Every time I read or listen to Fr. Seraphim, I can only wonder what he might have said concerning our current times. I feel the same when I read St. John of Kronstadt and he cautions against distractions. The same goes for all the Fathers and Mothers of the Church; compared to our modern days of instant communication, distraction and gratification, and the omnipresence of it, they had no idea! In other words, they thought things were bad then, imagine how damned they thought we'd all be if they could speak to us now! God help us!
Father, I ask for your blessing. I have Fr. Seraphim Rose and St. John of Kronstadt's books on my nightstand next to my bed. I suspect that Blessed Fr. Seraphim Rose (and St. John of Kronstadt no less) would be somewhat distraught by the fact that we (particularly those of us in the west) have willingly subjected our minds and hearts to the distractions of social media, entertainment, internet, 24-hour news cycles, texting and all sorts of manufactured crises and ideas that come out of our cultures. And how all these serve to to hinder our ability to think critically and clearly about what really matters. Further, excessive attention to all these hinders our ability to genuinely worship, love, and serve the Holy Trinity. In the face of unparalleled opportunity to learn more about our Lord through the Orthodox Faith, we squander it for "likes" on Facebook or Instagram or the latest series on TV. Back in 1985, a non-religious author named Neil Postman warned about this in his book, "Amusing Ourselves to Death". May Blessed Fr. Seraphim Rose and St. John of Kronstadt both pray for us. We cannot change ourselves although we fight everyday. How comes we want to change others? We want to help them, of course, but God knows our hearts. Do not try to change people if God let us free. My heart is crying for those who do not fight the good fight, for those indulging themselves in darkness but i cannot do anything, just praying, for only God knows if there is salvation for their souls. Jesus Great Love exceeds my limited powers and views. Eternal Glory to our Lord, Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Son of God! 🙏
If you try to help someone as you know they are turning in the wrong direction, in this day, they will block you or leave you and they feel you are toxic. They will not listen anyway and they need prayers many times and that is all one can do you are right. People are taught if anyone disagrees with you or your "choices: they are toxic" and not to be bothered about. So only the Lord could set them straight. Only the Lord can help them. but yet they must be willing to turn from the sins once they see they have gone in the wrong direction. We must try, but not in a way that sounds too strong as many cannot handle anyone knowing something they may not be doing right. Not easy, but must just point it out with an example of your own faults perhaps? Showing you know from making mistakes too Sad but true, how we can't be "direct" in our approach if they are family or someone we may want around us in any way at all. Sometimes we must only pray and leave it to the Lord.
Better to indulge and get something on this earth and go to hell than try to love God and get nothing on this earth and go hell. Heaven is apparently an option for those who love God every time I tried and trusted my life just got worse and he continually lets other people rape me in multiple ways like financially sexually physically mentally emotionally
Walking the walk upsets the lost. Facing martyrdom just comes with the territory & when you wage war on Satan's kingdom, the attacks increase. This man is good, and his information lines up, but meek Christians have their place. We all have our callings. He's a good teacher. God bless!

At all times, people have believed to predict the destruction of the world. Yet, the world has gone underneath each and every one of us when our trip has come. What happens when we die there are also many who think to know what will happen, but I personally think that we will be accounted for how we have lived our lives. If this is a right resource, I can not know but still choose to believe it, because this philosophy I think is for the benefit of ourselves and our fellow human beings.
@Bert Clayton I don't know if I'll make it because of my wicked past, but I love God and I'm trying to love people more. The world is more wicked then ever, and almost nothing is pure in these days. It doesn't really matter when the world ends as everyone worlds end when they die. What matters is where you stand with God when you die. I have to come back and say, If Choki Motobu was such a solid figure and so well skilled, he may have trained to evade take downs, as well as establish his base, where with fists conditioned by makiwara, not to mention his elbows and body by dancing, where I think I saw it said he was called Monkey Man because of climbing around the roofs of houses or something like that. All that, with base established, he may have been able to deliver some punishment. Anyone have any more information? I forgot to finish, with a life time of karate training, he still died. Where self defense is good, but devotion to preventing harm and death still does not stop death. Living right with others is part of the course for everlasting life.
Thank you so much for posting this important lecture by Father Seraphim Rose. Do you know the history of when and where this talk was given? Thanks and God Bless you!
He says that Solzhenitsyn gave his talk at Harvard "two or three years ago." That famous commencement address happened in 1978, so this must be roughly 1981.
The falling away from Christ and God, a falling away from our faith, and following Satan instead, has caused the downfall of humanity. All from the garden of Eden. We are indeed in the end of times.

It is really cool to hear that sober take because so many people think america is the special boy at the end of the world which is a very drunk eschatology. My problem with Amillennialism.. the description that during that reign, if a man died under 100 years old, it would be as if a child had died.. pointing back to the antediluvian times where people lived 700+ years, and that restoring of the earth.. If the millennial reign is to just be a metaphor (which I agree is a beautiful one), would you say these additional descriptions have meaning in your metaphor, or are they abnormally specific vestigial details. In either case, I am satisfied in my God, and like David, I will not be fully satisfied until I awake in His likeness.
I am dead inside. I love noone, nor myself. I believe in nothing, yet I have a fear in me because of that. I am a sinner like no other. adultery, sexual perversion, lies, racism etc. are a part of me and feel like dirt impossible to wash off. I sometimes watch these kind of videos in hopes to learn something or to find some explanation for my questions, but so far nothing clicked in me. I have a contempt for God, I have a contempt for the devil, even though I don´t believe in none of them. Every day I live is a monotonous hell, and the world around me and the people seem to make me feel worse. Father Seraphim Rose had something in his life I don´t. He bouth a pice of land in the Californian wildernes and lived alone in peace. I wish I could do the same. Why am I typing this? I have no idea. If there is a God, I believe I have sinned so much and transgressed so much against him that he couldn´t possibly forgive me any of it.
What you just described is exactly how I feel most of the time as well.. and I’m a christian! I wrestle with my faith quite often and some times wish I was atheist so I could become more worldly and happy as a result. Believe me, I’ve sinned as much as you- WHILE being a so-called christian.. that’s even worse. If he forgives me he can forgive you too. Only thing separating us is what we believe.
It's a terrible shame that such a ridiculously huge amount of the subtitles are so incredibly flawed...it makes me seriously consider whether it was intentional.
Note - If you are dependent on subtitles, they are completely off on this video....do not believe what you read. One of the many examples....at 2:45 he says "...protestant....", & it is subtitled as "....product like Terry..." It is completely riddled with similar & worse errors throughout. If you are deaf, please find someone to translate.

Blessed Father, you were so right.
Lord have Mercy.
God bless!

the 'Annihilators' of the past 2000 years of Christian Persecutors was and is as real today - we all need to consecrate ourselves to the church to survive out of the onslaught of such thinkers! - systems of belief - we are stronger now as humans surviving out of knowing what to do - Jesus confronted the 'apocalyptic' activities of his day, and for the same reason as his followers we all need to say 'no' - keep walking quietly away from such dynamics of abuse (physical, emotional, financial, narcissism) - knowing when to say no to such covert and overt dynamics - and to be away clear of their lead - leads that deter away from the truth - the only choice has always been life - God is Love - the 'Great Schism' in theory did succeed - Jesus

It would seem that this talk was given around 1977-79 as he speaks of Russia being 60 years into their 70 year experiment with communism.
God gave Russia 70 years for every member of Saint Nickolai's family - 10 years for Zcar, 10 - for his wife Alicks, and 10s for Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasiya and son -Alexei. 7 *10=70.
