Fantastic. R. I. P., Bernard. I saw Bernard Manning at The Embassy Club back in the late 80's, when I was a young man. Ralid, cunning, relentless and unforgiving, all of it superb. Yes, he was what we would now call racist. Back in the day, right or wrong, it was mostly tongue in cheek titillation. No, it isn't acceptable nowadays, nor should it be. But I don't think Bernard was really racist, it was an angle of humour - push until you get a reaction, then go for the jugular. Jovial, overweight, smiling man causes audiences to guffaw and gasp in shock and hilarity, beautifully mixed and delivered with such seeming ambivalence, at times it's hard to distinguish the man from the mundane. Thank you for posting the video. Brings back fond memories of days gone by and a time when we were allowed to laugh at ourselves. R. I. P. Bernard
comedy genius regardless of what any of the PC-brigade have to say.....saw him several times at the Embassy.... great great man... good enough for the Queen, good enough for me
When in Rome you have to do as the Romans do. Manning worked the tough northern working mens clubs and paid his dues - he gave those audiences what they wanted, he'd have been eaten alive otherwise. I worked with him twice back in the 90s - he was a genuinely gifted comedian who could be funny with clean humour as equally as he could be dirty. His timing and quickfire wit was impeccable - and to be honest was a rather quiet, considered and slightly eccentric chap behind the stage curtain. You can argue forever about some of his comedic material - but taken purely on his technical ability to set up and deliver a joke hes the best stand up comic the Uk has produced.

A comic legend, people need to get back to being able to laugh at themselves and their individual differences without being offended, it's jut a joke, it's just an act, and one of the best acts ever:-).
Joking is good, but people need to pay attention to consequences sadly cunts like the EDL give these types of jokes a worse flavour.
It doesn't come any better than, Bernard Manning.
He's a brilliant comedian because he made laugh out loud for most of those 7 + minutes - legend!
I phoned Michael Barrymore and Cliff Richard answered, wonder what he really knew.
rumours back then but true
@James Thompson And they still haven't jailed anyone for it. Disgusting.
@James Thompson PMSL😂😂
@@23093034 Yes very true they haven't ! certain people get special protection from the establishment!!
Almost pissed myself
The greatest standup comedian ever.
No doubt
One of the Best comedians ever.......If only Bernard was still alive.......Comedy died when Bernard and Bob Monkhouse passed away
lol
your comment begs to differ
Samuel Jones That's why I said one of the best and not the best, so It doesn't beg to differ......You must be a foreigner lol
Bollocks, what about Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard and Lee Evans? ...Luddite!
And ken dodd😛
Absolutely brilliant!!!!
I met Bernard, in Manchester, many times in the eighties.
He bowed to no one, loved his mum immensely and was always funny as f+ck. 😘
The Barrymore joke lmfao 😂👍🍺
This is the funniest interview I've ever seen. Him and Rodney Dangerfield are the best one liner comedians in my opinion.
Fantastic. R.
R. I. P. Bernard
comedy genius regardless of what any of the PC-brigade have to say.....saw him several times at the Embassy.... great great man... good enough for the Queen, good enough for me
Saw him live in the 80's, without doubt the most I've ever laughed.
Ricky Hatton has really let himself go.......
Brilliant interview......Mark just let him go with it..unlike some others who stopped him from being himself or trying to set him up and fail
Also he was a gentleman my Dad knew him and he did a lot for charity and it got overlooked because of his risque jokes.
+Mundo Productions Good comment mate, fully agree!
Well said. I thought Lamarr would be the most PC of all interviewers but this was fine...
Lamarr was excellent, he needs to be on TV more. Manning was a bigot, lets be honest, and bigots can still give to charity.
clearly dont know the meaning of the word
Rangda Rangda bigot ny arse
cliff richard answered lmao
A very telling joke that eh. Cliff is as gay as they come.
And a sweet ass too i would imagine 😂
not many get that joke LOL just look up cliff richard and the crays

i never find anyone funny who just memorises jokes .... no skill or humour or intelligence to it.
@@JohnSmith-it6hj he just seems really thick to me....but then maybe that was his audeince level?
@@JohnSmith-it6hj haahah so funny when poor little peasants vote to be poorer. Turkeys voting for Christmas and blindly following the orders of their owners. Pure peasantry.

