      I cringed a little. Then I thought, and, mind ya, I'm not responsible for my thoughts. I dont think about thinking them, they just pop in my noggin without my consent and outside the boundary of things I can control. Anyway, the thought: "Can you guys jerk each other off AFTER the podcast, please?" I pretty much agreed with him too, about the compliments he hj-ed Joe Rogan. And I don't know the context of the prior conversation that this clip was taken from, so maybe it sounded less circle jerk congratulatory than it actually was. Like I said, it was just my brain's unthinking, instant reaction.

It's true that the so called Dunning-Kruger effect exists, and in abundance, especially today with the media, but it's not mandatory to consider yourself dumb if you're smart, and I'd even say it would be hypocritical to say you don't like to be called smart, we all do, smart or dumb, it's just inevitable. In fact there are people that somehow follow an imperative of pretending not to like it and trying to believe, but that's usually just what it is, because deep down they do want to considered smart, and have just known about that same effect.

    Joe is interesting to me because he knows a little bit, about everything. You can discuss anything with him, and he knows when to be a student and when to be the lecturer. He embraces his own knowledge and doesn't go on and on about topics he has no knowledge about, he rather asks questions, listens and learns. He also has the ability catch people off guard when they say something they know they don't mean, or that HE knows is wrong or immoral. Meaning you can't really small talk with him on the podcast, because he will catch it and ask about it, ending with him teaching you a lesson. Watch the podcast with Jon Jones for instance, Jon has had some stuff to deal with in the past year, because of stupid decisions. Joe really cares about Jon's career, and he doesn't let Jon sit there and speak empty words. He will say "Well you can't think that way, 'cause that way of thinking will just drag you down even more" .... - He has that way of being a reasonable ground pillar, that won't take shit. + He's a smart guy, fundamentally. This makes for a good podcast.

      Mikka he's got much better at this over the years. He used to irritate me by talking over/ more than his guests and taking the conversation in boring direction/ digressing when his guest was just about to make an interesting point. He's far better now and listens more than he talks.

    This is an extremely important discussion. I did a project on this in high school more than 20 years ago where I tried to elucidate the crisis in the media landscape. I pointed out that the tendency for non-nuanced discussion and sensation journalism was a potential danger and corruption of the fourth power. The TV-series "The Newsroom" came closest to show what I really meant with "objective journalism", but now the fall of subjective journalism is happening for real. Fascinating!

    Journalism has been falling apart for a long time. I was a journalism major in high school and a few semesters of college in the late '80s and early '90s. I talked to a lot of journalists, and a lot of them jokingly referred to the editor as the "state censor", but too many of them didn't seem to be joking or smiling when they said it. It was also around this time that the network news began to unravel. One example that I remember is when ABC or NBC claimed that Chevy trucks would explode on side-impact. It wasn't true, so the network stuck a model rocket engine in the trucks gas tank to make it explode, but got caught.

    when i'm reading a book, i have to use an inner narrative voice.
    i know that maybe sounds stupid but i have to do that because after some minutes
    the words would stop echoing in my mind and i would remember nothing of what i just read.
    i love to read! but the ADD makes it a bit difficult

    • @justinsk2241
      @justinsk2241 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can train yourself to read faster. The narrative voice in your head is a crutch. In reality you should be able to perceive the words and their meaning without having to audiate them quite quickly with enough practice. try by using a pencil or pen across a line and make it so your eyes must follow the utensil as close as possible

    • @praiseit6848
      @praiseit6848 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justinsk2241 thank you sincerely!
      but the problem is not that i can't read fast enough, because i can.
      the problem is that my mind starts drifting off with other thoughts, if i don't use the narrative voice to keep me concentrated.
      like i said it's an attention thing.
      maybe it's hard to understand what i mean if you never experienced it yourself? idk

      They spent a while on the show talking about his diet which apparently consists solely of beef, water, and salt. It's kind of extreme, but he's doing it for health reasons I won't go into. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone and neither is he, but there are plenty of people and cultures that survive or even thrive on a restricted or near-mono diet. Be smart and be healthy but make your own choices. Since they uploaded the clip this was intended for I'm thinking I might just go ahead and delete this one, but that's REALLY cheating.

    I think what it comes down to is a couple of things. Being a great conversationalist, having interesting guests, but mainly allowing for true and honest conversation without any chance for misrepresentation - something we see way to often in mainstream media. Allowing people to convey their opinions through the longform style of a podcast is a great way to really get to know someone, and Joe is completely conscious of this.
    I made a video looking at this topic too, also covering why podcasts in general have become so popular!

    Man I thought Peterson was peddling in hate, just because of things I've seen other people write about him. I mean the comments section under his bodies certainly exposes one to a bunch of filthy hatred and other shit, but man, this guy is a liberal in my eyes. There's not a ton of conservative there. Religion I guess, but like, most of what he says I find myself agreeing with him, there's some things he's wrong about to, but overall, he is nothing at all like he is represented

    • @MrGreenAKAguci00
      @MrGreenAKAguci00 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He is clever enough to let you think on your own, you don't have to agree with everything he says. He ultimately just wants to share his tools. Also the religion part is not exactly bad thing I mean he just sees that religion is a gold mine of archetypes to choose from and follow. It is one of the oldest gold mines of archetypes too so if it survived so long these archetypes ware most likely good enough to remember. We are doing the same now with superhero movies we are making archetypical stories to show metaphorical examples of paths one could choose to follow in life. Also he likes religion because it nailed down certain aspects of life, it had enough time to get them right. Like the fact that suffering is a part of life but it can be made holy in some sense, one can choose the sacrifice to achieve something. That's also true. That's universally true for any achievement you'd want. Now that achievement and the joy that it can bring (assuming it's a genuine one) is where the holiness of it is.
