First , I’m glad you’re feeling better, nothing worse than being alone not feeling well. Every one needs some TLC now and then.❤ Absolutely the most beautiful phots by nightfall I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you for sharing.😊
Remember to spray the peppermint on top of the tires and shock absorbers because that's what they use to climb up. I had trouble with squirrels getting into my engine compartment when it was parked at Cottonwood Lakes in the Sierra this summer but I can't use any smellable deterrents because of the bears, they'll be attracted to it. I camp mostly in the Sierra so driving on top of a large tarp and wrapping it up around the car is about all that can be done.
I've used straight peppermint oil for years. Living on a farm they are all over! I'll dose the oil everywhere in the house and will tell you it works. I use it for the van also put it under the hood and floor inside. I buy it in the large bottle I use so much!! Lol Good luck
I've worked in the Parks since retiring the last 7 years, so I've let some co-workers use it in housing!! The 1st time I used it probably used a bit too much! Lol the dog and I both had to go sit outside it made our eyes water!! Hahaha but my house was quite awhile later slept much better that night!! Thank goodness
A friend of mine puts moth balls in a sock and puts one on each tire to discourage little critters. She really feels that it works well and she lives and travels around the dessert.
Love your videos I think I’ve left you a message before, but I always wish you nothing but the best always and forever so amazing and awesome all the places you get to see and so cool. You get to enjoy it by yourself.
When me and my sister were camped out in the redwoods in our vehicles I had a baby skunk try and make a home inside my left front tire well. I blasted my music and that is how I got rid of it finally. It was really cute and even thought about how cool it would be to make a pet out of it. I kind of missed it when it was gone.
LOL😃 absolutely awesome video... you had me laughing and loving all the big words and funny stories! So happy your back Christine... like many others was wondering where you went?😊 Praise GOD your doing better and having great travels again! FYI... 😲we have been with in 1 or 2 hours of each other a few times now! ANYWAY... GOD Bless You! KEEP GOING!!!🙏

