  • Founder of the Young Rascals and member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Felix Cavaliere describes his career and the path he took to success: “My mom wanted me to be a classical pianist, and my dad wanted me to be a doctor. I said ‘well, music heals, so maybe that’s what I should do'”.

    The day of my discharge from the Marine’s in the summer of 1969 Norfolk VA, I began my drive home to Massachusetts in my 1964 Chevy Super Sport. When I turned on the radio Beautiful Morning was the first song I heard and after surviving Viet Nam it was a beautiful morning that day.

      I am a 69 year old musician and, honestly, I'm not surprised. He has had healthy habits and hasn't done anything to degrade his voice. My voice at 69 is richer and more nuanced than it was 30 or 50 years ago. And I have greater control. He's a pro and hasn't allowed drugs, booze or cigarettes ruin his intrument.

Congratulations, Felix Cavaliere, on your prowess, your lyricism..your melodies, on the pleasure you brought to so many fans in Australia, and Worldwide. I don't think he ever smoked. Google his name and ''smoke'' after it and you can't find it. Do the same with Paul McCartney or David Bowie and you can find hundreds...yeah it looked cool, but one is dead from smoking and the other can't sing today because of smoking. Lol

    • @TheIvoryman
      @TheIvoryman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@willsomervell8246 the parts he is singing don’t necessarily have anything to due with him loosing vocal range. I’ve been a working, live and studio, musician for more than 50 years, working with groups that focused heavily on vocal harmonies. The parts you heard him sing in this video may very well have been the parts he sang in the original recordings. The higher parts you heard were sometimes harmonies that were done by Eddie Brigatti and Gene Cornish. In well blended harmonies you can’t always tell who is singing which part. You hear a high note and assume it’s the singer who is singing the lead. Your brain tricks you into thinking that. And, at times, Eddie’s voice sounded very close to Felix’s.

    I’m 62 soon to be 63 and I get a magazine and they were in it, and when I heard the story of how Groovin came about, I just couldn’t get the song out of my mind…didn’t even know who sung it!…. It’s been a month now and I still can’t get it out of my head!
    I appreciate art of any kind once I know the story behind it, it creates the complete pic and then you get an idea of what they’re trying to express to the audience.

    " 1, 2, 3 Good Lovin " Love the way he started off that song. Brings you right in. I've been listening to the " Time, Peace " CD the last few weeks and these guys could rock and then they shifted to a more soft rock sound. Very interesting. I can just imagine the record company saying "guys, what are you doing ?" But this change made their greatest selling songs, so there. Take that !! Felix has always been his own man, he's a happy guy I'll bet.

    It was great meeting Felix a few years ago at Phred's... getting that autograph and that first Young Rascals vinyl LP cover signed.... 46 years later. BTW, Felix sure can play a Hammond B3. Awesome!

    Just the opening Beautiful Morning uplifts right away. Then Good Lovin' grooves out. That left hand in Lonely Too Long - amazing. And the left hand on Groovin' intro and the song - wow. Felix had it all right - very intelligent and talented individual. People Gotta Be Free - just hits it here.

    OMG I love this guy to pieces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable talent!!!!! Notice he doesn't do much bass on left hand...but watch his feet. He's used to paying the bass with his foot on that organ he used to use. I wonder if he was ever influenced by Gene Chandler/ He has so much soul.....I just wish they had touched upon who he listened to vocally.
