    A question please - (not about Aeroscout) - I am working with Forward programming on an AR630. I have SAFE and AS3X. Right now I have it set up with a SAFE mode, a SAFE off mode with gyro on and SAFE off mode with gyro off (these are on a 3 way switch). I want to change one of the SAFE off modes to be - SAFE ON - but with self-leveling OFF. When I googled that as a question the answer was it could be done thru forward programming by selecting the right flight mode. But it did not give details on how to do that. Can you tell me how to have a SAFE mode but without self leveling? This would be the same as the intermediate mode in the Aeroscout. So what I'm trying to do is set up my AR630 (to be used in another airplane) that will have a flight mode option that works like the Aeroscout intermediate mode. Thanks

      @shanesdiy 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi and thanks for the comment! "Intermediate Mode" is referred to inside Forward Programming an "Envelope" so if you have Safe Off for one of the modes and set it to Envelope that will have bank and pitch limits but no auto leveling. The full safe with auto level is referred to in Forward Programming as "Self-Level/Angle Dem". Here is a link to one of my videos that takes you to one point in the video where I mention envelope mode. Later in the video I also show F-F-Mode settings where you can set each flight mode. th-cam.com/video/mEfLGnEZN9U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wwJ5um4j3q2n2YOP&t=1391

      @@shanesdiy Thank you Shane....exactly what I need. There is a strange problem with the Aeroscout where in some planes if you are in intermediate mode it will start to self level if you try to turn. For most, including myself it is the left turn, I saw some comments in the rc forum that it was the right turn for some others. So now I can program an AR630 OR AR631 to mimic the 3 flight modes on the Aeroscout and avoid my left turn problem. I could find no answer in my testing or searching rc form as to what causes this problem.

    Hey, i actually got this to work with t16s (opentx) and a Boxer (edge tx) slave on a Hobbyzone Carbon Cub using the "Channels" in special functions under Trainer. I had to reverse the rudder and aileron channels in the Boxer Slave. The only thing is the 3 levels of stabalization selection. I only have Stabization selction on the Master on a 3 position switch. When in training mode, it will transfer the selection to allow beginner and intermediate but not advanced (ie AS3X only) selection . 2nd and 3rd position on the swtich remain intermediate on the Slave. Im using the stabalization selection method as you used for the Aero Scout. That's the only snag. I will also try the channel mix method to see if this makes a difference. Great video. Cheers

      @@alvandergoot7237 is the trainer flight mode switch moving the channel value from -100 / 0 / +100 both on the boxer and the tx16s? If not, what are the indicated channel values on both radios while in trainer mode? @alvandergoot7237 keep channel 6 at +100. Maybe you know this but just in case I'll clarify. Channel 6 is panic. Keeping it at +100 will keep panic off. Channel 5 are the 3 flight modes. +100 is safe, 0 is intermediate, -100 is advanced/as3x mode. Make sure neither the boxer or tx16s has the "enable max throws" checkbox checked in the model setup. Just need the proper connector or perhaps you can just cut off the power wire from the supplied "wall-wart" power supply and wired that up to your battery. HELP- I'm not a facebook member. Is anyone familiar with the weird Aeroscout problem where the plane will self level when you are in intermediate mode? It should only do that in beginner mode. It only happens when I turn left. I start the left turn and get par way thru it then the self level takes over and levels the plane back to straight ahead - not good.

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Many, including myself, have reported odd bugs with the stock programmed AR631 intermediate mode. I wouldn't describe it as self leveling but rather it will randomly stop responding until you move the aileron stick back and forth a couple times. Doesn't happen to everyone but certainly I've heard of the anomaly by enough folks and experienced it myself enough to believe it is a real issue. My fix was to just factory reset the AR631 and reprogram it from scratch as I've shown in some videos. You might want to double check how you've setup your panic button as it will take over and self level the plane regardless of the flight mode you are in. Safe is on channel 6 and must be held at +100 to keep panic mode OFF. Safe flight modes are of course on channel 5. What radio are you using? I have quite a few videos on various aspects of the AeroScout setup if you browse through my RC Guides and and my "Hobbyzone AeroScout 1.1m" playlists.

