I Just used this method to update from 2.7.1 to 2.10.4 on a radiomaster tx16s. My radio got to the end of writing firmware on locked up. Any suggestions?
Hi Shane. I had updated my radio as soon as I got it to the most recent v2.10.4 centurion. So my screens are a little different from some of yours on the older video versions. My question is when I uploaded all my planes (about 13) when I touch the “manage model” screen or button it takes several seconds for it to load. But any other touch screen function works immediately. It seems the more planes loaded under each group takes longer to load than if there were only 1 or 2 planes. Is that normal or is my radio having a problem.
That's pretty normal, more so if you have images associate with all the models as it has to load the photos and index the list. I'm not careful to keep my images small so mine also takes a little longer to load up.
@ ok that’s what I was hoping the issue was. Second question is when I try to go to a group of planes where it says “favorites” and then you can add your own categories, for instance I have “jets” and “war birds” so if the jets is checked and I touch the screen for war birds it will put a small “and” but it won’t switch to the category I picked. I have to touch the jets until the check goes away and then touch warbirds. Are you familiar with this issue?
@@flyjets305 It's a new feature allowing you to customize how the model search is conducted. You can change this by going into SYS -> RADIO SETUP -> MANAGE MODELS. Then of course in each model setup you need to assign whatever labels you want to each model. Hope that makes sense.
Is there a way to mute the voice alert when it says “telemetry lost/found”. I want to hear the other voice prompts I have set but don’t want to hear that one. I have separated the antennas to try and reduce that issue but still happens and most of my planes this only happens in a certain area of the airfield but other planes it happens all the time. Thanks and Happy thanksgiving
Sure, in the telemetry screen there is a checkbox for "Disable telemetry alarms". Just turn that on and it will not give you the telemetry lost callouts. Particularly useful with Spektrum receivers as they only have short range "fly-by" telemetry so even if you lower the alarm points to 1 and 1 you'll still get nuisance alarms often. Has nothing to do with control signal.
In your model setup if you set the Timer 1 Mode to "Throttle" the timer will only run when the throttle is above minimum. If you set the mode for "Throttle%" the timer will run only when the throttle is above minimum and will also run faster with more throttle. At 100% throttle the timer runs 1 second = 1 second. Lower throttle levels the timer runs slower since you are using battery at a slower rate. Throttle mode set to "Throttle Start" the timer will start as soon as you throttle above minimum but will not stop when you take the throttle back to minimum, it will keep counting down.
@@shanesdiy Firmware 2.10. The timer countdown does not start when the throttle stick is raised, assigned a switch to the throttle, it does not work, it is assigned to toggle switches, how can I make the countdown start when the throttle stick is raised?
I'm on 2.10 and it works, perhaps something you got setup incorrectly. I've been thinking King of doing a video on the different throttle timers, I'll try and schedule time soon for a video guide.
Question 2:i have the as3x moving in the ailerons in the incorrect direction , i guess the gyro reverse channel menu is used to adjust this, correct? I am using the new BOXER lua script for B&W TX created by Francisco Arzu, but when revising ailerons nothing changes, i am saving the changes. Is there anything else i need to do to send the new setting to the RX in addition to save the changes? I may be missing one step but i do not know what is it. My last option is factory reset and start from scratch. Any advise? Thanks
There are two different controls. If the ailerons are reversed when you move the transmitter sticks you need to invert the channel in the radio output page. If the safe mode is controlling the ailerons backwards that must be reversed in forward programming model setup.
@@shanesdiy ok ,sticks are moving correctly the aileron. The wind correction is the one that is not working: if shake one wing up the as3x aileron correction should move aileron up but it does not. If the gyro reverse menu is the one used to modify this then i am doing it correctly and the lua scrip has a bug. thanks again.!
@@alexherrera3918 You have to first go into the "Model Setup" menu -> Gyro Channel Reverse and reverse the direction of the aileron channel. Aileron will be "Port 2 (TX:Ch1) most likely (if your TX is setup as AETR) You can tell this from the mixer channel order. Once you reverse the channel there, you go into Forward programming -> Gyro settings -> System Setup -> Relearn Servo Settings. This will send the new channel direction to the receiver. By the way, if you can get it into safe mode with self leveling it is much easier to confirm if the control directions are correct. In AS3X you have to watch very closely for the slight movement.

If you want to update any firmware yes, I would create the folder and put the new bin files there. It doesn't use the folder under normal operation, just a place to keep the files during the update process. Also, the files in the firmware folder are what will show up when you start the radio in bootloader mode. Make sure the spelling is correct and, I'm not certain, but it may also be case sensitive so match it with what you see here.

