Hi Deiter, Our units detect the incoming chords and create harmony from a combination of that and your lead vocal note, so there's no need to adjust anything when playing a 1/2 step down. The unit will simply "hear" an Eb instead of an E, for example. Everything will work just the same as it would with standard tuning.
Excellent video Tom, I just got one of these and have been dying to give it a try, but wanted to watch some vids about it first and yours was the first one I found after searching for this pedal, I may not watch anymore after this excellent demo you've given and just jump right in and start playing around with it. Thank you Tom!
Hi John, the guitar signal passes through the Harmony Singer on the way to the amp. We look at the incoming dry/clean chord information to work out the harmonies and the signal moves right along to your guitar pedals/amp.
Hi David, I'd think of the H. Singer as an even smaller and simpler G-XT. The sounds are both of the same quality, but there's presets and some other options in the G-XT that the harmony singer doesn't have. It's more intended to chuck down on the floor and get a great harmony whenever you want it, with minimal setup.
Heya Michael, You could do either. It's up to you to tune the guitar itself, so the placement of the tuner only matters if the pedal before it would somehow affect the sound. Harmony Singer doesn't change the guitar sound, so the tuner will "hear" it the same in either setup.
Hi Nicky, Yep. The caveat is that the mix of the particular track will determine how well the chord tracking works. The better the unit can "hear" clear chords (root+3rd+5th etc.) the better it will work.
Hi Dexter, All of our pedals in this form factor offer +24V phantom power. The Rode may require +48. If that's the case, then you'd need an external +48 phantom supply.
Hi Dexter, You can definitely use a wireless mic. Typically, the mic receiver will have an xlr output, which you could run into the Harmony Singer's XLR input. Just watch the gain staging. You'll need to make sure that the signal coming from your receiver doesn't overload the H. Singer's input. You want to see green/yellow LED almost all the time when you sing, but never red.
Yep absolutely you can use an acoustic guitar. That said, H. Singer doesn't provide processing, so it can't boost the level. We just read the incoming chords and send the signal on its way down the line.
For a keyboard with MIDI out, you should get the Harmony M for superior MIDI chord tracking, stereo output, more control of harmony and effect settings, and 10 programmable presets. It's not quite as small as this pedal but still quite compact. I use 2 Harmony M units on gids, so the other singer in my band can provide 3 part harmony behind me based on my keyboard playing. Love my TC-Helicon!
Heya Keyboard guys :) You can send keys audio to the Inst IN on the Harmony Singer and have NaturalPlay harmonies that way. Your best bet is to send the most chordal information you can, with no chorus/reverb on the sounds. (That's why we tell guitarists to put the HSinger before any effects.) If you have an output that would only send "left hand" chord stuff, even better.
Thanks Tom!!....I also want to mention that i really liked the sound of you and your band when you were demonstrating the Harmony GXT!!....Sounded Great!!
When you play a minor chord, the unit analyzes both the chord and the note you're singing to determine the appropriate harmony. That's not to say it works in every sing song every written, but it's pretty great at doing its thing.
Thank you for the tips sir.... im holding right now my tc helicon harmony singer just now.. iam excited to use it----keep up the good work make more quiepment innovation......nice mind genuis....the only problem i have was i cannot control while iam praying the guitar the different reverb effects.. so i decided to buy ipad holder which you can resize the grip that will fit in Tc Harmony singer ..much better this way... thank you once again sir
Just ordered one of these babies to beef up my acoustic performance. Looking forward to being able to perform Eagles and Beatles so much better. I'm using this at the next open mike night a the local pub. Hopefully a few jaws are going to drop if it sounds as good as I hope its going to.
hi! my people want to find out for sure and step by asking if the Harmony Singer works well with condenser microphones requiring 48v mic such as that I have I
Hi Hallam, You could run the audio from your keyboard through the Harmony Singer as long as it's got good chordal information in it. If your keyboard has the ability to send 1/2 of the keyboard out one output (I'm thinking left hand for chords) then that would be ideal.
