I love how if the dog could open that door he would have definitely put all the sheep in the house 😂
Maybe in his mind he thinks that the owner cant catch the sheep
My late Australian Shepherd could open doors with handles and sliding glass doors. No joke
What a team they would have been 😄
🤣
Imagine coming back home and finding sheep sitting watching television and a Border Collie looking at you with
_"How's this?_ all over his face.
Our border collie spot used to open our french doors so often my mom trained him how to close it after himself! Rip my friend
Those poor sheep seem so confused! Like “you want us to go there?!? I don’t think we’re supposed to be there…” 😆😆😆
Poor sheep. They didn't like sliding around on that decking.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 They do look confused!

When I was a kid, we lived waaaaay out in the Texas countryside, at the end of a long road. We six kids had to walk up to meet the bus every morning, heat or snow, rain or shine, and our sheltie, Nickie, took it as his solemn duty to herd us kids up to the the bus stop, and get us onto the school bus. Every afternoon, he'd be there waiting for the bus, to herd us home.
RIP, Nickie, a good doggo.
This story is so precious 🐶
Our Arizona ranch dog also used to meet us at the bus. Good memories.
I’m glad you got to have that experience.
love that! … such a great memories to smile about! 👍🏻👍🏻
You should write a children’s book about this
My sister found a stay Border Collie and brought him home, i can remember heading out to one of our pastures to bring a horse in. My sister joking around said "go get em" and pointed and the dog took off and brought the horse to gate. I was floored and that was the beginning of us having border collies.
Lol, that's great! They are really smart!
@Chipster Took my 1.5 year old Sheltie for a herding ability test. He did the same thing!
Oh so THAT'S how you get a horse.
@@galadriel3134 and one day this dog shows up with some horses, i swear i didnt steal them officer. Lmfao
Yes!!! My chickens got out of the coop and jokingly I told my 5 month old border collie to get them back onto the coop. 40 seconds later all 6 were back inside. Literally the best dogs

Eight children in my family. We had a border collie and my mom loved to have him do this with us when it was time to come in. We had a 40 acre hobby farm and he would run all over collecting us and we knew what he was doing and played along. I never loved an animal as much as him (Phillip). (just teared up)
That dog has serious skills. But the sheep are looking around saying, "WTF, this is not the time or place for this"
😄
Very very smart dog.
We have one...
I'm just glad my dog is not this smart!

That’s hysterical😂
Family sheeple😂
He probably was like: "I bet you're wondering why I gathered you all here. Me too."
But I did hear that border collies do have a very strong herding instinct. I heard that you have to be careful with them at children's parties because they can start herding the kids.
Ha ha ha!
🤣🤣🤣
That is true
This is true I’ve got two and they sometimes herd up the neighborhood children but in a gentle way.
My dog is only part border collie, but she likes to herd kittens. (I don't have any sheep, but probably if I did. . . . .)
This is hilarious! I’m glad there was a security camera to catch the action. One of my friends used to have a border collie. It was a sweet, likable dog. Whenever she had a party at her house, the dog couldn’t stand it if any of us left the party area. He would herd us back together each time! If one of us went to the bathroom, he would wait outside and herd us back as soon as we came out. The dog needed a job, as all collies do. When his owner got more involved with feral cat rescue, it turned out that the dog was wonderful with taking care of the kitties. He would wash them, cuddle them and keep them herded together and safe! After that he wasn’t so cutely annoying around her friends because he had a job he loved!
My Mom had to have help in her final years. Her self-appointed physical therapist was her Norwegian Elkhound bitch, a thoroughly delightful dog.
One of the tasks Elkhounds are used for is herding reindeer, and Aani would nip at Mom's caregivers' heels to keep them in the bedroom.
One of the caregivers brought her infant daughter to work every day, and leave the baby in her car seat sitting in the Lazy Boy. Aani would climb into the recliner and cuddle the little girl, just loved that baby.
Loved this!
Love your story ! I have a border collie mix I guess my sweet baby needs a Job 😁😁
Awww what a sweetheart
Many races of herding dogs do the same, if it consider you part of his herd, human, cat, sheep doesn't make any difference :-)
I had an Aussie who went next door to a 4 yr old birthday party and rounded up ab 10 screaming kids and drove them over to my house. I thought their mothers would have a fit but one lady laughingly asked if I could bring over Scooby everyday after school and keep the kids in line😊
Hey my human, look what I found! Can we keep them? haha
This is genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve ever read 😂
I suspect it may have been more a case of the toddlers following the dog 😂
My grandmother had collie that keep the kids in the back yard. She claimed it was the best baby sitter there ever was.
@@justanamerican9024 Haha, it's funny how dogs instincts work so well with parents too. So many dogs who are not herding dogs and sometimes quite derpy get this surge of parental feelings when a baby arrives in their family.
Cats do it too but less reliably.
"We definitely want these sheep over here. I'm sure of it. We can keep a real good eye on them over here."
It's like the doggy knows he's supposed to stay at home, but also he's got job number one to herd the sheep. I think he decided if he herds the sheep in the house then he could do both at once. So hilarious and loyal!
A very logical thought for him
My thought exactly!
Must of been covid work from home
Duty above self 😂

