God i enjoyed this! I would have to say this has been my favourite interview you have done yet! thankyou for this. I have really been waiting out for an episode on male pattern baldness and your opinions on it. More curious about it maybe then others as nobody else in my family has it, and i worry if its just simply a nutrition deficiency, an inflammatory issue, an autoimmune disease or if its just a factor of life and nothing to worry about. (i have never taken any anti biotics or used any type of pharmaceutical treatments, and am also in my mid 20s) thanks again!

I am a type 2 diabetic, I have High blood pressure, high cholesterol. I fasted for 7 days drinking only Distilled water. In those days I felt so much energy and so much clarity.I felt my brain literally recharging and getting rid of all the gunk I had accumulated. After I finished my fast my first meal was homemade chicken feet broth for a few days. Then Slowly introduced veggies, fruits and meats back into my diet. It is possible to change your lifestyle and want better for yourself. This Man is right the Human Body is Stronger than we think. I went to see my Dr. to check my levels. My Diabetes A1c is down from 9.5 to 6. My Blood pressure and Cholesterol are very low. This change in my eating is doing good for my body. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to change the way they feel and look.

Hi Ama..I cured my type 2 diabeties on Keto. I believe the next step for you is to limit fruit to selected berries. Listen to Dr Gundry about the impact of fructose how bad it is, many dark berries have very low levels of fructose. Follow this and your A1C will likely get to 5 is where you need to be your health will improve even more and you will likely be free of Diabeties for ever and better still come off all medications. I also recommend you watch Beat Diabeties on Y tube. Dennis has a lot of great stuff. Good luck..Grant from New Zealand

I would like to add one point.... There are those that are not losing any weight on Keto.... And the reason is that even though they are eating only 5% carbs and mostly oils and fats, they are still eating a bit too much. Thus, having a calorie deficit is still very important to get our body to start burning it's own fat... Counting calories and eating less is still pretty necessary...

Dr. Gundry, thank you for this podcast it was fascinating. I have two questions maybe you could address in the future. I had a total hip replacement 6 months ago and I'm getting ready for my first dental appointment since the surgery. My surgeon said I will need to take prophylactic antibiotics before every dental appointment for the rest of my life. I'm freaking out about taking antibiotics so often, can you reassure me that this is necessary? My second question is not about what I put in my body but what I put on my body. As a female I'm worried about wrinkles and age spots etc. etc. but I'm worried about anti-aging creams, lotions, and potions. What does Mrs. Gundry do for her skin routine? I'm following a whole food plant based diet and have been since doing a year of 5:2 fasting back in 2012. What I have got really tired of is the tendency for the plant based movement to disrespect the keto followers and vice versa. It's like the different denominations of, say. Christianity doing there best to create divisions where they don't need to exist. Going to the produce isle of the supermarket and giving up Junk Carbohydrates is exactly what I do. By following no added fat, I have made myself very insulin sensitive. My body doesn't need to use much insulin to keep my system in check. The Keto person has done the same with fat. I'm going on 57 and had a recent blood test and everything looks really good...which is encouraging as I've not had one before in recent times. I think we know instinctively what to avoid and then it comes down to how you fashion a natural diet to your particular system. A universal, definitive theory is probably impossible, but a universal feeling of good health is very possible and necessary. Thanks for the really interesting interview.

    • @sportysbusiness

The problem is that you got a 'good' blood results from a flawed medical system that has no idea what correct blood results actually are. Just look at the cholesterol lies, for example. If you have low cholesterol your doctor will be happy but your body will not.

Then of course, Eat only twice every 24 hours, ànd, once a week don't eat at all for 24 straight hours.
    And just WALK.

I watched a video recently, by a medical doctor, who said that “keto flu” is simply due to hyponatrenia (abnormally low plasma sodium), because when starting a ketogenic diet, the kidneys temporarily increase sodium excretion. So increasing salt intake while adapting should fix the problem. I have forgotten the medic’s name....

Good point, I pissed 5 and 6 times a day when I started Leto. Lost a lot of weight and water weight. Holy hell , I mean I was also drinking coffee with butter/cream. But seriously lost a lot of weight . Now pretty close to ideal weight and all my clothes fit . Some honestly are too big now.

Corn masa in Mexico is treated with lime, always has, except in countries that don't know what they're doing. It's another Moctezumas revenge type of food if not treated properly.

Really enjoyed it, but was put off by the focus on weight gain as a unit of measure of health, and the overestimation of required amounts of protein and calories. There are, according to you and others Dr., edible things - that should be completely avoided for reasons of longevity and a long healthspan. Combust these thing metabolically or not - the cumulative negative effects remain. So, other than that - very interesting and, you got me, I'm going to check out his recent book.

This was an extremely interesting interview. He explains so much. If you are into becoming metabolically flexible like me, he explains it.
So many TH-camrs when they have carbs or sugar say they feel like crud, to learn that means they are not metabolically flexible explains it so much to me. I always wondered why when I eat carbs or pretty much what I am in the mood to eat that I do not feel lousy. It's an amazing thing to think I am becoming metabolically flexible.
My new health journey started after going into surgical menopause in 2015 and no matter how many calories I cut or how hard I exercised, the scale went up. One summer I just did a beachbody workout called PiYo. For the first time, doing an extremely short workout and not running, HIIT, P90X or Insanity, the scale stopped going up. The things I have learned and done since 2017 has been amazing. It's a long story but I started by eliminating grains, processed food, and sugar. Dairy kills my gut too but I eat eggs
I pretty much can eat what I want, when I want it (besides grains and dair). I love grainy seedy dark brown breads but they do not like me. I love cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, cream but they dont like me. Lol.
I eat low carb, high fat, moderate protein most days. Some days I eat a lot, some days not so much. Sometimes I crave carbs some days not. It is freeing to not be ruled by food. I eat food as fuel and nutrition for my body.
    Thank you for this interview.

It was ultra-runner Scott Jurek, who first convinced me to adopt a plant-based diet.
I remembered him from the late 90s, when he was featured in the magazine, "Marathon & Beyond', after winning the Western States, a couple of times. After winning it 7 straight times in a row, he wrote the book, 'Eat & Run'.

My experience is that if I consume olive oil and other fats everyday I start gaining weight. Oil and fats are super high in calories compared to vegetables like lettuce and spinach. Another argument against eating oils and fats everyday is that your body stores the same oil and fat molecules under your skin so you don't need to keep consuming them. If you're overweight you probably already have a supply under your skin.

Not everyone is trying to lose weight. Wish the topic of keto wasn't such a one-sided discussion. If I lost anymore weight I would lose my period. Keto gave me terrible GERD. I had to re-introduce carbs. It's not for everyone. I'm disappointed it didn't agree with me.