My Harmony Singer will randomly stop in the middle of songs. Tone button is red and the top right light is red and no sound comes out. I don’t know what to do.
This Vocal Harmoniser is despite its size the absolute best thing going for the money. It replicates the harmonies very realistically unlike the Boss VE2 which has more bells and whistles and has 3 storable memory option but horrible vocal reproduction. So Im writing this because I wanted to put it plain and simple. If you're after authentic reproduction simple use and beautiful reverb and eq with the essential common harmonies 3rds 5ths and 4ths harmonies go for it
It's nice to hear that because I've just bought this pedal and now I'm seeing that it has not an octave harmony which I really need. I started to think why I did not buy a Boss VE2, but I have the same impression about unrealistic vocals. Have you played on two of these pedals?
@@Mrpro374 Yes ... the absence of voices in octave is what was missing ... I already used the VE2, but their sounds do not sound as real as the TC HELICON products ... I already had VOICELIVE PLAY GTX and H1 ... currently I have a VOICELIVE 2 but, due to its size, I get this HARMONY SINGER but I have not received it yet to test ...
Hey Jessica! You do have to plug your guitar in through the pedal, yes. There is a 1/4 inch inupt and output on the sides of the stompbox, and the mic in/out is on the back. The Pedal needs your guitar plugged in so that it can generate harmonies based on the chords you are playing! If your acoustic does not have an amplification system already, a simple pickup will definitely do the trick! Here's a link to more details about the Harmony singer in case you have any more questions:www.tc-helicon.com/Categories/Tchelicon/Vocal/Stompboxes/HARMONY-SINGER-2/p/P0CDA#googtrans(en|en) Thanks for singing with us :)
I just received the unit yesterday and keep in mind, I have an original Harmony G as well. The Harmony Singer was not tracking properly with a drop D tuning song last night and playing a full chord and 3rd below. I am going to sample again tonight and compare against the Harmony G. Also, I find that I have far less headroom with the tone engaged before I get feedback that has to be eq'd out which is counterproductive. Advice?
Hi, great review but Can I plugged and used it with the Helicom Mic Mechanic 2 just with one microphone? I wonder if this harmony singer pedal will rectified or correct me the pitch without using a guitar , as I’m not gonna play guitar , I wanted to use to sing along backing tracks, Thanks
how many cables i need? i believe 3 ?? one for my microphone to the pedal one to my guitar to the pedal and and one to the pedal to my amplifier or consola ..and what kind of cables ??thanks
Es tremendo, a mi me gusta cantar a dúo o trió, pero cuando hay personas que no siguen la secuencia eso crea un poco de😣 pero con este intrumento es fenomenal me encanta, gracias.
Hi guy, look on tc-helicon site for Voicelive play gtx and you'll find what you're searching for, chord or midi controlled, made for guitarists but even for keyboards, not so affordable like the one in the video but not too expensive. Cheers.
Hi MrUnexistential, No it won't work with a bass. We need chord based information and (typically) bass players are playing one or a couple of notes a time. That said, there's no reason your guitar player or keyboard player can't run in/thru this pedal to guide the harmonies and still have you sing/control it.
1) Does the Harmony Singer queue off the actual guitar notes in the 3rd and 5th positions, or does it queue off the chord FORM? 2) I know it can read the difference between a third and a minor third, but can it read the difference in a 5th and a diminished 5th, or an augmented 5th ?
AngelAndTheWolf Heya! 1. It looks at the root+3rd+5th and then any other notes it can to determine the chord. Using alternate chord forms does affect what the system does with the harmonies. Sometimes, using an inversion will get you the harmony output you want if the other version of the chord isn't working for you. 2. It can tell the difference between the chords and the out put will vary based on the lead note you're singing and the chord it sees, plus the voice output you've selected. That said, in something like Harmony Singer, you're limited to the guitar detection, whereas in something like VoiceLive 3 you can do custom scale maps for the times when guitar detection isn't giving you the output you want.