Hey thanks for that. The last time I looked at companion when I plugged in my TX16S it didn't appear to be detected by my PC, although some of the functions on companion worked. I was expecting to see a drive appear on my desktop when I pugged my radio in, and when it didn't appear I just assumed that that's what it did. So watching this tutorial were you confirm I should be seeing a drive, I went and plugged my radio in to another PC, and it did show up on the desktop. Anyhoose, I did the update, which worked fine, so thank you for that, I had a feeling that if I plugged my radio in to the original PC that it would now show up on the desktop, which it did, so IDK if that's because of the new version of EdgeTX?
Interesting. The version of EdgeTX shouldn't effect the PC recognizing it. You sure the radio was on the first time you plugged it in? If it isn't powered on it won't show as a drive, it just connects in STM32 bootloader mode, and you also have to select "Storage" from the radio display after you plug it in? Also, sometimes it can take a bit of time before it pops up showing the drive. Hard to say, glad it's working now! Thanks for your comment.
Hi followed your video. It was easy. Now lua script won't load. I press the expresslrs button but it says loading but doesn't do anything. Is there a way to factory reset the transmitter. To start again from fresh.
Factory reset won't change anything. Lua scripts, models, etc. all run from the SD card. What version of the ExpressLRS script are you using? Do you have internal or external ELRS? Make sure you have the RF module turned on and selected in the SYS -> Hardware screen and that the model in question has the proper RF module and protocol selected. Depending on which version you were on and which you updated to you might have to reset some settings.
Question : my middle mod and acrobatic mode ( no safe mode) have the same movement. example: i move stil (any) to the further far side and the move the the 3 modes i have in my switch. Thanks
@@shanesdiy good question, i purchase used and i think previous owner does not remember. So , factory reset does not solve this problem? Or i shouldn't adjust this prior starting forward programming process like regular rx set up? tks
It isn't a problem, it just has two modes currently. Very common. If you have the latest forward programming scripts on the radio, enter forward programming and you can change the configuration of each flight mode. Mode #2 often is set for "Envelope" which doesn't have auto leveling but does have bank limits. If you get into forward programming and don't have access to edit flight modes it is still locked or perhaps you've unlocked it but didn't do the factory reset yet. Once you do the factory reset you have to program everything from scratch. It's all explained and demonstrated in this video series.
@@shanesdiy ok tks i did set on one mode on enbelope yhanks to your video. So the throw of the control surfaces are adjusted by the angle, correct and it is done in the gain section? tks
@@alexherrera3918 You can't adjust the throw of the control surfaces like high/low rates via forward programming. In safe/self level mode the throw of the control surfaces is proportional to the bank or pitch angle. If the plane is level and you go full right aileron, for example, the aileron will move to its max. As the plane rotates to the right, the ailerons will gradually return to the neutral position and when you reach the programmed bank limit, they will be at neutral preventing you from banking any further. This has the same effect of "low rates". If you set it for envelope mode, the control surfaces will have full throw until the plane bank reaches the bank limit and then they will quickly snap to the neutral position preventing further banking. This still keeps you from going inverted but have much quicker response. Gain adjusts how the gyro automatically compensates for uncommanded movement such as wind, and self adjusts the control surfaces. The bank limits are edited in the "Gyro settings" -> "SAFE Settings" -> "Angle Limits" menu If you want to program high/low rates and expo do that in your transmitter and you'll be able to much more precisely control that. You generally want to leave 100% rates while in safe mode as it is already dialed down inside the receiver.
Yes. Sometimes you need to recalibrate the sticks, make a few adjustments here or there. Just be sure to do a full pre-flight test of all controls for each plane after any update. 2.9.4 is the latest stable release, I think 2.10.0 is coming soon. I've been testing the new 2.10.0rc3 release candidate the last week.
Only need to go to 2.8 first if you are coming from a much older version or OpenTX. I'd go straight to latest. 2.10.4 currently. Note, in 2.10.0 there were some hardware addressing changes so some folks have to go into the SYS->HARDWARE screen and check/reset switches, pots and sliders, and possibly calibrate the sticks. Simple process if you need to do it, just letting you know so you don't panic if some switches stop working after the update.
@@larryburrough7678 Basically, if your model files are are already in the ".yml" format, you are good. What it does when you have an old version like OpenTX, is convert your "model.otx" files into "model.yml" format when you update to EdgeTX 2.7-2.8. EdgeTX eliminated the built in model converter after 2.8.

The big problem of updating is ending up with a version that has more bugs than your current version. The list of bugs does not seem to be getting any shorter. Maybe there should be a separate branch for BW and color.
There have been some critical bug fixes along the way but like many things these days, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies. You can always review the change log and decide if anything applies to you. I've only encountered bugs that "bugged me" while helping evaluate the nightly builds or pre-releases. From my experience the devs and beta testers do a great job of finding and fixing issues prior to final public release.
@shanesdiy there was one bug that messed up companion and I was using nightly and I got hit with it and I am not sure if it is safe to use the write back feature of companion.
Honestly you can't really complain about bugs if you are using the nightly builds. They intended to be used for debugging and suggested to not fly your plane with them or "use at your own risk". Stick with the latest stable release.
@@Mikeylikesit1968 Same, I don't use it much with my radio, I mostly use Companion to create "virtual radios" when someone has a question about a Boxer, Zorro, etc. that I don't have and I can simulate just about anything.

