I spent a year in trauma ICU - my seatbelt nearly dissected me . What helped me get through many days - on respirator or no food or drink for a year - dying of thirst - I thought of pictures of Ethiopian women carrying dying children across vast desert lands seeking the nearest aid . I would think of how dry and thirsty their mouths were and I was at least in A/C. I always reminded myself someone was having a worse day : Or never had a single good day . I had a 10% survival rating - septic 3 times - it’s now 15 years post accident . I have my issues - but all in all ? I feel quite lucky to have been born into the circumstances and time I was born and know that even with my injuries , I’m likely better off than at least 60% of the worlds population . Look on the bright side : Things can always be worse 😊

The woman in the French hospital with “hysteria” may have had “catatonia”, a condition with symptoms that include a lack of movement by “posturing“ (holding unusual body positions), or “wavy flexibility” (resisting movement). The term "hysteria" comes from the Greek word meaning "womb" or "uterus". This term is no longer termed a “gynecological illness“ but symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder or depression. The woman with massive legs and feet earned her living as an exhibit in a circus sideshow. As explained, her condition is called Milroy’s disease, commonly known as lymphedema, which is now treatable but not curable. The two-headed boy’s condition is known as “craniopagus” or parasitic twin Lol. I AM the old woman with a book and a cat. 🤭

I agree with your summary of the pictures. It’s totally sad how horribly people were treated! Today it’s not much advanced! I never heard leprosy called hansons ! Who thinks this crap up!
When you see photos of mummies with their mouths WIDE open - it happens to ALL of us when we die. It isn't because of suffering, pain or being buried alive. Your mouth most always hangs open as SOON as you die. I've seen several of my relatives now just after they've died so I am probably your BEST witness to this fact of death.
It might just be an issue with translation. I feel like they meant that the pictures communicate an 'indescribable feeling', something that you can't convey in words (thus, 'unspeakable')
Bruce Lee was an advisor for the movie "The Wrecking Crew". He said Sharon had a pretty good kick on her but Dean Martin was too lazy to pull it off. She needed a few lessons for her role as a spy. She was adorable. What a crime.
06:53 The woman laying on the right, has bound foot. And kind of looks to be the same as the woman on the left? 08:05 Such a haunting photo considering they both tragically died at such a young age, just 4 years apart.

My nonna from sicily as a kid witnessed a women who begged to have her daughter dug up saying she was crying for her. 3 days later they gave in and the top of the box(casket) had claw marks. From that day forward nonna said to pinch her stab her with needles to make sure she was dead before buried.

This is the dehumanizing of this woman in “lunatic asylum” by
1) putting the “Inmate” number on her dress like a criminal or Nazi prisoner
2) grabbing her hair like a hunter with a trophy
3) she’s probably unconscious from drugs or beatings
At that time a husband could commit his wife to a “lunatic asylum” for ANYTHING
1) if he wanted to get rid of her because he had a mistress or wanted to marry another woman
2) for not having a “subservient disposition”; ie expressing her opinion or disagreeing with him
3) for a change in her disposition due to depression
It is horrific that the man with handlebar mustache was rewarded with a peerage from Great Britain for running a “lunatic asylum”.