We had a Border Collie growing up. He herded everything!!!! He herded a fam of skunks under the house. He would herd the deer in the fields around us. He would herd cats, cows, sheep, us kids and anything else!!! He wanted everything to be where he had control of all of it at once. Doc is a very smart boy.
Lmfao @ herding cats. I believe that segways into a joke.
We had a sled dog/collie mix and she hurded children and puppies away from the street, she would let herself out to rescue them

Typical over achiever collie. Obviously he was bored and needed a task. The worlds greatest dogs for sure.
He tried so hard to find out if he could that he never stopped to wonder if he should!
Maybe there was a danger only he could perceive , so he brought them to the safest place he knows?
A Bored-er Collie?
Our neighbors have border collies and they herd my son when he. mows the lawn on the riding mower.. My friend had a herding mix breed and a large, fenced property, poor dog ,she tried to herd the cars driving by on the road by running back and forth along the along the fence line. .

If I owned a manufacturing plant, I want this dog running it. He’s got great initiative, efficiency, work ethic and probably has a few ideas how to improve the place
The future of manufacturing is a guard dog and one man. The guard dog's job is to make sure the man doesn't touch the machinery.
😂😂
A person I volunteered with came to a meeting looking haggard and said they had a new dog and was exhausted by all the things it was doing in the apartment. Said it was a border collie. Before I could stop myself, "Why on earth did you get a border collie?? You live in a dense city and don't have livestock!!" They said "I wanted a smart dog" I said "This isn't a 'smart' dog, this is a dog that needs a job or he will literally go insane. Give him his own set of keys, a MetroCard, access to your bank account and a daily to-do list. And good luck "
I could envision district management coming in and finding all the workers huddled around one machine with the dog circling them.
I was waiting for him to open the door and let the sheep into the house. Even for a border collie he is exceptionally smart and will get even smarter as time goes on.
I could picture arriving home to find them rounded up in a room lol!
I have one he's great but not so bright, I had another when I was younger he was an exceptional dog,
Next time he’ll open the door. Amazing!
Not even kidding our border collie spot started opening the French doors leading into the house so often that we trained him to close it after himself. Sadly he passed away at 13 of old age almost 10 years ago. He was an awesome friend.

He was trying to give his owner a "gift" and he wanted to be a "good boy"!!!! Awesome!
Raised on a farm with Collies. One would take off 2 miles to bring in the cows for milking. No orders just "his job" 3:15 daily they would be waiting at the door. They are very clever dogs.
We had one for a pet and she would go to the neighbor’s dairy farm and round up all of his cow for him at milking time. All he had to do was open the gate and she’d herd them in for him. She got killed chasing a car down the road and he came and asked what happened to her. Up until then we didn’t know that she was helping him every day. He said he was sorry to hear it because she saved him time and a lot of walking. I hoped he could get a border collie for himself.

We had a pet border collie called Tip, on a picnic in the country we were sitting under a tree when a mob of sheep appeared being herded by our pet. He was a good dog.