Mitchell Edels Momentary mode activates the harmony only when the button is pressed. The default mode is "Latched" which is press on, press off. You can change the button function by holding down the footswitch as you power up the pedal. It will remember which "state" it's in on subsequent power cycles.
Maybe this has been answered and I missed.... I play a lot with guitars all half step down. I currently have the original harmony g and I have to power it down and tune it to the guitar. How did his unit compare in that regard?
This pedal is amazing, very realistic. I think my problem with members of the band who are not eager to sing seems to be solved! I have just two questions. Why haven't you added and octave harmony? What is the song in 6:48?:)
How are splitting the guitar signal to go both to an amp and to the Harmony Singer? Can this be used with a wireless mic, and how is that done? Sounds great!
my friends has one and is incredible ..in live is absolutly amazing but yes or yes you need to play a guitar or your guitar can play for you ..but is amazing pedal so simple abd easy
Why can't I find a video demo of the change in harmony from a single vocal note changing from the guitar input? Like a singer holding out a single note while the guitar moves through different chords where the harmonies change.....
Great presentation Tom. I have a question though. I love the products, I have both the mic mechanic 2 and the vocal harmony 2. My question is can they be used in tandem? Would I just jump from mic out to mic in from unit to unit? I know VH2 uses guitar to control harmony and the Mic mechanic doesn’t. So if you could suggest how I might use both pedals in a chain? Thanks so much! Tony T.
Yes, you can use it in tandem. Option 1: first pedal is Mic Mechanic 2 (ECHO off, REVERB off, CORRECTION on/off, TONE on/off), second pedal is Harmony Singer 2 (TONE off). Option 2: first pedal is Harmony Singer 2 (REVERB off, TONE on/off), second pedal is Mic Mechanic 2 (CORRECTION off, TONE off).
Is it OK to use an acoustic guitar preamp after the Harmony Singer? I have a passive soundhole pickup (Fishman) fitted to my guitar and it has a low output. I want to achieve a volume boost. Amp is a Roland AC33. Hope these are not dumb questions.
Is having a line out to a pa a must to have the pedal work? Or can you use it just by going through your amp? Or even by having an XLR to 1/4 inch jack cable to a separate amp?
Help ! ... I turned on my T/C Helicon Harmony Singer (Blue Box) and the vocal part doesn't work anymore. The guitar plays through it fine but dead silence on the vocal. The only thing I know wrong is the little mike button on the right is gone, but it fell apart months ago and I'm pretty sure it has worked ok without it (I could be wrong). Inside the T/C where the 'button housing' box is/was, there are only the 6 terminals sticking up. So I have a couple questions; (1) Do I need the mike button for the TC Harmony Singer to work? ... and if so, ... (2) can I jumper across a couple of the 6 terminals to permanently lock it in the 'non-mike' mode ? (I don't even have the controlable mike) ... and if so, ... (3) which terminals do I jumper? Many thanks in advance
I have used a Harmony Singer for sometime now with great success. However as of late I get a lot of static. I have traced the problem to the Harmonizer. I used the ground lift but to no avail. Can the instrument in and out connections be cleaned with DeoxIT ? DeoxIT improves electronic connections. I have used DeoxIT on my mixer when it made static and the problem cleared up. Please contact me asap as I have lots of gigs lined up.
OK, let me try this: 1) If I play a "C", "E", and "G" chord, and sing a "D", will the vocal output be my "D", plus an "E" and" G" harmony, or will it be my "D", plus an "Gb", and an "A"? 2) Is it possible to choose ONE major chord, and ONE minor chord, and use those two for any molody harmonies, or does the pedal need the appropriately pitched major chord? 3) I have an autoharp I'm considering turning into a single key six chord form (Major, Minor, Sus 2, Sus 4, Augmented, Diminished) non-through controller for A Cappella harmonies. Does the pedal consider actual pitches, or just intervals?