      @shanesdiy 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lw216316 Channel 6 is panic and most put it on a momentary push button. Channel 5 is the safe modes and normally on a 3 way toggle switch if you want all 3 modes. What did you do with channel 6? Make sure you do not have any servos connected when you plug in the SPMA3065 cable to the receiver if powering it from the PC and make sure the polarity is correct for the signal and ground wires. Most of my videos are geared around Radiomaster radios but the receiver firmware update stuff is relevant and forward programming topics really apply to any Forward Programming capable radio. One video for example linked below discusses making sure you have channels 5 and 6 setup correctly and why. It is using the Radiomaster radio but you still need to be sure channels 5 and 6 are setup correctly with your Spektrum NX radio. I have 25 videos specifically geared to the AeroScout in that playlist and many more RC related videos in the "RC Guides" playlist. th-cam.com/video/ZefAYBJVdvk/w-d-xo.html

      @@shanesdiy ok, I will try taking panic off the F switch. I have it assigned to channel 6. It is easier to get to with the flip of a finger rather than fumbling to find the 'bind button'. Maybe that will fix it. The odd thing is I use the F switch for panic mode on all my other airplanes that have a panic option and it works fine. I even have some Aeroscouts that are working with the panic on the F switch. But I have other aeroscouts that have the problem of not holding a left turn in intermediate mode. Yes, I did discover that moving back and forth would get it turning again but then the problem persists. I can also use max rudder to turn but I'm training students on the Aeroscout and this is not a good solution for them.

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lw216316 Your F switch on channel 6 is probably fine, I was just making sure channel 5 and 6 weren't getting mixed up inadvertently. Might check to make sure there aren't any mixes that got linked with channel 6 that would switch on Panic unexpectedly. What about it possibly entering failsafe mode? Any chance that plane is losing signal? After a flight when you experience this you could check your flight log and see if any "Holds" were recorded. A failsafe would switch it to auto leveling mode automatically until signal was recovered.

    Hello Shane, super noob here, I have a few questions you may be able to help with. Let me start by saying I got my first plane right before christmas this year. The plane was the carbon cub S2 RTF. On my third flight using the supplied DXE transmitter the plane started acting strange and flew out over the ocean not letting me control it at all until I lost sight of it. I’m a little bummed about. So, I made a pretty big jump in my opinion and purchased a tx16s mk2 last week with built in 4 in 1 and the ranger elrs exterior module. I also bought the turbo timber sws. It’s such a cool plane. I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But how would I get started. The planes receiver is the AR8360T and has the Avian smart Esc. Oh I forgot to mention the plane is a BNF. Anyways, do I need to download files from somewhere on the internet to my transmitter to be able to use this receiver and its stock functions? Or can I just bind to the transmitter and it be ok to use? I hope this isn’t too ignorant of a question. Thank you Shane. You’ve got a lot of good info on your channel. - Stephen

The Turbo Timber SWS is an amazing airplane although will be much more heartbreaking for that one to go down or fly away! Depending on the firmware that came on your TX16S it should bind right up and let you fly. I would make extra certain that everything is working exactly as you expect, do a proper range test on the ground prior to flight, etc. While it shouldn't be absolutely required, I would also have the latest DSM Tools scripts on the radio (this may require updating EdgeTX firmware if you have an older firmware, latest is 2.10.5). I have a fairly recent video on installing or updating your DSM Tools on the TX16S. This script will let you access the Spektrum Forward Programming on the receiver and adjust gyro settings and also access additional telemetry data, access the Avian ESC to setup reverse thrust if you want, etc. Browse through my "RC Guides" playlist, there is a lot of information there to consume. With the TX16S and EdgeTX you can setup the plane as simple or complex as you want, just be sure to fully understand your setup and know you have it right before you fly. I'd hate to see you have a bad experience with such an expensive airplane and give up too soon! Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. When I can I am always happy to help. That said, here in a couple weeks I may be unavailable for some time but will do my best to stay on top of comments. Welcome to RC!

    Help! Any guide out there to help set up Elevon AR631 setup? With these videos was able to get AR631 working w/ my TX16S but can't figure out how to use it due to mixes on my 2 servo elevon airplane. For mixes I have CH1 50% R-Ele & -50% R-Ail, Ch3 is Thr, Ch4 is -50% L-Ele & -50% L-Ail. Without gyro control surfaces work correctly. I've tried a zillion things but can't figure out how to set up gyro to move surfaces in the right direction. Have tried Airplane type with 1 Ail servo and 2 Ele servo setup and tried Delta /Elevon A with rudder only. I can get both working w/our gyro but can't figure out with either how to get gyro to send correct data to BOTH tail surfaces. Usually only 1 tail responds to movements.

      So you have it working but can't get Safe/AS3X modes working with the Elevon setup? Assuming you have the radio mixes setup properly (as the receiver would expect them) in the DSM Tools script "Model Setup" you'd set the wing type as "Delta/Elevon A" or "Delta/Elevon B". The setup would also let you tell the receiver what channels should be assigned for which servo/control surface. In this video the chapter on the "DSM_Data File" I show some of how the model setup file works. I don't discuss the Elevon wing type but it's one of them. I've never tried it, perhaps I'll take some time on my desktop model and see if I can set up a demo and make a video on it.

