Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (just google it)? It is a great one of a kind product for decluttering your home minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin finally got amazing success with it.
I was given a lot of my grandma's stuff after she passed away. I didn't have the space to keep it. so I made a photo album just about the things she loved then donated the whole lot to good will.
My Family & I Love & have Successfully been working on never leaving a room without picking something up & tossing it out or taking the time to place the item where it belongs. What a Difference it has made for my family & I 🤗👍🏼
I took you along with me, on my iPad, and I listened to you while actually DID my organizing. You helped me so much because I stayed totally FOCUSED !!!!!!! Thank you❣️
Thank you for being on you tube. I was raised in a frugal home. My mother made a lot of our clothes growing up. We did a lot of the things that you talk about. It doesn’t have to be brand new to be enjoyable.Happy New Year. Paula Cox
I dust every single day. Our daughter has allergies and asthma so It's a must. I actually love to clean and organize. Our daughter does as well. She started watching when she was a baby. She started walking at 8 months and at 12 months she was making her own bed. No it wasn't how I would of done it but it was a teaching moment. Start teaching them to clean up after themselves when they are little. I use to make it a GAME hence why she doesn't mind now!
4 years ago I started my minimalism journey, it has been a positive significant impact in every aspect of my life. Just working on something for 5 minutes can definitely make a difference!
Miss Tyra remember I know you're helping us to stay focus with de-cluttering but your grandfather was lived in a different era of time than we do so they kept things because of working and things like that some people kept extra food and their house overload you know with a different air in a different time to be a little easy and know your mom is not saying nothing but again that is your mom's dad. Thank you so much you and your family I truly appreciate everything God bless you guys😇😎
Actually it was my dad's dad and he was just a flat out hoarder. It had nothing to do with a different era for him. This was way more than just keeping a few extra sour cream containers. 7 acres of things is just plain wrong for anyone. He had HUNDREDS of appliances and telephone poles and stuff like that. It really was unbelievable. Thanks so much for watching. I'm so glad you like our videos!
I am late to the conversation, but all great advice. It took me awhile to get my house sorted out, but now I do all the little daily tasks to keep it in good shape.
Fly Lady Kat who is a mentor is WONDERFUL!! She has her own soin on some of the more tedious things that the original FLY LADY has. Nothing was making sense for me until her. However, it may not work for others. So excited about your book. I'm sure it will be VERY HELPFUL FOR ALL OF US!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR PEOPLE. YOIU ARE A BLESSING!!!
My favorite tips are: 1) STOP BUYING CLUTTER. 2) The KonMari (minimalism/tidying up) 20:20 rule for "just in case" items. If you can get it within 20 minutes or it's under $20, don't buy it. 3) Do your declutter in categories like candles, collect every single candle in the house, go through and look for the ones that spark joy. Often you'll realize that you have multiples of an item that's not really necessary. It's taking up space that's valuable. You can often relocate those items to new places and get a whole new look for free 4) It's not all able to be completed in one day. Break it down, sista. (PS. Does Ellie subscribe to Messy Minimalist on You Tube? I love her channel for minimalism & tidying up. She breaks down the emotional connection to hoarding and clutter.
PS...JILL-It's wonderful to see you visit. Always love your conversations, stories and experience/wisdom. You motivated me to work on kitchen today again (counters and surface deep clean yesterday) Just cleaned the stand that our microwave and coffee pot sit on. Hubby tripped over the cat and splattered an entire coffee mug with cream in it all over the floor, wall, counter. Looks like that's the project of the day. Super sticky everywhere! I thought I'd share my microwave cleaning tip that my college age kid shared with me a few years ago. Put a few teaspoons of lemon juice, a few squirts of Blue Dawn in a bowl filled half way with water. Microwave the bowl of this combination until it starts boiling, stop the microwave and leave the hot bowl in for at least 8-10 minutes. Remove the bowl and everything will be loosened with the steam and will wipe off. After wiping down, then use the solution in the bowl to wipe down to remove any stubborn food splatters or grease build up. The lemon does a great job eliminating that funky microwave smell and degreases beautifully. Kids can even help and enjoy watching it bubble up and steam up. Even my younger child would randomly help clean up the microwave doing this trick (BONUS) when he was Jack's age.