AngelAndTheWolf Here's a link to our scale chart. It might give you some insight into how the output decisions are made. support.tc-helicon.com/entries/21051886-Scale-chart-for-TC-Helicon-products
TC-Helicon OK, I think the answer is "I need to play the triads in the proper key to get the proper response. The unit looks at more than just the intervals." Thanks, Tom
Very good review. Simply explained and a cool, easy presentation. The unit has quite a few features with not too many buttons and knobs. Can you have separate foot-switch? that way the unit can reached and make changes without bending down to the floor. Parraboy
+guy douglas We don't have a jack for an external footswitch, but if you're handy with solder I can unofficially suggest that you could replace the footswitch in the unit with a TRS jack and then use a TRS cable to go to an external box with a switch in it. You could even just re-use the switch from the unit and build a small box yourself.... theoretically speaking of course (warranty would be voided)
Great little piece of equipment for the vocalist, however it would be helpful if a demo could show how to use a wireless ear monitor system with the Harmony !
musoman For wireless IEM's, your simplest way to set up would be to use whatever mix you currently do and simply add the Harmony Singer to your signal path on the way to the mixer.
TC-Helicon Hi and thanks for your advice, however, as yet, I do not possess IEm's and I am a little unsure as to how the cable connections would work between the transmitter/receiver and the HS if it was to be included in the mix. Also, is it the case of having to use a mixer?
Hi mate, thanks for the demo. One question : The pedal nevers makes wrong notes? I mean u told she generates thirds, how can she know if the third in this song is minor or major?
Hi. Nice toy! Do you know if it works well with "Jazz harmonies" like b5, #9, etc.? I'm starting a duo project and that would be a cool add-on to the show :) Thanks!
marco maria colombo The voicings depend on the chord input but are definitely more parallel/pop oriented than Jazz focused. Our Jazz users typically get something that can allow for user defined custom scales like a VoiceLive 2/3 or Rack.
+Jeroen Janssen We always recommend putting it first in the signal chain so that the HS gets the clearest chords it can, then passes the signal to the rest of your path. It's a buffered bypass itself.
I seen a video of this unit being used without the power cord in it as if there is a way to use it waith a battery. I have this unit but cant figure out where there is a place to use it with a battery. Can someone please tell me if and where the battery goes on this
+DAMIEN GUNN We need chord information to create harmonies correctly. A bass doesn't often play chords, so it's not that great for it. I'd try an H1 where you can set the key/scale manually, though you'd have to do it per-song. VoiceLive Play would probably be a better bet.
I think the only thing this needs is a dedicated talk mode button so you can play in momentary mode while being able to de-activate the reverb. Regardless, it's a great tool for a singer and guitarist.
Step 1: Connect the guitar output to the "INST IN" input of the TC-Helicon Harmony 2. Step 2: connect the TC-Helicon Harmony 2 "INST THRU" output to the input of the first guitar effect pedal (if you don't have a guitar effect pedal, connect it to the input of the guitar amplifier). The INST THRU is a buffered bypass and doesn't affect the guitar signal in any way.
Does the guitar have to go out the Thru? If, like on the Voicelive 2, you want both signals to go out of the Main Out, can you do that with this pedal, or do you have to go Thru?
Can i just connect my mic to the Harmony singer, and then connect to my mixer and just sing without guitar to get harmony for my song. I will have the mp3 player connected to the mixer and play. Please advise. thanks,
Hi guys, does this effects require to have an instrument plugged in to it? hope you guys could reply. im thinking if i could use this w/ my band. im on lead vocals none of my bandmates seem to like doing the 2nd voice/harmony thing so im thinking of options how to get that harmony i've been looking for w/ an old band i play with..
