    My late dad played this to me when I was 14 years old, and I was in hysterics! I hadn't heard it again until last night, and as well as making me laugh once more, it has brought back some wonderful memories of my dad- thanks for giving me a wonderful sense of humour pops, Sleep Well

    Thanks for posting! Have been looking for this for decades! I grew up in the West Midlands but moved in 1983 when I was 7. No one in the States would ever really get this humor. My dad had this and a few other Jasper Carrot performances on cassette and was always listening to them.

      Pleased you found it here Dave, This came straight from DJM records during my D.J.days in 1975, I was doing Butlin's for the whole season, I played this often and so many people wanted to know what it was, as I got it before it came in the shops, it felt like I almost got it in the charts personally as the word got around. I just love Jasper Carrot, best stand up comedian ever in my books : )

    The 'A' side "Funky Moped" featured Jasper's old school mate Bev Bevan with Jeff Lynne, Richard Tandy and Kelly Groucutt. It was basically E.L.O. without the string section. "Funky Moped" was produced by Jeff Lynne, it reached #5 in the UK singles chart.

    Loved Carrott aka Bob Hughes*. I'm not quite a Brummie, living just outside the boundary, but it was so good to hear a Birmingham accent on the telly. Jasper played charity matches at my local football ground, alongside Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Nick Owen (now chairman of Luton FC) and various other celebs.
    Especially loved to hear him talking about Birmingham City matches "eh, Carrott, they've got no cowin' Bovril". I was in bits, I've been in a similar situation, we went to the wrong end at Villa Park....don't ask....

    I haven't seen or heard anything of Jasper Carrott for years and for me just as funny now as it was back in the 70s (can't remember the exact year). Always found his shows funny and especially "The Detectives", a series about a pair of particularly inept detectives, his partner in crime fighting being played by tne very serious actor and heart throb Robert Powell. This was a parody of the harder hitting detective series popular at the time.

    I still have this single. The A side was Funky Moped, but I think what sold the record was this classic B side. In fact this may have been a double A sided single because both tracks were listed together on the charts according to my hit singles books I have.

    • @dannyvine3605
      @dannyvine3605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No "funky moped" was the officially released single A side. Magic Roundabout became popular with the DJ's who played it a lot instead of the A side, hence helping with the sales of Funky Moped.
