Funny story: His daughter is Lucy Davis, who played Dawn Tinsley in The Office, so once a reporter asked her "So when did you change your surname from Carrott?" Her reply was "When did you think that Carrott was our real surname?"

His original shows on LWT were about the time that Carrott in Notts came out, and were even better than this (IMHO). Just him in a rugby shirt and denim jacket with the ever present guitar. Ill have a guess at 1976-78ish? A couple of years later, for reasons that I won't go into, he somehow ended up round ours one Sunday for lunch, we went on to see him that evening at The Central Hall in Chatham. Very happy days.

That phrase lives in my mind....it must have made an impact upon me because it pops into my daily life with great regularity....it's the phrase that comes to mind when I think of Jasper Carrot. In 1976 ish, a couple of mates and I were sitting in the set room on top of a mountain in Cyprus, listening to BFPS (British Forces Radio). It wasn't brilliant, but suddenly the DJ stated that some squaddie had asked for the B side of Blue Funkey Moped. None of us had heard Jasper's Magic Roundabout. Needless to say, we were almost wetting ourselves laughing. BFPS never played it again. A friend of mine partnered Jasper in a charity golf tournament a few years ago, and said Jasper was an ace bloke.

I played Scunthorpe Baths twice in the 90s with a Bryan Adams Tribute band. The venue had a really good set-up there with an excellent PA system and and even a fold back system with somebody working on the monitor mix. Our band's name was 'Reckless' after BA's breakthrough album in the UK. When we did our first gig there, as we drew up to the building, we saw a banner advertising our gig. It billed us as 'Wreckless - Brain Adams Tribute Band' 😆. From then, we quite often (despite his name being Gary) called our singer 'Brain' 😊