Hi everyone. i bought Harmony Singer 3 months ago from U.A.E. i've used it 3 times only. All this time the device was stored at home in good conditions.yesterday i've connected it..& unwanted noise started ...i push ground lift button..no use.all wires is new.Mixer is new.i've tried to do it in several mixers,speakers..with same result (noise) Any advises ? thanks
Hi, I´ll buy a VoiceLive Play GTX or Harmony Singer, but I'm in doubt. I want to use my pedals with my guitar and VoiceLive Play GTX only to my voice. Could this feature "VoiceLive Play GTX listens to the Guitar input to set key automatically" still work to my voice?
The most precise short and thorough presentation , ever. Congratulations !
Hi Deiter,
Our units detect the incoming chords and create harmony from a combination of that and your lead vocal note, so there's no need to adjust anything when playing a 1/2 step down. The unit will simply "hear" an Eb instead of an E, for example. Everything will work just the same as it would with standard tuning.
Excellent video Tom, I just got one of these and have been dying to give it a try, but wanted to watch some vids about it first and yours was the first one I found after searching for this pedal, I may not watch anymore after this excellent demo you've given and just jump right in and start playing around with it. seriously this is the best demo of this pedal ive seen so far
Tom Lang is TC Helicon's best sales person and it's not even close. Great video even 11 years later. Convinced me to purchase!
I caught a local act the other night and the guitar player was using this for back up vocals and he sounded good. Real thick and nice tone
@@ponzo1967 I've had my pedal for about 4 weeks already and it has c o m p l e t e l y changed my set. Absolute game changer!

Hi John, the guitar signal passes through the Harmony Singer on the way to the amp. We look at the incoming dry/clean chord information to work out the harmonies and the signal moves right along to your guitar pedals/amp.
Amazing Pedal. Awesome demo. Looking forward to getting one of these.
Awesome! Let us know what you think when you get one.
Hi David,
I'd think of the H. Singer as an even smaller and simpler G-XT. The sounds are both of the same quality, but there's presets and some other options in the G-XT that the harmony singer doesn't have. It's more intended to chuck down on the floor and get a great harmony whenever you want it, with minimal setup.
Heya Michael,
You could do either. It's up to you to tune the guitar itself, so the placement of the tuner only matters if the pedal before it would somehow affect the sound. Harmony Singer doesn't change the guitar sound, so the tuner will "hear" it the same in either setup.
Hi Nicky,
Yep. The caveat is that the mix of the particular track will determine how well the chord tracking works. The better the unit can "hear" clear chords (root+3rd+5th etc.) the better it will work.
This video is very comprehensible for the foreigner such as me Japanese, Highly appreciated.
Hi Jose,
No, you need 12V to power the preamp and other electronics in the pedal. That's also why we don't offer battery power...yet.
Hi Dexter,
All of our pedals in this form factor offer +24V phantom power. The Rode may require +48. If that's the case, then you'd need an external +48 phantom supply.
Thank you so much Tom for the video, so well explained , I just bought the pedal and i can not wait to receive it and use it live. GREAT !!!

You can definitely use a wireless mic.
What happens when you see red out what does it mean
Yep sure can. There's a Mic Control button on the side, just like the Mic Mechanic you have. It'll work with an MP-75 or Sennheiser e 835 fx.
Yep absolutely you can use an acoustic guitar. That said, H. Singer doesn't provide processing, so it can't boost the level. We just read the incoming chords and send the signal on its way down the line.
I've used this pedal at gigs and at rehearsal. Fantastic! Simple to use and sounds great.
Amazing! It's really a very nice voice pedal. I'm gonna buy it.
For a keyboard with MIDI out, you should get the Harmony M for superior MIDI chord tracking, stereo output, more control of harmony and effect settings, and 10 programmable presets. hi! my people want to find out for sure and step by asking if the Harmony Singer works well with condenser microphones requiring 48v mic such as that I have I
HI Randy,
The Harmony Singer doesn't create any guitar audio or processing, so you can't get audio out the Mic out.
Very well explained & demo'd Tom, thanks John.
There's no doubling on this pedal. For dedicated Doubling, I'd check out the VoiceTone D1.