      Well, I'm no heli guy, never worked with either the ikon2 or the 4651T so I'm no expert on your particular equipment but I'll offer some thoughts and try to help! lol. Are you receiving any telemetry data back from the 4651t? The 4651t can only send data back to the radio that it collects from the ikon2. I'm not sure how the ikon2 gets battery information but assuming it has it and is communicating it with the 4651t, if you are bound to the receiver with a telemetry capable radio (what radio are you using?) with DSMX, then go to the telemetry screen and "Discover New" it should populate the list with whatever is coming back from the receiver. The 4651t is backwards compatible with DSM2 but be sure you are using DSMX protocol because DSM2 will not send telemetry data. If you were previously bound with DSM2, rebind with DSMX, go back to the telemetry screen, if there is anything on the list, clear it and Discover New again. Sorry I can't offer more definitive information, just not familiar with your specific equipment. Can I also ask why you are still using OpenTX and not EdgeTX?

      @@citruspressurewash Odd you aren't getting any telemetry. Did you bind with DSMX? Instead if a simple on/off or continuous timer I always use "Throttle %" for one timer and an up timer for timer 2. Timer 1 using Throttle % changes how fast the time counts based on how much throttle I give it so in my experience it comes out much more consistently once I come up with a time. Timer 2 counts up so I know how long the flight was in total. For example, timer 1 may only be 5 minutes counting down but timer 2 will show a total flight time of 10-12 minutes counting up. I land based on timer 1. Timer 2 is just for reference.

    Your videos are compelling. New at this, and I'm thinking of upgrading my 'beginner' Spektrum to the NX8 BUT the Radiomaster TX16s seems quite nice. What does the TX16s give me that say the NX8 does not. I recently put a Lemon Rx in one plane so I am not fixed on Spektrum only. (Putting the cost of each aside.) Your thoughts on TX16s vs. Spektrum would be appreciated. I am sure others have the same question. Getting the DSMX stuff on the TX16s seems like PIA so looking for reasons to use the TX16s rather than the "plug and play" environment of Spektrum. Thanks for your great videos. All the best to you.

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cost certainly does factor in, you can get the 4in1 TX16S with the AG01 gimbals for less than the NX8 but that said I would still prefer my TX16S over even the higher end Spektrum radios costing $1K or more. My reasoning may be some folks reasons for not liking the TX16S, or EdgeTX, but I am a huge fan of the open source EdgeTX with active development. The users actually have a big impact and voice in what gets done with the software. I have several Spektrum radios including an NX6 and it is a fine radio but with my TX16S I have virtually unlimited programmability and can setup nearly anything I can imagine. This intimidates some so isn't for everyone. With the recent updates to the DSM scripts for EdgeTX, which I produce a lot of content for, have made the TX16S able to do anything with Spektrum receivers and accessories as you can with a "pure" Spektrum radio. Many things require a more manual approach to setup models vs with the Spektrum radios do have a little more of an automated setup methods. Once you know your way around EdgeTX and the TX16S (or Zorro, Boxer, etc) in my experience I have found that creating a custom model setup with my NX radio is much more limiting and frustrating. This and the fact that you can bind to just about any receiver out there if you want to try something such as FlySky, FrSky, etc. as well as being able to add external RF modules to expand to ELRS, I just don't see any comparison. With Radiomaster you aren't locked in to only Spektrum or DSM. My experience has been great with Radiomaster, some folks report problems with various things, difficult to understand how to program, etc. but I've also heard many reports of similar issues with Spektrum radios, hardware lock ups, etc and they have to send them to Spektrum to get repaired. On my Radiomaster radios, the manufacturer has every single internal component available for very reasonable cost to repair it myself. Optional add on parts, etc. Self repair also isn't for everyone but is definitely for me so again, something I appreciate may not be for the next person. Hope this was helpful insight! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the NX8, it is a fantastic radio. I like my NX6 it just doesn't compare in my opinion to my TX16S or even my Zorro.

      @@shanesdiy Shane, this is the best explanation of the difference that I have seen. I guess it comes down to Android vs. Apple. @shanesdiy หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dang, sorry to hear that. While it is part of the hobby and inevitable, you never get used to the crashes, at least I don't. The fades, holds, etc. come through as telemetry. You can put them on the screen with Widgets. I'll put a link below to one of my videos at the point you can see Holds and Fades shown on the TX16S screen. At the end of any flight before you turn off the radio you can see all of them a couple different ways assuming you don't have them shown on a screen. You can just navigate to the telemetry screen and scroll to those values. They will stay there until you turn off the radio or switch models. The other way is to open the DSM Smart RX script and look at the flight log. It will show you the same screen as you'd see on a Spektrum radio. The only one that is really relevant are Holds. That means it was in failsafe and ideally you don't want any of those. You'll almost always see tons of fades, thousands of them potentially, don't worry about those. If you did lose connection and the receiver went into failsafe and it didn't go to zero throttle I wonder if your throttle failsafe was set properly. To set throttle failsafe to zero throttle, you must have throttle at minimum while you bind to the receiver. It saves the current throttle setting as failsafe during the bind so if you have it set at 50%, for example, and the radio and receiver lose connection, throttle defaults to 50%. This all assumes you have/had a Spektrum Smart receiver in your Mig29.

