Shamrock was a pro-wrestler before he got into MMA. Generally though when you have seen MMA fighters in Japan go into pro-wrestling they treat it like a shoot and don't go and call it fake once they are done with it.

Considering a VAST majority of wrestlers are either fancy-pancy body builder types who would get their ass handed to them by most of the fans watching in a bar fight, skinny emo-kids who don't mind getting stabbed in the face with 8 inch nails cos it saves them having to self harm, or people from MUCH less physical non-contact sports in college/high-school that are SO injured they can't play baseball or basketball at professional level because of the insurance, all just doing stunts and NEVER actually really hitting anyone in their entire life, as a real trained fighter she probably would. Of course their are the legit badd ass types, the Haku and Bruiser Brody type from back in the day, and the JBL types from later, but those are few and far between and getting ever less frequent in these Miz/Marko Stunt days we sadly live in now. Those ever decreasing handful of legit fighters are why he said most and not all. Hell, JBL could still probably take the ENTIRE roster right now, and if you take those few modern legit hard-arses out, probably four or five at a time singlehandedly in a Royal Rumble new one running in when the old one gets knocked out. Ronda could probably only manage one or two. She was a bit of knob with that statement and I wouldn't stick up for her calling wrestling out like that, but yeah, she could take MOST of the roster, easily.

As an MMA fan, and casual enjoyer of pro wrestling... I love coming back to this clip. It's just glorious. She was always rotten on the inside. One of the biggest moments in evaluating fighters in MMA is how they handle a losing. And she could not have handled it worse. She was only interested in being an athlete when everything went her way.

ponchred I get your point, but Ronda fights did not add up to many minutes in the ring. There was 0 hint of retirement from her before those 2 losses. I think the biggest thing is that she has a history of quitting after losses instead of getting better. She left the olympics after only losing one round and still got a medal, she could’ve won the next olympics but went to MMA. She was dominant until Holly Holm exposed her poor striking. People pleaded with her to change camps to improve it but she didn’t and suffered the consequence. She went to WWE and couldn’t handle the fans wanting her to be heel. The fans did appreciate her, she didn’t appreciate the story telling, cause the story was going to lead to her defeat. Ronda made tons of backhanded remarks about the industry and expected her the fans to still treat her like a baby face. She’s a generational athlete with a poor attitude.

People were willing to buy a ticket even though there was very little talent involved in the ring. Using Rousey (and Goldberg) far ahead of their time, as far as wrestling skills is concerned, caused many legitimately trained wrestlers to suffer due to the lack of skills from the Rousey type.

He has warmed to HHH because he thinks NXT is a solid wrestling show. That's really the only change. Just over the past few months he has attacked WWE s booking, it's ethos it's handling of coronavirus, its treatment of Roman reigns, the cinematic matches, the fiend, it's outside ventures, it's use of focus groups, it's commentary and it's phraseology. He's business first. Had she done well, she could have been big. Either way, she draws attention to the product. Now it looks like a "pro fighter" couldn't handle what the wrestlers do daily. She looks like a failure (all her points: schedule, scripted, etc. are common knowledge) and the other girls look like stronger competitors.
This is a work. Ronda is saying these things at WWE's orders and shes about to come back. It's obvious. Every WWE wrestler has responded in some cliche way. Not saying its a good idea to use the term fake fight but I am not sure Ronda should get the blame for this. There is the generic heel stuff about fans and all the generic responses, one at a time with a little delay between each one so they each got a news posting. They even had Shayna taking her side. They are setting up some sort of match with Shayna as an ally against the others. It's a stupid decision to call it a fake fight and they could have done it different but in a few months, we will have to blame Vince and the WWE for purposely putting this out there. With that said, maybe they are on to something since even Cornette seems to have gotten worked. He didn't talk about how stupid it was to do this as an angle, he got furious that this really happened.

Considering a VAST majority of wrestlers are either fancy-pancy body builder types who would get their ass handed to them by most of the fans watching in a bar fight, skinny emo-kids who don't mind getting stabbed in the face with 8 inch nails cos it saves them having to self harm, or people from MUCH less physical non-contact sports in college/high-school that are SO injured they can't play baseball or basketball at professional level because of the insurance, all just doing stunts and NEVER actually really hitting anyone in their entire life, as a real trained fighter she probably would.
Of course their are the legit badd ass types, the Haku and Bruiser Brody type from back in the day, and the JBL types from later, but those are few and far between and getting ever less frequent in these Miz/Marko Stunt days we sadly live in now.
Those ever decreasing handful of legit fighters are why he said most and not all. Hell, JBL could still probably take the ENTIRE roster right now, and if you take those few modern legit hard-arses out, probably four or five at a time singlehandedly in a Royal Rumble new one running in when the old one gets knocked out.
Ronda could probably only manage one or two. She was a bit of knob with that statement and I wouldn't stick up for her calling wrestling out like that, but yeah, she could take MOST of the roster, easily.

As an MMA fan, and casual enjoyer of pro wrestling... I love coming back to this clip. It's just glorious. She was always rotten on the inside. One of the biggest moments in evaluating fighters in MMA is how they handle a losing. And she could not have handled it worse. She was only interested in being an athlete when everything went her way.

I think the biggest thing is that she has a history of quitting after losses instead of getting better. She left the olympics after only losing one round and still got a medal, she could’ve won the next olympics but went to MMA. She was dominant until Holly Holm exposed her poor striking. People pleaded with her to change camps to improve it but she didn’t and suffered the consequence. She went to WWE and couldn’t handle the fans wanting her to be heel. The fans did appreciate her, she didn’t appreciate the story telling, cause the story was going to lead to her defeat. Ronda made tons of backhanded remarks about the industry and expected her the fans to still treat her like a baby face. She’s a generational athlete with a poor attitude.

I agree with you. The promoters saw money and used Rousey in the same way they did with Goldberg. People were willing to buy a ticket even though there was very little talent involved in the ring. Using Rousey (and Goldberg) far ahead of their time, as far as wrestling skills is concerned, caused many legitimately trained wrestlers to suffer due to the lack of skills from the Rousey type.

This is a work. Ronda is saying these things at WWE's orders and shes about to come back. It's obvious. Every WWE wrestler has responded in some cliche way. Not saying its a good idea to use the term fake fight but I am not sure Ronda should get the blame for this. There is the generic heel stuff about fans and all the generic responses, one at a time with a little delay between each one so they each got a news posting. They even had Shayna taking her side. They are setting up some sort of match with Shayna as an ally against the others. It's a stupid decision to call it a fake fight and they could have done it different but in a few months, we will have to blame Vince and the WWE for purposely putting this out there. With that said, maybe they are on to something since even Cornette seems to have gotten worked. He didn't talk about how stupid it was to do this as an angle, he got furious that this really happened.