It should be available in North America by early May. Check with your dealer for details :)

Any chance you guys could add the momentary harmony switch in a firmware update to the Harmony G-XT?
Help !
Here the question? Can I use this live with my rock cover band on stage? I'm hearing that it is very iffy with loud volume on stage.
Thank you so much for nice explanation!!!
OK, let me try this:
1) If I play a "C", "E", and "G" chord, and sing a "D", will the vocal output be my "D", plus an "E" and" G" harmony, or will it be my "D", plus an "Gb", and an "A"?
2) Is it possible to choose ONE major chord, and ONE minor chord, and use those two for any molody harmonies, or does the pedal need the appropriately pitched major chord?
3) I have an autoharp I'm considering turning into a single key six chord form
(Major, Minor, Sus 2, Sus 4, Augmented, Diminished) non-through controller for
A Cappella harmonies. Does the pedal consider actual pitches, or just intervals?
AngelAndTheWolf Here's a link to our scale chart. It might give you some insight into how the output decisions are made.

TC-Helicon OK, I think the answer is "I need to play the triads in the proper key to get the proper response. The unit looks at more than just the intervals." Thanks, Tom
Thanks Chris!
I mean u told she generates thirds, how can she know if the third in this song is minor or major?
i do like those harmonies :3
wish you guys would make a harmoney/hardtune effect thing that is midi controlled.
Hi.
Our Jazz users typically get something that can allow for user defined custom scales like a VoiceLive 2/3 or Rack.
is this equipment can i use wireless mic instead of TC Helicon MP-75 Dynamic Vocal Mic
thank you i order it already thnks for the bit
Nice machine. Does it matter if I use it after a few (5, some are buffered) other pedals? Though none of which is engaged. except the reverb.
+Jeroen Janssen We always recommend putting it first in the signal chain so that the HS gets the clearest chords it can, then passes the signal to the rest of your path. It's a buffered bypass itself.
Hi, very useful demo. Can I separately adjust the volume of harmony and amount of reverb or does level do both or just reverb.
Do you HAVE to plug your guitar through it in order for this to work?? Or can I just plug my microphone cables into it and use it?
I seen a video of this unit being used without the power cord in it as if there is a way to use it waith a battery. I have this unit but cant figure out where there is a place to use it with a battery. Can someone please tell me if and where the battery goes on this
Hi Tom. great instr. video. Question; Can you use the pedal without a guitar for vocalists who don't play?
My doubts: is it possible to replace some of the factory voices with others, for example, change the 3rd high by a high octave ???
Does the guitar have to be connected, or can it be used without the guitar?
If you do not connect anything to the TC-Helicon Harmony Singer INST IN input, you can only use the vocal Tone and Reverb functions.
CAN IT WORK ON BASS TOO?
+DAMIEN GUNN We need chord information to create harmonies correctly. A bass doesn't often play chords, so it's not that great for it. I'd try an H1 where you can set the key/scale manually, though you'd have to do it per-song. VoiceLive Play would probably be a better bet.
Can I use the harmony singer 2 to double track my voice, I know it can do harmonies obviously but is the option available to just double track?
I think the only thing this needs is a dedicated talk mode button so you can play in momentary mode while being able to de-activate the reverb. Regardless, it's a great tool for a singer and guitarist.
how can i connect my acoustic guitar effects, using with this harmony singer?
Hi. Thanks for the video.. May I ask please, whats the main difference between this and the TC-Helicon VoiceTone H1? Thank you!
All this time the device was stored at home in good conditions.yesterday i've connected it..& unwanted noise started ...i push ground lift button..no use.all wires is new.Mixer is new.i've tried to do it in several mixers,speakers..with same result (noise) Any advises ? thanks
Hi,
I´ll buy a VoiceLive Play GTX or Harmony Singer, but I'm in doubt.
I want to use my pedals with my guitar and VoiceLive Play GTX only to my voice. Could this feature "VoiceLive Play GTX listens to the Guitar input to set key automatically" still work to my voice?