I see that my front diff vent cap is also missing and now I'm wondering about the transfer case and rear diff. These are cheap, going to pick up a few. Can't be good to leave the hose open and potentially get water, bugs, and random junk in there. Thanks for your help!

    Cool test ... thanks. Am considering buying a new RadioMaster radio soon and will use your links to do so.

    Hello Shane, you may have video on this but is there a way to change 3 way switch into 2 way without changing out the actual switch. For example I have low rate and high rate (no mid rate). Switch pos 1 is low middle pos is nothing switch pos 3 is high. How do I disable that middle pos because if I accidentally switch to mid it disables my entire plane because I have not assigned anything to the mid switch. Thank you

      As with most things in EdgeTX there are many ways to accomplish this. Assuming you have your dual rates set up in the inputs (where they should be) I assume you have your 3 way switch assigned under "switch" for high rate of SA↑ (for example), and low rate is SA↓? In this scenario all you would have to do is change one of these to !SA↓ or !SA↑. So for example if high rates was SA↑ and low rates was !SA↑ then in both SA- and SA↓ would be low rates. So "!SA↑" means "NOT SA↑". Hope that makes sense. Another option would be to setup 2 logical switches in basically the same way then use the 2 logical switches in place of the switch in the inputs for the dual rates setup. Custom curves are also a way to turn a 3 way switch into a two way. Obviously there will aways be 3 positions but you make two of them the same output value.

    From what I've heard from people, when you set up thrust reverse with the AeroScout motor, it's wear and tear on that motor over time if you don't wait for the prop to fully stop. That particular one isn't designed to be reversed on purpose. Some EDF planes will have this functionality because they have a different motor made specifically for RT and have to land at a very fast rate.

      @@robertcooper3746 thats why you setup the brake and use my logic to e sure the motor is stopped before it goes to reverse. I know many folks that use it a lot on this plane without issue. I only activate it for a few seconds on landing, have had zero issues so far. Only failed motors I hear about are from people that try to run it on 4S.

    Question…do you planning to release a video that details how to update Turbo Timber with Spektrum receiver from AS3X to AS3X+ using TS16S with Forward Programming Version 59. I don’t see any video that clearly explain. I really appreciate the videos that you have released as they are super thorough. Thanks for considering! 😊

      I'll give it some thought. The EdgeTX unique procedures haven't changed with the new update, just how Forward Programming is setup with the new AS3X+ features so I hadn't seen much value in a new video for that. Are you referring to updating the receiver firmware because that part uses the PC, not the radio and there are quite a few videos already out on updating the receiver firmware. If you mean setting up Forward Programming in a newly updated receiver for AS3X+ the initial setup using the DSM Tools model setup is the same as it always has been and once in Forward Programming it is the same as with any Spektrum radio so videos on the subject for that part of the AS3X+ setup will apply. I worked with the DSM Tools developer to get all the menus populated and as far as I know v0.59 will set up a receiver exactly as a Spektrum radio will. If there are any specific things that are causing you problems let me know.

    Is there a way to mute the voice alert when it says “telemetry lost/found”. I want to hear the other voice prompts I have set but don’t want to hear that one. I have separated the antennas to try and reduce that issue but still happens and most of my planes this only happens in a certain area of the airfield but other planes it happens all the time. Thanks and Happy thanksgiving

      Sure, in the telemetry screen there is a checkbox for "Disable telemetry alarms". Just turn that on and it will not give you the telemetry lost callouts. Particularly useful with Spektrum receivers as they only have short range "fly-by" telemetry so even if you lower the alarm points to 1 and 1 you'll still get nuisance alarms often. Has nothing to do with control signal.

      I recently did a video upgrading from the Gen 2 to the Gen 3 and the procedure to add the node was a little different. Are you using the Gen 2, Gen 3, or Gen 4 system? You can watch the rest of the video if you want but the link below takes you directly to the new process where you have to click the "Add Mesh Node" button. It doesn't appear to auto detect any longer so try this. Also, be sure you have the node close enough to get a good signal. You can always move it further away once it establishes a connection. th-cam.com/video/y9mb6Yh-9Wc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uyL0NGDO9iUjkUiL&t=1369
