Her hatred of Tump is clouding her vision about Harris. When I said “Harris is the worst thing that could happen to this country,” she responded, “Time will tell.” Unfortunately, I have a very difficult time discussing politics in a calm manner. I know I’m not going to change her mind. Fortunately, I have a lot of friends who agree with me so I can vent to them. I am so worried for our country.

I am a licensed clinical mental health therapist. I've chosen NOT to practice for over two years now, in protest of what has been going on in the mental health field. I've never been for puberty blockers or the consideration of allowing kids to "transition" to the opposite gender. I'm also not in favor of the notion that gender is NOT binary. It absolutely IS binary. Science proved this decades ago! Yet to point out the obvious, and suggest a different form of treatment for these folks who are simply having an identity crisis, is basically career suicide (especially in a liberal state such as WA, where I reside). I feel like the whole world has gone crazy within the last 5 years, and until those entities like the American Psychological Association (APA) come back to reality and reverse their current attitudes on this issue, I will continue to refrain from seeking employment in the mental health field.
Could you help people by simply refusing to treat anybody with "gender dysphobia" or whatever? I know this is not a small problem, but there are tons of people (even myself!) who have much more normal mental health issues unrelated to gender. I respect your decision, just asking.

@@johns7530 unfortunately, if you don’t own your own practice, it’s common in the field to accept nearly all clients that are referred to you by the business that employs you. Family therapy, couples therapy, and working with small children are kind of their own little niches, and in some states, require a separate license to work with certain populations. When I left the field 2 years ago, about half my caseload were teenagers and roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of them had body dysmorphia issues and thought they were trans. It’s such a difficult population to work with, primarily because of how upsetting a child changing their gender is to most parents. Probably 60% of the parents of these confused kids that I worked with simply expected me to “fix their kid” (which in their mind meant “turn them back to the gender they were assigned at birth”). The other 40% of parents were fine with letting their kids dress and identify however they wanted, and were open to the idea of hormone replacement therapy. Not many of them were open to the idea of their child undergoing surgery. I just found it incredibly difficult to be in the middle, when your profession basically expects you to side with kids about being transgender or nonbinary, and parents expect you to “fix” the issue, yet often don’t want to participate in the family sessions necessary to facilitate the changes they seek. At least that was my experience, over a three-four year period.

My friends daughter’s husband use to be a woman. Ever since the transition she has not been able to work because of all the adverse side effects and illnesses. They are exhausted. They don’t tell these kids about all the pain and agony from these multiple major surgeries they need to fully transition. They don’t tell them about a life time of taking pharmaceuticals and side effects. It is cruel. I watched a lot of videos about kids who had this done to them in early teens and how once they matured they realized what a huge life- altering mistake they made. I am Canadian. Friends in Florida have asked me if I would move to the USA. My kneejerk reaction is 'heck ya!'. That got me thinking. I have 25 years of business and university teaching experience. Master degrees. MBA. CFA Charter. Realistically. it would be very difficult for me to move to Florida through the established paths. It would be difficult for me to move to Canada from another country via established paths. But, if I showed up at certain US borders and just walked across then I would be allowed entry. This is true of the Canadian border also. My gut tells me that immigration policy in both countries has tilted away from taking in people that are good for the receiving country and in fact penalize those who 'play by the rules'. I just find that odd and backward thinking.
I have a friend with a sister in Canada. She retired, packed up and planned to move in with her sister. When she got to the border she was turned away, and was prohibited from even visiting her sister for several years. This was about five years ago, so maybe it's changed.
The thing these silly parents (mostly female) seem to not realize when they talk about looking after their children and taking care of them is that they will have no choice but to do so. They will more than likely outlive their children as the chemicals injected into these kids as hormone blockers etc take decades off their life spans. Anything I produce more than I can use from my garden I give to neighbors with young children and people older than me. Why? I know I will get so old someday that I will not be able to keep a garden and that will die alone because I am childless. Many years ago I worked for a government agency attempting to help the people with certain communicable diseases (VD-STD-STI). The CDC went from VD to STD to STI. Somehow a potentially deadly and mostly preventable disease changed its status from "disease" to "infection". Our records showed that 90% of those who were infected were self identified as in what we call today as the LGBT community. At that time our records ( CDC form 9.54) did not use these letters but instead used one code "C-4" which was defined as homosexual (99% male). The infected individuals were coded on these disease reporting forms by job category ( less than 100) and biological sex (90% male). It is interesting that the "H" (homosexual) word today is never used among scientists and researchers. Instead the letters MSM have been substituted. MSM = Men who have Sex with Men. In our epidemiology work it was rare to actually interview a "bisexual" since they almost ways had a preference. Today the word "Trans" implies more than it was then or today. The CDC definition that was used was "Pre-operative Trans" which many of the "bottoms" or "twinks" in the community praised. I never heard of a "Bear" pre-op". Any comments about the colorful language of these individuals about themselves? It may be the same today by those in the community, but never allowed by those not in the community. The "H" word is now like the "N" word. It is just more PC.
Taking extending time off from everything is the only way I stay sane. Every year I take a month off. I am a licensed clinical mental health therapist. I've chosen NOT to practice for over two years now, in protest of what has been going on in the mental health field. I've never been for puberty blockers or the consideration of allowing kids to "transition" to the opposite gender. I'm also not in favor of the notion that gender is NOT binary. It absolutely IS binary. Science proved this decades ago! Yet to point out the obvious, and suggest a different form of treatment for these folks who are simply having an identity crisis, is basically career suicide (especially in a liberal state such as WA, where I reside).
I feel like the whole world has gone crazy within the last 5 years, and until those entities like the American Psychological Association (APA) come back to reality and reverse their current attitudes on this issue, I will continue to refrain from seeking employment in the mental health field.
Could you help people by simply refusing to treat anybody with "gender dysphobia" or whatever? I know this is not a small problem, but there are tons of people (even myself!) who have much more normal mental health issues unrelated to gender. I respect your decision, just asking.

