose rather early into my own research into Orthodoxy, but I did not know his life story. I came away from this short video in tears - he and I have so much in common, though generations apart. From the feeling of having been born in the wrong time - even told that I was born in the wrong place by some who got to know me as a teen. Being born into a Mormon family. serving a Mormon mission and looking for meaning and coming to the very first movement to the truth in what I learned there - even learning that a way of life you are born into is wrong is the start of a journey. As so many on that path often do, you start to search and I went everywhere - from vising Islamic and Jewish services to every form of Christianity I could find, even the Unitarians and the LGBT-based protestant denominations out of California. But it was all empty in one way or another. I became an agnostic atheist... on and on. It is like his life story or rather mine is just a play on words of his. Right down to the moment last year when I walked into an Orthodox Church in Kansas after not having darkened any door of any church of any kind for 11 years and I literally thought the very same sentence, "I have come home." Work has taken me about as far as possible from Kansas in that year. Visiting an Orthodox priest here is most difficult. That priest is most kind with me, allowing me to visit for Divine Liturgy and to speak as circumstance allows and to move at the pace that allows - which tends to be even slower than most Orthodox. Hours journey one way when my work is not kind to such long trips. So, I do not know what the future holds. I just hope that I can remain on earth long enough that the spot at Our Lord's table that was meant for me, I might be able to finally take and that for someone who has done so much to offend but tried so hard to not - that there might be one last bit of mercy for me when the time comes.
I’ve had many Mormon friends and relatives, lived in Utah for many years as a Roman Catholic, (now Orthodox). I have read “The God Makers” as well as other LDS criticisms. I can empathize very strongly with your pain. The evils to arise out of the infamous “Burned Over District” in the 1820s are a sad reflection on the USA’s lack any religious anchoring.
@eldermillennial8330 Must have been rather odd being non-LDS living in the culture of the Wasatch front. A lot of ingredients went into the climate of the Second Great Awakening that the LDS belief sprang from. Add to that more common folk beliefs that were well known to those living in the place and period but to us today seem downright strange and you start to see how Smith developed his teachings. Be that as it may, just a warning about Messers Decker and Hunt's work. It is sensational in the extreme. So much so that when one actually sees LDS beliefs from their own sources, it can move people closer to LDS thinking than away. Those two would offer much the same criticisms of Roman Catholicism and the Eastern Church. Going with the more well known Evangelicals critics, the work of the Tanners is more balanced but still have some of those flaws. (You can't understand them without understanding the Hoffman documents scandal and the bombings it led to) Was always of the opinion myself that their thinking would either rise or fall based on what they teach from their sources rather than Evangelical statements about them. (For instance, reading Madsen's LDS criticisms of the Council of Chalcedon and the nature of Christ is much more helpful for a typical Roman or Eastern rite believer to see errors in LDS thought than reading anything from the protestants about them. Same with LDS beliefs being fundamentally Arian in nature in reading their criticisms and rejection of the Council of Nicaea. I suspect their beliefs are too Arian even for Arius himself if there were ever a way to share them with him. The fact that the LDS would say that the Church was apostate and fallen even by the time of St. Justin Martyr and the end of the life of St. John the Theologian is enough for most without going into the weeds. ) Sorry to go off tangentially, I just always offer that caution when I see people speak of that particular work, as it personally just made me cling to LDS belief harder when I read it and saw how actual beliefs were twisted by them just to fit into the world of 1970s protestant fundamentalism that came from Hal Lindsey and his popular works in those religions that he made millions from.
Once you realize The Truth is Christ, you discover that you are truly powerless, and you can do nothing to open another's eyes. It is truly only with faith of heart that we can know Him, The Truth, The Eternal Light. For even when The Truth walked amongst men, most still denied Him. If you will listen to me, then you don't need to, because you are ready to find The Truth.
Me too. I met Fr Rose @ St Herman of Alaska Orthodox Monastery. His hut naked of material possessions, comforts, or conveniences. His typewriter has missing or aged keys. He sat in silence for hours. He ate very little, fasting often for days on end. If you’ve ever the opportunity or calling, plan a vacation & pray over his coffin. I swear he’s listening. Last visited St Hermon 2015. All Fr Rose’s books may be ordered via St Herman Press.