Hilarious! Gotta wonder what the reaction was from the herd's owner when he found out your dog "stole" his sheep!
I do believe herd rustling is a crime in some states punishable by death. But I'm sure they got home safe.
🤣🤣🤣
🤣
He’s very proud of the great job he did!! ❤😂
Whenever I meet someone who has gotten a sheepdog as a pet, I’m always a little stunned when they start complaining about herding behaviors.
Good boy doc. You did exactly what generations of breeding have given you the instincts to do 🤣
It is SUCH a terrible thing when uneducated people get certain dogs based on looks or emotions because the dogs ALWAYS end up paying the price.
One of the only breeds I would ever adopt. I’ve had an Australian Shepherd and I currently have an Australian cattle dog. After a pitbull attack or I was knocked out cold and she did take a full attack it bonded us and she started nudging my leg to keep me going in a specific direction she wanted me to go. Amazing amazing animals
It's all about if you own them, give them a space to unleash their outlets. I have a sheltie, which were bred to herd but also to bark a lot and scare off hawks trying to take the young sheep (or some other predator bird). Well, we have a bird feeder in my backyard to attract birds so he can go out and bark at them (he doesn't attack them, they're fine and come right back and sometimes ignore him for food). But when we take him to the dog park, he doesn't go and greet a dog and start playing with them. He waits until the other dogs are running around and then he starts chasing after them and barking at them. He'll sometimes nip at the smaller ones 🤣 he loves herding other dogs
I know someone who suggests that people with dogs that herd too much should get a bunch of yoga balls and let the dog herd the balls. lol
Working dogs gotta work. 👍
(Otherwise there can be problems)
We have Weimaraners and help out with the Weim Rescue. We have seen several Weimaraners be surrendered because they were on a farm ... with chickens. Weimaraners were bred to be (bird) hunting dogs. They were just doing what they were bred to do.
Doc - what a good pup!
Met a collie on a walk the other day. He tried to herd me. Quick u-turn from a crouch and a prod with his nose. Almost had me.
Naughty you for not obeying! lol!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's keeping them safe until his owners get home.
Even the sheep are confused.
It looks like they’re kind of humoring the doggo.
“Here? Really? Well, alright. You’re the dog.”
My border collie was never trained to heard, but when we go to the dog park as a puppy she headed all the dogs in a group and kept circling them, good dogs.
It’s instinct to them. They don’t have to be trained to do it. They may need training to be able to follow commands of where to take the herd but the herding comes naturally. They will herd groups of ducklings, dogs, cats even children 😆
That's amazing!
Its a natural instinct
Hence they need to be trained as puppies not to herd if they are just gonna be domestic dogs
Our German Shepherd used to do the same at the dog park. Dog owners would freak and think she was trying to be aggressive. Nope just trying to keep them moving along. She always did the same to our other 2 dogs in the backyard.
@@dianas514 my German shepherd used to mouth the backs of necks of any animal that would let close enough, it was a herding instinct. She only settled when everything she loved was in sight of her bless her. She was always guarding my rabbits.

We had a border collie when I was growing up. He was the family pet, and had never seen a sheep or cow or anything in his life before. Then, we rented a cottage that a family friend owned, a family friend that also owned a farm. We were out for a walk one day and came across a field with a small herd of cattle in it. Gordie just stopped and stared at them, and you could see the wheels turning in his head as his breeding and instincts woke up. After a bit, he just took off, and herded them together and over the hill, out of sight. He came back to the cottage a couple of hours later, exhausted but happy, and slept the rest of the weekend. We realized that we had to keep him on a leash whenever we visited again, just to prevent a repeat performance.
this made my day :) He was just trying to make sure everything was the way he thought it should be if left in charge....love him.
Few things bring me as much joy as watching a Border Collie work...
Me to it is amazing :)
What does a border collie do when he gets loose and unattended? He goes to work! 😂
My dog loved to be chased and his best times ever were when we would visit my friend with a border collie. She would “herd” him from the front yard to the back yard over and over again. They both had the time of their lives.
I had a German Shepherd mix, and the shepherd part was major in this dog. He would herd my other dogs and my kids. He loved the evening time when he got to put the chickens away. The chickens didn't particularly like being herded back into their pen, but the shepherd was right on that task.

Well trained collie. He reminds me of a malamute I had years ago that had been raised on a cattle ranch. I often took the dog with me to the field (I am a geologist and often work in remote country) and the dog roamed nearby as I worked. More than once when I came back to my truck at the end of the day the truck was surrounded by cattle the dog had rounded up. He was always perched atop the cab, proudly waiting with the herd. If one of the cows strayed he'd jump down and bring it back to the truck. Once they learn their job, they do it well. Really rather funny. Unfortunately, the ranchers didn't think it was.
I can't stop laughing at your comment. It's hilarious! Specially the last part. 🤣🤣🤣

I miss my dog so much.. I had mini dachshund named Chuck Norris.. He made it to 13.. acted like an 85 year old grumpy man his entire life except when it came to tennis balls.
He used to patrol the park next door (that was his job in life) but the barking was next level.. we taught him that he was only allowed to bark with a tennis ball is his mouth, which acted as muffle. it was hilarious.. He'd spot another dog in "his" park and chase it up and down the fence, stopping every so often to pick up his ball for a few barks.

It's crazy how deeply embedded their behavior is. My girl is only 1/4 aussie shepherd, but you'd think she was pure bred the way she tries to herd her packmates.
People really have a hard time comprehending the power of genetics. We live in such individualistic societies, plus we have the political legacy of Nazis and eugenics, so genetic memory is de-emphasized in education. The truth is, much of what we do is genetically determined, as herding is with these breeds. It was taught them and bred in for generation after generation after generation, until it became instinct. It is still a "learned behavior" in a way, only learned many generations ago and passed down in their very blood.

