I remember buying one of those cars when I was 19 in 1990 mint condition Bandit Edition 4 speed t-top for $3500. Those cars were all over the place back in the 80s and 90s and you could get them for next to nothing man how times have changed
I remember salivating as a teen the same age looking at the Auto Trader and others and seeing those $3500 "Bandit's"......... Condition was who knows, but prices were 3.5
I HAD the '77 Bandit but when m my oldest daughter was attending a major university I couldn't justify purchasing parts to maker it back to original condition so I sold it for a freaking $3,000. I've HATED myself every since. Everyday I see my picture of it and just shirt my head. We'll my daughter graduated early with her B.S. and now teaches yoga part-time. Yeah, so worth giving up my dream car, but that's what we do as parents. 😢
"Will Richard be able to meet his tight deadline or is this mission too much for him?".. Well we will never know, because you only showed half the story!
If this is a real 1977 Y82 Black SE car, all of these items are total downgrades. It's missing the hood scoop decal (which should say 6.6 LITRE as this has the Oldsmobile 403 in it) and if it's a true original car, all that aftermarket equipment detracts from its' value. It's not a "build" it's a "rebuild". GM built it, you are RE-building it. GM did not build a "Bandit" edition, that is a total misnomer and true Pontiac folks never call it that. There was a 2nd generation Bandit Edition, but it was an aftermarket done by Trans Am Specialties of Cherry Hill, NJ.
@googleusergp I know the W72, pontiac 400, said t/a 6.6, 200hp, verses, the 180hp base 400, and the 185 hp Olds 403, the two latter saying 6.6 liter on the hoodscoop, like you mentioned for the base 400 L78 Version.
@@thebacdoc6464 Correct, the "T/A 6.6" was only for the high-performance version of the Pontiac 400 (W72). In 1977-1978, there were two versions of the 400, a 180 HP version and a 200 HP version (1977), and 220 HP version (1978). The HP versions were the W72. All 1979 Pontiac 400 engines were paired with the BW Super T-10 and all were HP versions (leftover 1978 versions, hence 220 HP). All versions of the 400 had a 5th VIN digit of "Z", while the 403 Olds (only paired with the TH350 automatic) had a "K" for the VIN code. W72 versions of the 400 had chrome valve covers. The 180 HP versions had painted valve covers. Of course the 403 had painted valve covers too. I have a 1979 10th Anniversary 400/4 speed, one of 1,817.

I always think about that car and where it could have ended up. junkyard? someones backyard? who knows man I can only hope it was given a second chance. i have a 79 camaro im currently working on but I long for a 70-73 firebird

@@WPGinterceptor460Interceptor YOU said these were 16 sec. cars. Nothing you would find on a NASCAR track. Yeah. But as I said, the movie was not about showcasing the fastest cars on the planet.

Blasphemy...to take an original and butcher it. At least this wasn't an "SE" edition as Bandit was w/all the additional factory striping, that really would have been sad...to a purist anyway. But I cannot believe there's such a lack of regard for original cars, especially at this point...when he had those immaculate original seats there and wanted to "dress it up", OMG, made me want to vomit.

He had the engine rebuilt and the transmission replacement, it was beefed up and it hauls ass...
Those 403s were beasts…. Not a big Trans Am fan( i like ‘em but i’d never own one)but i had a few of these engines and they were very torquey…

It’s how the rich stay rich
I dunno if i believe that the car actually had engine problems, i think that may have been made up for the show.
Would be logical if the owner wanted them to lose the bet
I line how they tried to make bleeding brakes rocket science. Guess they never heard of an automatic brake bleeder. So simple and fast to use! lol

The 77 movie cars were 1976s with 77 front clip. They also had the 455.
4.11s never worked with Pontiacs. They had plenty of low-end grunt.

First thing I thought was this car has serious hidden repair issues. Most common being rust and the engine.

16 seconds was quick in the late 70s.
