    We love to moan about the weather here and the UK, and we know that a light dusting of snow is often all it takes for the road network to grind to a halt. So how do we best prepare for inevitable onset of slushy roads and icy mornings?
    If you’re about to change cars and want to choose something that is as winter-proof as possible, the Nissan ARIYA should be at the top of your shopping list. Why? Well, Nissan’s range-topping model comes with brand’s e-4ORCE technology. It’s a system that uses two electric motors, one feeding the front wheels….. and one the rear. Now as you may well know four wheel drive is better for getting a grip in slippery situations, but the ARIYA’s e-4ORCE is even better because it’s constantly monitoring what’s happening at the wheels. That means it can send the power to the tyre with the most grip.
    And because they are electric motors, they can react much faster than they could with a petrol or diesel engine. In bad weather the system is constantly scanning the road and is able to react to slips in 0.0001 of a second - that really is faster than the blink of an eye. It then sends power to the right wheels at the right time.
    To find out how effective the system is, we went in search of snow and ended up… in Milton Keynes. Join Ginny and Nicola as they attempt to drive a Nissan ARIYA the wrong way up a ski slope to see how effective e-4ORCE is at overcoming slippery surfaces.

    This video really was quite a hoot. I did notice that winter tyres were fitted (OK I'm a nerd but noticed the sipes in the tread blocks in the early part of the video before the sub title) these tyres make a massive difference in the winter when temperatures are less than 7 degrees C. They can be hard to find in some sizes. Anyway I digress, for an EV with loony amounts of torque this is quite impressive, on summer rubber the result may have been a tad different though. I love the fun banter and the sledge bit, a great double act. Ginny the serious one with the facts but has a definite soft and very considerate side and Nicola who's a brilliant bundle of fun and says things as she sees them, maybe not always at the right time in the right company. Thanks for sharing.

    Not once but more than once drove from Cornwall to Essex then onto the Lake District in blizzard conditions. And what was the awe inspiring vehicle with all the bells, whistles and off-road capabilities vehicle I owned at the time? A 1980s Fiat Panda FWD. And after that chosen car, I had another of the same model; and again but in a different year, drove from Monmouthshire to the Lake District in a blizzard. The first few times I made it door to door to door.
    The last time in a Panda, I made it to within 4mi and walked the rest. While I was readying for the walk, the engine was cooling and before leaving the car, I taped a bag over the exhaust pipe and draped a wool blanket over the engine. Over the next 7-10 days, I checked on the car if passing and eventually the roads were cleared enough for me to move the car on the remaining 4mi. The bag had kept the exhaust from filling with windblown snow and the blanket had kept the windblown snow from choking the engine bay. A bit the WD40 and the shovel I still carry during winter did the rest.
    Long story short. You work with what you have, you get to know the capabilities of what you have/drive and plan for the ‘What if’. You plan ahead and if you think you’ll ever drive in say a deep snow, through a blizzard, in deep water, over a muddy field. You drive in those conditions where and when it’s safe to do so - before - you really need to do so and with instruction if needed. So when the ‘What if’ become the ‘When’ or it’s happening now. You’ve got the best chance of getting to your intended B and then onto C if needed.

      It says in the video it is fitted with winter tyres not available in the UK. Which is more the reason it got up the slope than all the eforce tech. Type of tyre is very important, it is the only link between car and road surface.

    Impressed how the performs on the Ski slope, but less so on the road getting to the Slope, Ginny & Nicola both looked like bobbing fishing floats, is the suspension really that harsh, if it is then Nissan should have spent more money there, than rather on something only 1% of people in the UK will need. 🤔

    I know it says it is a sponsored ad and many other channels have sponsors for episodes or the channel itself. Many of these sponsors are for loosely linked items such as Stormberg Clothing, Squarespace etc and not a product that is directly linked to the channel and one which benefits from a promotion linked to supposed independent reviewers. I do think it harms the channels integrity and independence. Some may not care, that's fine, I do as to will make me think twice about the views expressed in other reviews.

    As others have mentioned, it is a pity that you don't mention the winter tyres that were on the car. Regardless of eForce, if the Ariya had been on normal tyres, I doubt it would have got up that slope. Winter tyres were the key and I have been a firm believer and user of winter tyres (in winter) for many years, whether it is snow, ice or just colder than +7 degrees C. I think I am correct in saying that winter tyres on a 2wd are better than normal tyres on a fwd. I'm a bit of a nerd, I know :-), but even in the UK, winters tyres are a good idea.

    • @philhartley7564
      @philhartley7564 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I've acknowledged that already, it is on screen in the subtitles for around 5 seconds, in relatively small type, The fact that is not mentioned in the audio and the fact that Nissan point out that they don't provide winter tyres is a little disingenuous though, don't you think. The car, as it is set up, cannot be bought from Nissan (i.e. you can't get winter tyres from them) means the video does not represent that facts. IMO, the winter tyres have more benefit than the eForce technology. Not exactly thorough journalism IMO@@chillout1109