Another tip for decluttering heirlooms that are hard to part with: Have conversations with your kids about their memories associated with these items. Even if you don't have an attachment to the item, they might. We were really tight on money this Christmas and the "big" gift from me to my adult children was a carefully selected heirloom. One was a 250 year old book written by my son's ancestor and the other child received a compass that belonged to his great grandfather from the Navy in WWII. It was an emotional moment and I gave these to the kids in private and made handmade boxes for each item. It was amazing to see their reactions and to give a piece of history to each child. It was way more meaningful than any electronic I could've bought at a box store. They were thrilled and still got a great present from mom.
i inherited the family house and I took the family photos, threw out all the blurred ones, and made albums for the siblings and grandkids that included a family timeline. They all loved it and it cleared piles of photos out of my house. Pics of our great grandparents were copied so all could have them. I even left room in the back for them to add their families and they all loved it. Some things can become heirlooms as you declutter. I have also offered dolls from our mothers collection to all the grandkids. They all got to pick. Even the 30 yr old. The rest were donated. We all enjoyed the memories doing this brought up but it was a way to honor the memories and declutter. It can be done in a mentally healthy way for things with emotional attachment.
Talking about saving family treasures, my mother was a doll collector. Unfortunately, in her generation so many were doll collectors that the market was flooded with dolls. Beautiful dolls that she paid top dollar for are on e-Bay for sale for $10 or so. It isn't worth the trouble to sell them so I've had some fun giving some of them away, but finding people who want them isn't always easy. Little girls want baby dolls, not dressed-up porcelain dolls . Family members think it is creepy to walk in a room and see a lot of dolls staring at you and they don't want them. Oh well, my mother enjoyed collecting them so I guess that's what matters. But it taught me a lesson, I'm not collecting anything!
My mother in law was saving dolls for my kids, but I have been clear that they are not coming here. And I've been very deliberate in training kids to purge and keep things in a balanced amount.
🤣I had an Aunt “Dolly” (Irene) when I was a kid-great aunt actually. Her kids were grown & she was almost sixty @ the time. I was maybe ten, and had spent the night there. She had three spare bedrooms-I would sleep in a different one each time UNTIL the night I woke up w her roomful of expensive collector porcelain dolls that crowded this room. Did you ever sleep somewhere else & wake up wondering where you are? It was absolutely horrifying doing this in a roomful of porcelain dolls!
Hi Tawra, Jill and Mike. Thank you for these videos. I have a hard time with gauging the time needed to clean. So I end up with a HUGE panic attack because I feel it will take an entire day and then NOTHING gets done. Then the mess continues to grows and the stress and feeling of failure gets deeper. I am going to start breaking my decluttering chores down into sections and go from there. I made my list. I am going to try a few of your tips to get my 2019 started in the right foot. Thank you again for sharing... Tina
I save stuff in case of.....well, finally it came in handy. My kids were on a scavenger hunt as teenagers and they were able to get all 65 items on the list from my stash - the only rule, do not bring any of it back into the house. Love watching the interaction between the three of you.
Mike you are such a wonderful and dear man. Tawra and her family are so blessed to have you as a wonderful husband and father. I’m so sorry about your relationship with your parents.
Most of the people I know would have a fit about me leaving dirty dishes in my sink over night, I know my mother would have. But I can't handle facing them at night. I would MUCH rather face the dishes first thing in the morning. So that's what I do.
It’s your life. Love it how you see fit. I try to get it all done at night but if not, tomorrow is a new day. I don’t stress over it anymore. If all else fails throw em’ out. :))
Keeping things neat is so hard for me. I have realized I have too much but as crazy as it sounds I don’t know what to keep or what to get rid of... I would never get rid of my year books. They hold precious memories for me that I relive every high school reunion.
Oh my goodness, I’m watching this for years after the fact but I saw Ellie for the first time! I would love for you to post a picture of all your kids all together. She’s adorable! I’m so glad I got to put a name to the face… Or is it a face to the name? Anyway Ellie you’re adorable
Thank you for saying that. I have tried her method so.mahy times and always felt like a failure. My husband is disabled and I do all the housework and office job and it just was too much. Thank you for your tips
Just listened to this while tidying up and reorganizing my bathroom, and got rid of a whole lot of unused, out of date and half empty toiletries. Now the bathroom cabinets aren't bursting at the seams! And actually look half-empty!