@@Stantheman848 humourless fuckwits like you who probably support the idea men can get pregnant , your left wing tosser ,this guy made people laugh you and your ilk make people want to die
That last joke about the Tesco cashiers is so funny.
Imagine something as funny as this being on the TV these days. I can't either and it wasn't long ago. It's all been sacrificed on the altar of the Church of Woke. Tragic.
You could buy an imagination if you were weren’t so thick.
brilliant comedian. wish the UK had more comedians like him
We did. There were many like him, most not as good, a few were better... Until the leftists came along.
There was only one manning, great funny and a very kind man off stage.
There are lots of people like him in workplaces and pubs up and down the land, we all know one, but its not their era right now.
Genius. . Natural. Love watching him.
Proper old school comic.
I phoned him up cliff Richard answered 😂😂😂😂😂
Saw Bernard several times during the 80’ and grew up with him on the comedians in the 70’. Absolutely brilliant. Mark Lamar did a quality interview here.
I worked with Bernard a few times in the late 70's, a pure gent xx
yeh us nippers used to wash his car back in the 70's "lewis avenue" we were round there every week lol if there were 2 of us he would give us 50p "struck gold"
no alex you knobhead we used to wash his car as kids .....
Alex Thomson lol that’s what I wax going to say
You might have known my pal, stage name Toni Mason, who used to sing at the Embassy club. She used to be frightened to death of him because he tried to bring her in to his jokes. She said he had a very soft side though, very generous man.
No PC bollocks here my friends! 😂
Bernard Manning was one of the best ever.
i agree, and the fella dont know what hes missing , matt monro the best singer of them all better than sinatra
One of the best interviews i ever seen!
We lived round the corner from him when i was little and my dad knocked about with him, he got a lot of stick but they never mention how much Bernard raised for many charities, R.I.P.
Back in the eighties,Bernard would do a show in Manchester in the evening, then travel straight down to Newquay Cornwall to appear at his brother Franks club. There's brotherly love for you.I heard also that he did it for free, big man,big heart, sadly missed.
Saw this great man in Blackpool some years ago, absolute legend, one of the best ever
phoned up barrymore this morning and cliff richard answered. quality.
Saw Bernard a few times. This man always delivered a top show !
You’ve a short memory.
i remember his 'my uncle died in Auschwitz, he fell out of the machine gun tower'.

When comedians were comedians and not used tampax sniffers
Compared to many other unfunny interviewers, Mark Lamarr showed quite a lot of respect to one of Britain's most funniest comedians who ever lived. 50+ years of making people laugh. How many modern comedians can claim that boast.
No modern comedians can make people laugh nowadays, what passes for 'comedy' now is pathetic & just unfunny. I'm glad I was born in the 60s in some ways.
Don't forget to start buying the dvd box sets , as in our later years the will be NOTHING to watch on tv or make us laugh and many of the old comedy dvds are slowly going on the banned lists in stores and online....@@andyexall8214
Whenever I feel a little fed up l just put Bernard on you tube and l feel better for it. Like various people on here l also was lucky enough to meet him. Did loads for charity without going on about it. Yes he's not perfect but what a commedian.
The King of Non PC Comedy RIP Bernard Manning
FUCK CULTURAL MARXISM
@James Henderson don't watch then?
@@thephalcon9501 I doubt it. He was only on TV for about two years in the 1970s then spent the rest of his racist career as his crappy club in Manchester.

Mark Lamarr has a few little attempts at taking the piss from Bernard here but makes no inroads. Bernard was tremendous in this interview Very very funny indeed and has the audience in the palm of his hand :-) Something Lamarr can only dream about.
Bernard you’re an ICON! ✌🏼❤️✌🏼❤️✌🏼❤️
What date did this air? I'm assuming '95/'96ish. I'm astonished Lamarr would host Manning in such a light hearted way. A very enjoyable exchange.