Hello, please help me how to make the EDGE TX Radiomaster 16 timer start when the gas stick is raised up.
@@shanesdiy This does not work in EDGE TX, it works in OPEN TX.
What does not work in EdgeTX? These throttle timer settings? Of course they do, I use them all the time. Or are you referring to something else?
@@shanesdiy Firmware 2.10. The timer countdown does not start when the throttle stick is raised, assigned a switch to the throttle, it does not work, it is assigned to toggle switches, how can I make the countdown start when the throttle stick is raised?
I'm on 2.10 and it works, perhaps something you got setup incorrectly. I've been thinking King of doing a video on the different throttle timers, I'll try and schedule time soon for a video guide.
Thanks I am looking to acquire a 16s and this is helpful
In Episode 3 I show how to reverse a gyro channel. The link below takes you directly to that time stamp.

By the way, if you can get it into safe mode with self leveling it is much easier to confirm if the control directions are correct. In AS3X you have to watch very closely for the slight movement.
@@shanesdiy I watched several time i learned a lotta.
I finally factory reset and started from scratch...including the relearn the servos from your video and worked now.
i still do not know what i did wrong...my guess did not relearn the servos.
Many thinks to do if you are just learning.
Many thanks for your support.
my tx16s has no firmware folder - should i make a new folder & call it firmware?
If you want to update any firmware yes, I would create the folder and put the new bin files there. It doesn't use the folder under normal operation, just a place to keep the files during the update process. Also, the files in the firmware folder are what will show up when you start the radio in bootloader mode. Make sure the spelling is correct and, I'm not certain, but it may also be case sensitive so match it with what you see here.
@@shanesdiy thank you Sir - it worked. took me about 1.5 days to figure my new tx16s out & that is just the basics lol - enough to fly :-) scary frustrating at first but as time gets on its pretty awesome. next spare day crow brakes on my phoenix 2400. Cheers
Thanks Shane! Good video.
Question : my middle mod and acrobatic mode ( no safe mode) have the same movement.
example: i move stil (any) to the further far side and the move the the 3 modes i have in my switch.
I see that there is a differencw between safe level mode and the second mode. Bu when i move switch to third mode that does not have safe then the suface level does not move further, that tell me that it was alreasy at the max.
please advice how to adjust this , i am using an ar631 in a durafly tundra. my tx is Boxer with laters firmware version.
Thanks
What model? Many BNF models with the stock program switch between 3 modes but modes 2 & 3 are just AS3X, no auto leveling or bank limits.
The bank limits are edited in the "Gyro settings" -> "SAFE Settings" -> "Angle Limits" menu
If you want to program high/low rates and expo do that in your transmitter and you'll be able to much more precisely control that. You generally want to leave 100% rates while in safe mode as it is already dialed down inside the receiver.
Great video. Can I update directly from 2.7.1 to 2.9.3 ?
@@shanesdiy Thank you for the answer. I will try to update my radio :)
@@shanesdiy Updated to 2.9.4. with no problem. Thank you so much 🙂
Mine is on 2.7. do I need to go to 2.8 first then 2.10 or can I go straight to 2.10
Only need to go to 2.8 first if you are coming from a much older version or OpenTX.
Ok. Just in case I put 2.8 an 2.10 on SD card. Mine came with 2.7 so was just making sure
@@shanesdiy reason for asking is cause I read that it said to go to 2.8 first an don't want to mess it up.
@@shanesdiy ok cool thanks. I'm new to radio master an just noticed my rudder don't move on the channel monitor. All the other movements work when move stick other than rudder
@shanesdiy I really think they are trying to cover too many different devices in one thread.
Funny thing is I cant get the newest companion to work on my laptop , It starts installing and then I get a pop up saying error
Might want to download a fresh copy, perhaps the download got corrupted? I haven't had any trouble installing 2.9.3 Companion.
@shanesdiy I tried over and over. But oh well, really don't need it. I just make copies of my SD card
@@Mikeylikesit1968 Same, I don't use it much with my radio, I mostly use Companion to create "virtual radios" when someone has a question about a Boxer, Zorro, etc. that I don't have and I can simulate just about anything.
Buddy does the same thing . Just download the bin , takes me less then 2mins to update
I mention Buddy in the video and it works for me as well but I have worked with a 1/2 dozen people that could not get their transmitters to be recognized by the PC and talk to Buddy. A PC issue but the method shown here eliminates most complications I've ran into providing tech support. Goal is to remove as many potential technical issues as possible.
