@@41V4RO SEF has not granted my permanent residency nor restored my wife's citizenship (SEF is a grind). til one of those things happens, it would be incorrect and improper to call myself an immigrant; this would be true no matter my country of origin.

@@ahamadkhan3569 yes, in the cities & the Algarve, that's possible. however, PT gov does offer free classes, as they really want people to speak the language. i have passed the A1 and my wife is taking A2 (for citizenship). we know enough 'português' to get by when shopping, getting our driving license, or traveling to the smaller towns of the Beira Interior or the Alto Alentejo. life in Portugal has been wonderful.

as a lisboeta i've gotta say: amazing video. only 2 things to add tho, 1: it's "bairro alto", not "barrio alto" (bairro=portuguese, barrio=spanish); 2- if anyone wants to try some kind of "multicultural restaurant" in lisbon i would recommend trying out some african food, from the former colonies, cape-verdian food especially is insanely good (and while you will easily find nepalese restaurants throughout the world, these restaurants will be harder to find outside africa or the portuguese big urban centers)

Hey, thanks for checking out the video, really glad you enjoyed! Yes, many people here in the comments have let me know the difference - duly noted for the future. I always try to do my best with correct terms and pronunciation, but with as many languages as I have to pretend to be able to speak on this channel... I do miss things from time to time, haha. And yes - your point on the African food is well-taken! We chose Sanskar because it was ridiculously well-rated (4.9 on Google) and it happened to be close to us on our final night in Lisbon. Next time we're in town, we will absolutely seek out some African fare. Thanks again for watching, and the kind words!

The Lisbon Hack I added in the city of seven (steep) hills last month was to take a cheap tram or 2 Euro Bolt (Uber) UPHILL to one of the 10 - 12 scenic viewpoints, then enjoy our tour/beer/meal/photoshoot, and wander DOWNHILL taking pics back to our central Rossio accommodations. Hi there neighbor (we live in the same area). Finally I see some justice done to this very much underrated city. And above all it’s a great feeling to see someone showing the sights and soul of Lisboa with such authenticity and enthusiasm.
Sometimes all we need it’s just to take the time to learn to appreciate it. The rest, well it might just pop up around the corner
I kind of have a love & hate thing towards the city I chose to call home, over two decades ago, mainly because of how much it has changed over the last 10 years.
At a moment I thought it had lost it’s soul and and authenticity for good and it had become a victim of its own success
But after watching your video I believe there’s still hope 😅
Thank you for that. Great work 💪🏼

Wow, thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed the episode. You know, it's funny - even though this was our first time going to Lisbon, that was my feeling as well, that it's changed a lot in recent years. It felt a lot more modern and 'big, hip capital city' than we were expecting it to. But like I said in the outro - I don't feel like it's necessarily a bad thing. It feels like a city that's masterfully blending its historic roots with a much more contemporary sensibility. It's a hard thing to do, but I feel they're doing it in style. Thanks so much for watching!

Great video, thanks for showcasing Lisbon. I've subscribed since I like the manner you've organized the video. Not too long and straight to the point.
Fun unrelated fact, last year they were filming an action spy Netflix movie in Baixa around Praça do Comercio! I remember it clearly because I have never seen Lisbon in movies in such a manner, people kept commenting that it was Fast & Furious 10, because all the car action involved. For anyone that may ask, Heart of Stone - with a supposed release date in August 2023, in the preview they released you can clearly see Lisbon in some parts.

Just a tip from a local for next time you stop by: use abundant quantities of olive oil when eating any kind of fish, even more so if its octopus or any of its cousins like squids or whatever. Hell, use it with any food! Where i come from there is even a dish where grilled pork is flavoured with olive oil, garlic and parsley.

Awesome tip, and something we will definitely do next time we're there! I will say - the olive oil anywhere on the Iberian peninsula is unlike anything I've ever tasted in my life. It's a completely different product that you really don't get anywhere in the US - it's rich, bold, peppery and absolutely a condiment in its own right. It blew our minds. You guys really know how to do food properly. Thanks for watching!

When you presented the city of Lisbon, you had the lovely idea of mixing several crucial aspects of the Portuguese culture: not only the views and food but the essence of the Portuguese culture: the "saudade", cultural diversity and the unbreakable connection to the sea. The fado singer had African traits, for example. And even our genetics is related to Africa, among other ethnies you mentioned. If anyone tries to compare us to Spain is wrong. Only Galicia and Portugal have the same roots. By the way, in Portuguese we say "Bairro", not "Barrio", like tne Spaniards do.