Used to take my Border Collie, Fred, on long hikes with us. When the party of hikers was spread out along the trail in, say, a 50 foot line, Fred would constantly run from the front of the line to the back and return, keeping as close a watch on the entire 'herd' of hikers that he could. He was great around children and it always felt like he was good cougar deterrent as well because of his insane level of alertness.
My grandads sheep dogs would get very depressed when they were too old and infirm to go out to work, and realised they were not going up on the hill. Sheep dogs love their work.
This is the one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in my life!! Sheep are like four legged conference participants, “can anyone open the doors please? We’re here early.” The dog is proud but also thinking, “Now what?” 😭😭😭 I ADORE this dog!

Diann sees the sheep were not where they were supposed to be from the kitchen window so she sends Smoky to put them back where they should be. He takes off right away and puts them back. A little while later the sheep were back where they shouldn’t be so she sends Smoky again to put them back which he does. This happens a few more times and Smoky would return and get his ata boy and most likely a treat. Diann got suspicious after Smoky disappeared and looked out the window to see Smoky herding the sheep back to where they were not supposed to be then Smoky high tails it home so he can once again be sent out to put the sheep back. Cleaver dog he was.
A little bit too clever about the job it would seem. He wanted to game the system for more treats for himself.
Lmao
A most excellent story!
I was at a horse farm where they had a blue Heeler. I was standing with the owner watching a mare and her young foal who were turned out in a small paddock. The Heeler was nicely sitting at the owner’s heels. When she turned her back to the horses, that dog shot off into the paddock for a little herding fun. As she turned around, that dog was back in place at the owners side, the woman none the wiser. I got a good laugh over that one. When you think of it, that took a lot of skill by the dog. Dog had to stay well focused on the horses and his human. It’s risky business chasing a horse let alone a mare with her baby. The dog’s timing to not get caught was flawless.
This story is great!!!! Thank you for sharing
Look what I brought home for you, mom! Smart boy! I wish my son had this much energy for his chores!
I think if the door was open he would have let them into the house, these are the most amazing and smartest dogs on the planet and beautiful also, I am on my fourth in my life time, just never get tired of watching them in their element. I am laughing my butt off when some of the sheep come off the porch and the dog makes them get back on there 🤣🤣😂
They a1s0 wanted !n.
I know a guy who has had their farms loose yard chickens & ducks in the house on several occasions due to their Collie and him forgetting to shut the door. Yes, they make a big mess.....
Job well done Doc ! Thats a good boy !🐕🦺
The look on the sheep's faces when they first get to the porch! 🤣
Yes, priceless.
Imagine he got the door open and you come home to a bunch of sheep in your living room.
Yeah, sitting around on the furniture, tv turned on, smoking, drinking your beer, playing poker, and just chilling. - B [THE SOCKS STAY ON!]

Doc bringing his work home! Such a dedicated boy.
This was hilarious! Looks like Doc does what he has to do, no matter what. Great Video!
Aww... God bless him! He wanted to surprise his family with the extended families in for a visit! That dog needs a treat!!! ❤️
Or perhaps he thought a thunderstorm was approaching & this was the next best thing to getting them in the barn? All dogs can sense the weather better than we can- & Border Collies must be super great at it!
Can you imagine the owners priceless faces if they would of walked in their house and the sheep were in the house all over the place…. 😂
He's such a valuable and smart dog!!
Well, that made me smile. Clever dog, good boy! Best wishes from across the pond in England 🤗
That's a good boy. We have a border collie black lab mix, she does this with out children 😂
That describes my Beth, smartest dog on this planet. Understood a huge vocabulary. Now running the Rainbow Bridge community.
He brought them to the safest place! What a good boy
A roommate told stories about one that got out and herded all the neighborhood kids into one front yard !
🤣😭
This actually made my jaw drop and then I laughed like a luny! So freaking cute!❤
My Aussie would’ve done this all day long!!!! 😂🐶❤️
My sister had an Aussie that used to try and herd ants lol.
😁🧡
@@suemick8709 that’s hilarious!
@Bobb Grimley and yet you took the time and energy to comment
@@suemick8709 My neighbor has 2 border collies,a blue heeler, and a red Aussie he uses to help herd cattle. If one of the other dogs gets "out of line",the Aussie will set them straight.
When you've just gotta herd, you herd.
He thinks he's herding them into a barn. There's a saying that, "If you dont give a Border Collie a job, they will find one." Well he did lol.
“We just wanted to wish you a happy birthday!” Lol