When we downsized my mother so she could move into a senior's apartment, there was no market for her household goods. Young people today live in smaller houses - they do NOT have space for grandma's sideboard or bureau. They don't want real silver that needs to be polished before every use, or fine china that has to be hand washed. A rule from "Trading Spaces" - keeping mementos in a box where you don't look at them for 20 years is dishonoring the memories. Put them on display or get rid of them. You don't own junk. Junk owns you.
If you hold on to pictures or documents just because, scan them into the computer and then you can send them to close and distant family members before you throw them away. I research family history and was so sad when an Aunt who wasn’t blood related to our family (they were her husband’s family and he passed away) threw away a lot of my Grandparents history. You may not want it, but distant family members might.
I agree, I did the scanning and sent disks to all the cousins that wanted them. I believe in sharing. It's a shame that people keep photos like they are hoarding gold.... I want all the branches of the family to have the photos. I even started a family FB page so that I can share genealogy with family that is interested. My S-I-L took some photos that I was working with my Mom to ID and date - S-I-L went through some of them and mailed them off to the people in the picture BEFORE I got a chance to scan them. They weren't her pictures to distribute!!!! ugh
i have told my kids to pick what they wanted when i am gone then put free contents and people will take it all we know someone who did this it worked great
For me to declutter, the best was the pictures..things I wanted to hold dear( mom died when was young) there so many ways to store pictures..plus easy to share
Are those Mami & Papi's somehow still available??? I love Jill!!! I'm watching all your all old videos! I have a Mami cookie jar and she's my favorite one. I would love to see what you have
If you just want to get rid of stuff fill up a box or 2 throw it in your truck and take it to goodwill. They don't ask questions they just take it. super easy super fast. I cleared out alot of stuff last year doing this.
My daughter had so much toys and I hated picking them up every day. So one day I snapped and got rid of so many. Now she has one box and if all the toys don't fit than something has to go.........made my life so much easier lol.....
When my daughter was little, I had a rule - no more than 2 multi-piece toys at a time. If she wanted to play with something else, we packed up all the bits and pieces and put the box back on the shelf. Then she could pick something else. There wasn't a time limit or limit on how many times she could change toys - just the rule of putting something away before playing with something else. Worked great - now she is more organized than I am!
I so love your channel. I've just watched this video. I cannot think of anyone better suited to talk on being frugal and decluttering than you and your mother. I have much respect for you both. Earlier today I watched your video on confronting rumors about your mom, brother and you being shunned by the church family. Unfortunately, I am not surprised. I have witnessed this myself. I am very sorry for the betrayal you experienced. Yahweh has totally used that to mold you to be more like him.
Mike - is there an episode that explains your saga with your parents? I have always heard bits and pieces but would really like to hear how this sad mess came about.
ive gotten rid of a friends letters, and one day she told me she saved all hers and i felt so guilty i never told her , so if she finds out i hope she will forgive me, but i just couldnt keep it all ,yet i kept letters from my grandmother. and letters from family members. i guess i felt the family stuff is more part of family history especially my letters from my grandmother. my mom kept lots of my school stuff and just in bins and baskets so i took matters into my own hands and dug through them to keep what i wanted and scrapbooked it.
I can't seem to make my screen work to reply- I volunteer at food pantry so in town and have heard from ex-employees. No raises, ever, no hours, bad conditions. Could have just been their experience or our town:/
Does your budget book include if you have to pay for a lot of meds too? I want to get the book because I live on disability and get a very small check, but my medical copays and meds take up a lot of my money.
I was reading about a lady who was writing about not giving lot's of gifts at Christmas, she and her neighbor exchanged a small gift, she received a jar of jam, and I can't remember what she gave her neighbor, besides a hug.
Although, I need to have dishes done-my mother in law told me twenty years ago to start in rooms that get used the least. Reason being-for example, the kitchen you always seem to have something to do, and so on. My thing is tables & counters. I am the type that hates anything on my counters or table (aside from centerpiece maybe) including small appliances. My kids are always putting stuff in these areas. Drives me crazy.
