    Just did my transmission fluid using Valvoline Synchromesh for my Getrag 5 speed manual. Easy process, took my time. Mine was about 38 oz, but then it overflowed a bit, started dripping and had to keep wiping it for a few minutes until it quit. Easy job. I have a special work environment, I used my garage in floor tornado shelter, which doubles as a maintance bay for working under my car- no jacking required! Worked great for diff fluid and transmission! Thanks for the tutorial Mark! @MomentOfZed

      I wound up purchasing another manual transfer pump for the transmission fluid, different from the on that I used for differential fluid. They are cheap, didn't have to worry about cleaning it.

    A bit of liquid pipe sealant (not tape) on the drain plug threads is good insurance against a leak. After changing the fluid, mine had a very slight leak of maybe a dime-sized spot after a drive that I was able to fix with the sealant. It has never leaked a drop since.

    • @MomentofZed
      @MomentofZed  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mark, did you find you needed to top up the oil after the initial fill? In my automatic transmission fill, I turned on the engine and cycled through the gears and was able to add more fluid.

    My transmission is leaking fluid from the drain plug. Do you think replacing the drain plug would fix it? Any experience with that?

    • @MomentofZed
      @MomentofZed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fortunately i havent had that issue. Did you change the fluid recently? If so is it all the way tightened? Even if you didnt is it all the way tightened? Are the threads clean both sides?

  • @hubertlabio1666

    Hi. How long did that take you? I am not the type who does my own fixing. So I asked my friendly neighborhood BMW independent mechanic to check and replace my transmission oil. He said it is a “time consuming process.” So I want to cross check with you. Thanks. Awesome video as always.

    Now that a year has gone by, how would you describe the results of your choice of fluid for this Transmission fluid change? I am not on my journey of deciding which. I have nothing to really go on except to try and match others and go on their results. I have a 98 2.8 Z3

      Back under the differential. Dead center don't stress the cover. Front under the crossmember, but not the x brace!! See coolcat Terri's channel for a full video.