This is an amazing video. I didn't know Father (Saint) Serphaim Rose studied secular philosophies like Nietzsche and Alan Watts. It suprised me and this only grows me closer to Orthodoxy. We have a choice: to follow the way of this world, of the society that surrounds us, and thereby find ourselves outside of God; or to choose the way of life, to choose God Who calls us and for Whom our heart is searching. - Fr. Уважаемые авторы! Мне очень нравится то что вы делаете: подача материала это буквально эталон медиа презентаций (исходя из курса по Рекламе и Связей с общественностью).
So fitting.. Seraphim also has had enough..
This is an excerpt of a longer article in which the Elders tell us why they don’t fear the Antichrist nor the apocalypse:
One day Elder Porphyrios had told me:
“Father Athanasios (taking me by the hand tightly), I’m blind now, my eyes do not work physically because I have cancer of the pituitary gland, but I have spiritual eyes and see. Before you leave, I want you to tell me, what did Elder Aemilianos say about 666 and the Antichrist?”
This was in the days of Chernobyl. People were upset by this and went by the dozens every day, particularly to Elder Porphyrios near Athens, asking: “What will happen? Will the Antichrist come and stamp us with 666″?
The Elder asked me: “Tell me, my child, what did Elder Aemilianos say about 666 and the Antichrist?”
I told him: “He told us in a gathering a few days ago to not worry. We should be interested in having a vibrant relationship with Christ and not give much attention to the Antichrist, because then he will become the center of our lives and not Christ.”
This was much needed after the US election. Seek first the Kingdom of God!!! God Bless you.
I fell down a rabbit hole of leftist seething and it’s distracted me from remembrance of God.
I am struggling with thoughts myself on this dreadful day. We love Father Seraphim at my little church. Please dear Father, help me!

Fr. seraphim rose had such a long impact in my life without knowing him too well early on.
You've earned a subscriber, great job.

this channel has brought my so much peace, whoever is running it, truly thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Through all these videos, I feel blessed that I was born a Greek Orthodox Christian. Χριστός Ανέστη, δόξα τω Κυρίω εις τους αιώνας των αιώνων, αμήν.
this is about the man in my pfp
☦
4:40 to 5:50, is something I could relate to an extent. Coming from an Evangelical church with still feeling out of place and my soul almost feeling despair, I came and walked into the parish on a rainy day at Orthros, not knowing the structure of the Liturgy, but only coming to the faith to find truth and that my soul may finally find the nurturing it desperately needed. It felt like coming back home, despite it being my first time in there. Fast forward, I'll be Chrismated in the first Sunday of February, marking my first year within the Church. ☦
MAY GOD BLESS YOU
Similar with me in the beginning. I'm still wrestling with my secular life, fell back into a certain passion and it's hard to get out of. Pray for me please, and congratulations on your Chrismation.
@ez_ekiel as am I, and when I fall, i get back up, and focus on the goal. Seeking communion with Christ.
This channel is beautiful! From a Romanian fellow Orthodox sister, it makes me so happy to see faith flourish in the States!
He is a Saint.
There is no question in my mind. There is an Icon of him at my new Parish alongside St. John of San Francisco
The church will 100% canonize him. He's had a massive impact on the current generation I wouldn't be surprised if he's canonized very soon
Only Jesus can save you not any worldy saints.
@Jaiden_Anime_Shuns you don't know what your talking about, saints can't be worldly also that makes no sense true Christians aren't worldly.
@IsaiahBoyd-j4s Exactly and what's more worldy than worshipping a human? Saints cannot give salvation only Jesus
This video is incredible. Thank you for your hard work.
My friend, we cannot be united since we do not believe in the same Christ.
I think this is why there are so many sects among them-they begin the Christian life with a genuine conversion to Christ, but they cannot continue the Christian life in the right way until they are united to the Orthodox Church, and they therefore substitute their own opinions and subjective experiences for the Church’s teaching and sacraments."
- Bl. Fr. Seraphim Rose
I would recommend his book "Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future" I think it will do you well.

Right down to the moment last year when I walked into an Orthodox Church in Kansas after not having darkened any door of any church of any kind for 11 years and I literally thought the very same sentence, "I have come home."
Work has taken me about as far as possible from Kansas in that year.
(You can't understand them without understanding the Hoffman documents scandal and the bombings it led to)
Was always of the opinion myself that their thinking would either rise or fall based on what they teach from their sources rather than Evangelical statements about them. John the Theologian is enough for most without going into the weeds. )
Sorry to go off tangentially, I just always offer that caution when I see people speak of that particular work, as it personally just made me cling to LDS belief harder when I read it and saw how actual beliefs were twisted by them just to fit into the world of 1970s protestant fundamentalism that came from Hal Lindsey and his popular works in those religions that he made millions from.