Great video!! Fresh Cab Rodent Repellent is all you will need to get those little bastards away from your car. No mothballs, no traps, nothing. I was in port Angeles WA a few months ago and there was a rat that decided to stay in my engine compartment, I freaked out and went to several stores, I tried an entire peppermint oil bottle which smelled great but the rat was still there, popping and pissing on my engine block. Bringing in sticks and stuff to make a home. I finally went to Swains in Port Angeles and a lady recommended this stuff which btw smells like pine (which I personally love, like pine candle) the box is about 20/25 bucks and comes with a few little individual pouches which I put around my engine and a couple inside the car by the pedal and glovebox. It smelled amazing to me and they no longer were making any noise the day after I put those things around. It’s a frightening and annoying feeling to hear them chewing and running around in your car, I was there, I get it. I’m on my second box since this happened to me about four/five months ago and I’ll be ordering another since I just got to Southern California. I honestly didn’t know they were here until I just watched your video. This product is natural and absolutely AMAZING!!! Hope you get this message and actually try it for yourself. Sorry but I don’t post or have any followers lol, I just like to watch other people’s travels etc. Happy travels.
Gorgeous photos of the night scape. You have gorgeous blue eyes. I enjoyed your video. I’m in bed off and on today trying to recover from a cold as well so thanks for entertaining me while I’m sick.
I’m watching this weeks later, but wanted to say I’ve had Lost Bread in the French Quarter in New Orleans. It was served for breakfast and was just extra rich French toast made with French bread.
I’m glad your feeling better, being alone sick does not help. Omg the critter I would be freaking out if I saw a mouse. I hope it has gone. Those pics you took were just beautiful your an amazing photographer. I’m writing this on Xmas eve here in West Aust, so I wish you Merry Xmas and have a great new year, and I hope your with your family at Xmas 🎄🎄🎅
Loved my travels through JT. So quiet when I stopped to take a leak it sounded like a thunderstorm…. As far as spiders and rodents…. Glue traps….. Take no prisoners.
lol I had the same experience while car camping at Fossil Falls on Thanksgiving weekend. The sound of them woke me up so many times from my night sleep. First thing I did in the morning was check my engine bay to make sure nothing was chewed up lol. Last thing I wanted was to be stranded with no one around.
Hullo again Christine, sorry I missed the live video. I would of gotten the chat going. hehe. Good to see you are on the mend. I look forward to your upcoming video's.
First time watching your video, I have past by Joshua tree park a few times over the years but never stopped there, in the process of spending my winter in California, AZ, greetings from vanlife in oregon 🎉
A lot of good finds on Amazon that I saw there to buy for those tiny little mice some people have it sent out to a ups store for pick up you poor thing i hope you were able to catch up on rest and I hope you are feeling a bit better 🫶 they say to get some sun 🌞 when you do have a cold 🤧 so you did good
Hi it's Chris from Australia 🇦🇺, so glad your feeling better, you'd be surprised Christine how many Aussies support you and I've shown some of them you posts and are now subscribers, hey what was wrong with your French toast?
Ummm, I turned this on and saw you holding that microphone and I thought Man, she sounds great. Then I thought what a natural narrator. Then I thought, I love her natural look how beautiful. Then you indicated that you had been sick! How was I to know lol. I enjoyed your video sick or not, get well soon. Beautiful as always !
You’re in my neighborhood, I just did a video on it. I’m trying to get my van ready to travel and having mechanic issues. The last one was squeamish cause he saw rat poop in my engine. Made the video and sent it to the owner 😁 Hope you’re feeling better and enjoyed your visit 💜
Musicbed 😄 i use it too Fellow content creator here too and car nomad! Im in LA too for a bit if u ever wanna meet up I live full time in my tesla going on month 6!
I also once stayed a few days at a private camp site in (I think it was Arches National Park?) called "Gouldings". My Mums Maiden name was Goulding!! Highly recommended. It has a great film show room where they show historical films with live commenary about the region, very interesting.👌👌👌
ive seen live astronomy from Joshuha Tree, its amazing, even a quick tour on line, id love to go, my nearest dark sky site is the Lake District in the UK.
I hope the peppermint oil works. I’m trying it out under the hood of my Jeep right now. A rat keeps making a nest on top of my battery using the insulation from the underside of my hood. Grrrrrr
Pain perdu is french and also something you would find in new Orleans. . A Hallmark of "peasant" cuisine is using everything, not throwing anything out so that's why it's called lost bread because otherwise you would throw it out. I don't think that's what the French do now, they use good, homemade bread.
Glad you're back and feeling better 😊 I was just at Joshua Tree recently myself! Loved Hall of Horrors (been meaning to research how it was given that name). Also the Keys View overlook; amazing!! Can you share more info on that little skillet you use? I didn't see it in your link list. I just got an induction burner off Amazon (good holiday sales rn), but I'm not entirely sure I like it.
Thank you! The exact skillet isn't available on amazon anymore from the seller but I saw a lot of similar options if you search for mini electric skillet.
I have had mice invade my car twice. I've placed no-kill mice traps and caught them. Put so cheese in the traps or whatever you have on hand. I don't like killing them, so I just release them a distance from my car. Both times they've been tiny and cute.
Pain perdu is the French for French toast, and yes, translates literally as lost bread😂 It seems you know some French. Do you have any video of French travels?
You're telling my story. It kept getting worse and worse. I couldn't sleep at night. I sold my first RV because of it, THEM! Now I regret it every day.
Mint oil spray on underside of engine before you go to sleep, dryer softener sheets above tires at night, and a string of lights (with rechargeable batteries) under your car will all repel rodents
We have a possum and an armadillo who share space under our cabin. When they dig their grubs in the early evenings, it sounds like I’m being invaded by hooligans literally throwing rocks at my house. Drives my beagle nuts, but I cannot release him into the night to give chase as there are fast roads in either direction and he would chase into traffic.
I too have had mice but in the walls in my house near my dishwasher. We decided to try steel wool as well to plug up the hole they were accessing into the dishwasher area but we quickly found out that it is very flammable. The mouse had scratched the electrical wire for the dishwasher open and we didn't realize that until the steel wool touched it and there was a flame burst. We called the plumber and electrician after that, LOL.
I was worried about you sweetie. Glad to know it is/was a cold and not something more serious. I am babysitting a friend's 2 dogs for 3 days, not loving it, I'm really not a big dog person. In fact I'm not a big pet person....lol
I just have an honest question. I enjoy these stories on youtube because it fascinates me. But I was wondering why not just live with your mom and not have to sleep in your car? I'm only think this way because I am way too chicken to do it. I don't think I could do it even for one night. But you're certainly not the only one. So many women do this and I like watching it haha. Some of the gals have vans, some are in campers. It's interesting but I just had that question. :)
Not being dramatic AT ALL! I would be horrified if a mouse was in my vehicle. I also wouldn't want to harm the poor thing. Love seeing Joshua Tree NP. Yeah, you may be jaded, but to a person from the east coast, this looks very unique and amazing. Adding it to my bucket list. ❤
Can of wasp spray. Spray at night into those crevasses where you see the critters. WEAR EYE PROTECTION! Get some solar charge motion detector lights. Glue on STRONG magnets, or double side velcro, mount inside on hood facing down. Also put one in top of each wheel well facing down. They usually climb the tires to get up and in. Some legendary van Lifers have installed a continuous strobe light system under the vehicle. (The Campulance Man) I have seen episodes in Alaska/British Columbia, where porcupine have attempted to infiltrate the car. Newer car wire insulation is soy based and they enjoy the flavor.

Interesting tactic!
pine oil or pine-sol will repel mice and possibly other rodents but will definitely repel bears rather than attract them like p-mint will

Sounds like you have a lot of experience. It’s a hit on miss for me. We use peppermint oil as one of the few approved products in national parks.

Moth Balls are really effective. But they give me head aches over time.
That's a clever idea!