When I was 13 years old I wanted to be a boy, because I thought boys had a better life and my brother was treated better than me ..by my own mother.
It was in my head… for about a year? Thinking back it could’ve been hormones too.. ? I’m very girly and feminine but I had a short hair and looked like a boy a bit too … lol.
Since 15 I never had a short hair and I never felt like a boy or wanted to be one. It came and it was gone…

@@johns7530 unfortunately, if you don’t own your own practice, it’s common in the field to accept nearly all clients that are referred to you by the business that employs you. Family therapy, couples therapy, and working with small children are kind of their own little niches, and in some states, require a separate license to work with certain populations.
When I left the field 2 years ago, about half my caseload were teenagers and roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of them had body dysmorphia issues and thought they were trans. It’s such a difficult population to work with, primarily because of how upsetting a child changing their gender is to most parents. Probably 60% of the parents of these confused kids that I worked with simply expected me to “fix their kid” (which in their mind meant “turn them back to the gender they were assigned at birth”). The other 40% of parents were fine with letting their kids dress and identify however they wanted, and were open to the idea of hormone replacement therapy. Not many of them were open to the idea of their child undergoing surgery. I just found it incredibly difficult to be in the middle, when your profession basically expects you to side with kids about being transgender or nonbinary, and parents expect you to “fix” the issue, yet often don’t want to participate in the family sessions necessary to facilitate the changes they seek. At least that was my experience, over a three-four year period.

I know he is a controversial figure, but RFK Jr actually has a lot of interesting ideas, b/c he knows something has to be going on to cause this. His interview on Joe Rogan's podcast is worth a listen for the first 80-90 minutes. He talks a lot about autism and other things becoming enormously more common now than 40 years ago, which he is undoubtedly correct about. Anyway best to you in your pursuit of happiness and purpose!

My friends daughter’s husband use to be a woman. Ever since the transition she has not been able to work because of all the adverse side effects and illnesses. They are exhausted. They don’t tell these kids about all the pain and agony from these multiple major surgeries they need to fully transition. They don’t tell them about a life time of taking pharmaceuticals and side effects. It is cruel. I watched a lot of videos about kids who had this done to them in early teens and how once they matured they realized what a huge life- altering mistake they made. They tell about the pressure and lies doctors used on them and their parents. It is criminal. Many have great regret bc they will never be the same. It is child abuse what was done to them.

I am Canadian. Friends in Florida have asked me if I would move to the USA. My kneejerk reaction is 'heck ya!'. That got me thinking. I have 25 years of business and university teaching experience. Master degrees. MBA. CFA Charter. Realistically. it would be very difficult for me to move to Florida through the established paths. It would be difficult for me to move to Canada from another country via established paths. But, if I showed up at certain US borders and just walked across then I would be allowed entry. This is true of the Canadian border also. My gut tells me that immigration policy in both countries has tilted away from taking in people that are good for the receiving country and in fact penalize those who 'play by the rules'. I just find that odd and backward thinking.

I have a friend with a sister in Canada. She retired, packed up and planned to move in with her sister. When she got to the border she was turned away, and was prohibited from even visiting her sister for several years. This was about five years ago, so maybe it's changed.

Many years ago I worked for a government agency attempting to help the people with certain communicable diseases (VD-STD-STI). The CDC went from VD to STD to STI. Somehow a potentially deadly and mostly preventable disease changed its status from "disease" to "infection". Our records showed that 90% of those who were infected were self identified as in what we call today as the LGBT community. At that time our records ( CDC form 9.54) did not use these letters but instead used one code "C-4" which was defined as homosexual (99% male). The infected individuals were coded on these disease reporting forms by job category ( less than 100) and biological sex (90% male). It is interesting that the "H" (homosexual) word today is never used among scientists and researchers. Instead the letters MSM have been substituted. MSM = Men who have Sex with Men. In our epidemiology work it was rare to actually interview a "bisexual" since they almost ways had a preference. Today the word "Trans" implies more than it was then or today. The CDC definition that was used was "Pre-operative Trans" which many of the "bottoms" or "twinks" in the community praised. I never heard of a "Bear" pre-op". Any comments about the colorful language of these individuals about themselves? It may be the same today by those in the community, but never allowed by those not in the community. The "H" word is now like the "N" word. It is just more PC.
Taking extending time off from everything is the only way I stay sane. Every year I take a month off. I know it’s not common and is frowned upon by most, mainly because they can’t do it, but it reminds me that life is about me and my happiness and well being and not grinding my way to the end all worn out like an old leather belt.