I’ve been slowly going through stuff so in the last 4 months I gotten rid of 6 trash bags full and a crock pot and a blonder oh and throw away 2 big trash bags full of old shoes lol I have 8 kids 1 on they way and I was trying to save everything
How I started was I was looking at something in the kitchen I don’t use that then I changed my room with the girls room and when I did I got rid of stuff I didn’t see in my room for years and going throw the girls stuff something s they never wore or used I got rid of it and it’s a little at a time but I look a my house and see what I’ve done the first little pit look like I did nothing lol but now it’s like man I’ve done a lot lol and got more to go lol
I wonder myself why I always want to do laundry when I clean. Most times it is because the washing machine is so close to the hot water heater. Once the water is getting hot then it is much faster to get hot water to the kitchen sink. ha ha so there is a little bit of logic to my madness. This area is often under water bans.
Hi I am thinking of getting rid of our Christmas tree because the lights quit working so we was just going get rid of it so we don't have to store it for a year and also our Christmas tree ornaments
Looking at your daily, weekly and detailed lists of cleaning can you give me an example of how you would use these. I work full time and am struggling. I’m familiar with flylady but never seem to make it to the zone part which is like your detailed cleaning. I just need another perspective because a person can get down on themself. Thank you
my rule touch things once when cleaning but i have seen people pick up a paper for example set it on table they pick it up and set it on counter always in your cleaning way touch it once means pick it up toss it or put away
Oh, Lord. I'm the second type. But atleast I'm flexible about trying to think about possibly, maybe, making time in my schedule to be open-minded about planning to change a little, at some point, if it works for me.😝

Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (just google it)? My sister said they had a Christmas white elephant Yankee swap. No new gifts, they had to be something from your home. It was a great hit.
I took you along with me, on my iPad, and I listened to you while actually DID my organizing. You helped me so much because I stayed totally FOCUSED !!!!!!! Thank you❣️
Thanks for all the value you give to others by sharing!!!
Thank you for being on you tube. I was raised in a frugal home. My mother made a lot of our clothes growing up. We did a lot of the things that you talk about. It doesn’t have to be brand new to be enjoyable.Happy New Year. Paula Cox
I love y'all 💝 Thank you for your discussion on "negative memories" and letting go of items.
Yes, I hate holding onto things just because I "should". If it brings negative feelings or I don't even want it, definitely not keeping.
Every time I listen to you two, as a wife of 5 and Nana of 15, I pick up some wonderful new ideas! Thank you for sharing...
Flylady has changed my life. And so has your cookbook!! My fav You tubers !!
I am grateful for your expertise and friendliness
Was watching this while decluttering and found $100 cash!! Thanks for helping me declutter!
YOIU ARE A BLESSING!!!
my 89 year old dad who walks with a walker still makes his bed every morning "my mother would be happy to know that I still make my bed"
Nancy Coy Aww, that's sweet.💕
(PS.

Rose Marie Morton I am also not collecting anything. I love traveling and shopping for food in bulk. I basically don’t buy anything else...
I collect dollars in my bank accounts

Good advice about getting things done
Keeping things neat is so hard for me. I have realized I have too much but as crazy as it sounds I don’t know what to keep or what to get rid of... I would never get rid of my year books. They hold precious memories for me that I relive every high school reunion.
@Jill: AMEN to the jar labels!!!
so glad I found y'all!

We need to hear Michael’s story.......
Thank you for saying that. I have tried her method so.mahy times and always felt like a failure. My husband is disabled and I do all the housework and office job and it just was too much. Thank you for your tips
Love the way you all sing Happy Birthday wow
Miss Tyra you are ruthless. But you are great thank you so much for always keeping it real and honest

Hello beautiful Family from Texas :)
Some really good advice here. Thanks.
8:50 They actually start talking about the topic
If you hold on to pictures or documents just because, scan them into the computer and then you can send them to close and distant family members before you throw them away. I research family history and was so sad when an Aunt who wasn’t blood related to our family (they were her husband’s family and he passed away) threw away a lot of my Grandparents history. You may not want it, but distant family members might.

