  • This video tutorial describes how to compute Descriptive Statistics in Excel. Most people underestimate the power and use of microsoft Excel for Statistical analysis. Excel can very quickly generate statistics, percentiles and can do variety of statistical tasks in excel including hypothesis testing and running t-tests as well.
    in this video, we compute measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, measures of location such as percentiles. We generate, mean, median, mode, percentiles, Frequency table and also histogram. Using these methods one can summarize the data quickly.

    As someone who struggles with Excel and is very insecure when it comes to data analysis, I can say this video is perfect to understand the basics. Thank you! Also, I love how you embellished the sheet in respect to the people who would hypothetically then read it. The little details make a huge difference. Great video!

    Sir, it's informative one. Thanks. Want to know, can we use this for incremental data ?

    • @CXOLearningAcademy
      @CXOLearningAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For incremental or dynamic data it is always better to use business intelligence package like tableau or power BI. If you want excel, then use data/queries and connection and specify the refresh time setting and use named ranges. but Data Analysis tab is essentially a VB macro. So you have to run it again to generate descriptive statistics. percentiles are formulas so they will get refreshed if you have allowed automatic calculations.

    hello, is it okay if there is another percentile equaled to the median? I had a data and after following your steps, I tried the percentile and the 34% to 55% had the same value

    • @CXOLearningAcademy
      @CXOLearningAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes....but 50th percentile still be equal to median. Let’s understand this through an example. Imagine if all values are equal, in that case min equals maximum and quartile 1, quartile2, quartile 3 and all percentiles are equal. Mean median, mode also will be equal. If 34th percentile and 55 th percentile are equal it means, the sorted array of observations all values in between those records are same for a variable.

    Hello. Thank you soo much. My question is to you is that while computing the frequency table should i assume the starting point of lower bin always 0? or this is only for this particular dataset which you have shown? another question is, after getting the Frequency table if i want to delete Histogram, and only want to keep the Frequency table, will that be possible? Also is it possible to calculate Frequency table for more than one column simultaneously or it should always be separate? Please reply.

    • @CXOLearningAcademy
      @CXOLearningAcademy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The starting bin need not be zero. For e.g if numbers are negative, let’s say we want to count companies which have negative profits, then all our upper and lower bins will be negative. If you do not want histogram, you can uncheck the chart output button. Or else delete it later. Deleting histogram will not delete frequency table. If you want to generate counts for more than one column use frequency formulae in excel rather than the data analysis menu.

      It is likely you are including column header with the data without checking header checkbox in the dialog box. You have to indicate that you have included headers in the data.

    The median value for the Decimal Number for 50% is Different as compared to 50 Percentile eg Median=3.695 and 50 percentile is 3.655 is this possible or am i doing wrong? Thanks

    • @CXOLearningAcademy
      @CXOLearningAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have sufficient observations both numbers must come equal. Median is 50th percentile. However if observations are small then there is small extrapolation approximation involved. You can use percentile.exc or percentile.inc formula to check. One of these values should match median exactly.

      Are you using Mac or windows? If you are using windows, then in excel, Click the File tab, click Options, and then click the Add-Ins category and then click on manage. If you are using Mac, you're using Excel for Mac, in the file menu go to Tools > Excel Add-ins. It is also likely you may be using the earlier version of excel. i am using windows and office 365. in case you cannot still find it, you will find help for previous versions at the following link: support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/load-the-analysis-toolpak-in-excel-6a63e598-cd6d-42e3-9317-6b40ba1a66b4

    what does percentile describes?

    • @CXOLearningAcademy
      @CXOLearningAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If 90 percentile of marks is let's say 60, it means 90 percent of all students have scored less than 60 marks and 10 percent of all students have scored more than 60 marks assuming all numbers are unique. If 20th percentile is 30 marks then 80 percent of all students have scored more than 30 marks and 20 percent have scored less than 30 marks. Median is same as 50th percentile or second Quartile. First Quartile is same as 25th percentile. Percentiles are basically measure of location. Others measues of location are Median, Quartiles and deciles. We can use Percentiles to infer about the shape and skewness of data. It can also identify outliers. For e.g all consumers spending above 95 percentile of spend can be called as premium customers. If the 95th percentile of let's say Walmart customer monthly spend is 1000 dollars, it means 5 percent of Walmart customers spent more than or equal to 1000 dollars and 95 percent of all customers spent less than or equal to 1000 dollars.

      Arrange them in ascending order. -4 to -2 then -2 to 0 and so forth. You have to get the ordering right. Minus 4 is less than minus 2.
