    Which of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games do you think is most playable in 2023?

    I think FF is worth playing in 2023 simply because it's a fun game. If you only play WoW, LoL or CoD, then you won't enjoy FF, sure. But if you like RPGs, in general, you can enjoy games that are, so to say, not as good as your favorites. The gameplay is there, and it's the same gameplay you already enjoy, only less polished in comparison.
    Any game that was good on release and during the next several years, is worth playing 20, 30 or 40 years later. We read books written thousands of years ago, we watch movies made a century ago, we listen to early 20th century music still. Because even if the ideas or something are outdated (racism, misogyny), there's still value to be found there.

      I definitely agree that there is value in playing the original game, and there are all sorts of reasons to check it out. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't find some enjoyment in this play through.
      I guess my thing is, with so many other awesome RPGs out there, should this one be a priority? I know it's important- but it is a bit barebones.
      But you do bring up some good points!
      Thanks for watching, it's been cool seeing you pop up in the comments! I hope you continue to enjoy the channel.

    Back when I played Final Fantasy 1, I could tolerate that kind of round turn based combat but not now. Character turns or I'm not playing it. Plus the encounter rate of these games tends to be obnoxious.
    Valkyrie Profile 2 is similar to Strangers Of Paradise in the sense that it is a prequel and I tend to recommend playing Valkyrie Profile 2 first before the first game because not only is it easier to get into but there are certain scenes in the game that are spoiled by the first game and with that, certain impact is lost. On the other hand if you didn't play the first game then you will have no idea what's going on in the final chapter.
    Despite that though, I still consider it the better entry point. I think sometimes it's better to play prequals before the original game because ignorance is bliss and with that comes a whole new experience that people who grew up with the original games will never have.
    Same goes for Crisis Core as well, I would say that Crisis Core is worth playing before playing FF7 or the FF7 remake because it adds so much more weight to Cloud's character.

      I totally agree, committing your entire party to a round of actions without being able to react to the enemy- I don't really mess with this kinda thing.
      I think the only exception I can think of is Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth- but that's because I think it had to be that way for the combo system to function.
      I'm in the process of getting VP2 to work, its a little suboptimal at this time, but I'm figuring it out. Looking forward to it as soon as I get it where it needs to be.
      I picked up the remake of Crisis Core, but between playing other games- I think it might still be in its shrink wrap. Sadly I've played the other games in the series, so I can't test your theory, but I look forward to checking out in the near future.
      Thank you for watching!

      @@digitalhauntology Yeah well Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is an action game so it's a completely different scenario. In a way the characters themselves are more representative of their movesets than anything.
      Unlike Lenneth, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is not turn based, it's not real time either, it's synchronized time so you'll notice a huge difference there, it really speeds up the pacing of combat a lot... but can also slow it down depending on the situation, it's very flexible in that regard.
      I mean you can play it like a real time action game but you'll probably get bodied, to give you context on what I mean, on the game's highest difficulty, every attack the enemy does to you is pretty much instant death, so you have to balance navigating around their attacks while trying to maintain optimal damage output on the enemy.

      Same here, but those were the first ones I played. People always say that you first Final Fantasy is your favorite one haha, maybe there is some truth to that.
      But I also really loved XV, flaws and all.

    Stranger of Paradise is objectively a better remake than FF7R

      I couldn't say either way haha.
      I think they are both chill and serve different purposes.
      But SOP does swing for the fences in ways that FF7R simply does not.
      And Jack Garland is the hero we all deserve.

    • @AnachronisticGamer
      @AnachronisticGamer ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. SoP is a prequel, FF7R is a remake. Those are not the same thing. So, it can't be an "objectively better remake" because it is not a remake.

    • @digitalhauntology
      @digitalhauntology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Called it a prequel in the video.
      Chill out brother, it’s a game- it ain’t that serious.

    Personally, I don't think FFI is worth playing at all. Its borderline non-existent story and lack of interesting characters makes it agonizingly boring to me. I can't stay invested in an RPG if there's no one and nothing in its world to care about. Of course, this is just me.

    • @digitalhauntology
      @digitalhauntology  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can't help but agree.
      It is just an almost blank canvas to do some really rudimentary role playing and you're right, the lack of characters and plot just make it kind of nebulous at best.
      And the fact that the battle system is barebones and grindy as well, just made it to where I couldn't find any hooks.
      But Stranger of Paradise had all of those things, and made this play through of FFI at least marginally interesting for me.
      I don't know haha.
      Thank you for watching!

    I really wonder about people who cite the lack of plot or character development in FF 1. They did the best they could with a toaster and a frying pan back in the '80s, guys; computers just weren't as developed as even a sink seems to be today.
    I saw the same thing in teachers college of English teachers who read summaries of books but never actually read the book itself for themselves.
    I wonder if the same logic goes to kindergarten math class. "Teacher, this is too simple, I can't bring myself to do it because Calculus exists." Kid never learns Calculus because they never bother to learn two plus two. Kid calls himself a math fan. The one weakness in this analogy is people might never have read books for English class to become an English teacher, nor modern gamers might not have beat FF 1, but perhaps you all beat Dark Souls which is Gen Z NES Hard.
    I still don't understand the inability to beat a game in a world of TH-cam walkthroughs and 4x gold and 4x XP and no random battles. The game takes 16 hours, so I'd guess 4-6 hours for the Pixel Remaster version. At some point, it just sounds like you don't actually understand the idea that they did the best they could with the technology that they had.
    At some point the problem just might not be FF 1. It might be your attention span, or your perspective on the game.
    If you dont like the game, why make a video on it? The voice is monotone because you dont care for the topic.

    • @digitalhauntology
      @digitalhauntology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First, thanks for watching the video and taking your time to comment as it helps with the algorithm.
      But I'm equally confused.
      I paid for the game, gave my reasons for why I wanted to play it, played through the game to 100% completion over the course of about 14 hours, wrote an essay, suggested modern solutions to factors that were understandably outdated and even celebrated what I found to be the successes of this original outing.
      And yet, you attack my attention span and speech patterns.
      If you are a teacher-
      I fear for the children.
      Is this the kind of example you set? You go on the attack as soon as someone doesn't share your myopic world view- and then you write a wall of text on a video that you didn't like and even try to make fun of my tone of voice.
      Go touch grass, you're terminally online and it shows in the way you communicate. You seem miserable.