My S-I-L took some photos that I was working with my Mom to ID and date - S-I-L went through some of them and mailed them off to the people in the picture BEFORE I got a chance to scan them. They weren't her pictures to distribute!!!! ugh
I don't do well with blue screen so I prefer books instead of e-books.. thank you
Thanks for the advice you all look good like that purple tops on Tarwra, and hubby, Jill’s sweater checkered 👗
i have told my kids to pick what they wanted when i am gone then put free contents and people will take it all we know someone who did this it worked great
Say no to sentimental clutter. This is something I also had to learn. Just to keep the things I had a connection with. It's defi Italy hard to do!
Thank all of you for the great tips!!! Love your presents!!! Sorry I missed it live....God bless!!!
Hi guys glad my lil gift got there lol
For me to declutter, the best was the pictures..things I wanted to hold dear( mom died when was young) there so many ways to store pictures..plus easy to share
Flylady changed my life, but now I don't need her anymore. When I was with her I changed things to suit me anyway.
Your hilarious! I tell myself that.."gotta get it together people "! Hahaaa yessss.. I'm starting to talk to myself now. LOL
I sometimes put things on the curb with a free sign and off they go (unless they are a tube tv lol)
Way to go on your ice skates Elley, you've learned well. I've learned over the years, don't procrastinate.
I love you Jill! hahhahaaa
I love y'all....but I love Flylady too.....don't hate me...I just need all the help I can get.....LOL
linda stokes I like her as well!
Love this video is so helpful
A good channel
No he hasn't shared the story yet.
Well god gave u a amazing immediate family and I'm sure mike appreciates each of you so much more because of his experiences. God bless
ive gotten rid of a friends letters, and one day she told me she saved all hers and i felt so guilty i never told her , so if she finds out i hope she will forgive me, but i just couldnt keep it all ,yet i kept letters from my grandmother. and letters from family members. i guess i felt the family stuff is more part of family history especially my letters from my grandmother. my mom kept lots of my school stuff and just in bins and baskets so i took matters into my own hands and dug through them to keep what i wanted and scrapbooked it.
I love you, Jill! Carded at the thrift store for your senior discount!
I like to say, this hair didn't come from a bottle!
Love your family, PLEASE stop saying Goodwill! They are not a charity anymore!
Not true, please check Snopes before believing internet un-truths about GoodWill.
Goodwill dose good work help with jobs and stuff but I can’t afford to shop there anymore lol
shannon martinez yeah, last time I went there they overcharged me and their prices were too close to retail anyway.
I can't seem to make my screen work to reply- I volunteer at food pantry so in town and have heard from ex-employees. No raises, ever, no hours, bad conditions. Could have just been their experience or our town:/
I loved this video. I hate clutter. I wish my husband would clean out the garage. He says that he needs to but he never does.
i go thru a deep cleaning and clean out before winter weird time of yr to do my spring cleaning
becky shook me too I always called it Fall clean up!
Idk why it has to be in spring! Who came up with that? I say clean whenever! :)
Her system is whatever works for YOU!
I would love to hear mikes story
NEW SUBSCRIBER!
I just keep thinking "balance"is the key word! Too much of anything is not a good thing! Collections or not!
Also you are so funny today! Thank you for making a serious issue light hearted!
Hi I am thinking of getting rid of our Christmas tree because the lights quit working so we was just going get rid of it so we don't have to store it for a year and also our Christmas tree ornaments
please think donate, or as suggested sit it out with a free sign
Pat Hutto yes we will donate it. That would be a good idea
Looking at your daily, weekly and detailed lists of cleaning can you give me an example of how you would use these. I work full time and am struggling. I’m familiar with flylady but never seem to make it to the zone part which is like your detailed cleaning. I just need another perspective because a person can get down on themself. Thank you
Thank you!! I have had a very hard time and felt defeated trying to use the fly lady method !
Yeah if she works for you great but she about drove me nuts!
Not for me 👎
my rule touch things once when cleaning but i have seen people pick up a paper for example set it on table they pick it up and set it on counter always in your cleaning way touch it once means pick it up toss it or put away
You can take a picture of whatever you are emotionally attached and then throw it
I loose lists all the time, as soon as I write them, I try make picture on the phone.
Way to go with those skates Ellie. Definitely meant to be yours. Good luck.
Oh, Lord. I'm the second type. But atleast I'm flexible about trying to think about possibly, maybe, making time in my schedule to be open-minded about planning to change a little, at some point, if it works for me.😝
