This kind of podcast is what Jim haters don't seem to be able to grasp. He doesn't just hate the new stuff because its new. He hates it because it doesn't work. He explains why it doesn't work. His knowledge is just that profound.
People who hate Jim are gay.
It really is. And this is coming from a fan who's favorite wrestler was the Ultimate Warrior (who we all kno Jim can't stand).
This man's knowledge is top notch. And not just in WWF/E but in MULTIPLE promotions. You can help but listen and soak up knowledge and facts!!!!!
I think Jim haters can’t grasp is he actually cares about wrestling, he’s not some casual fan, it is his lifeblood
“It’s like going to school to be a doctor, and you’re spending time washing dishes” Cornette is hilarious 😂
This was a masterclass in compelling podcast content. Jim Cornette is outstanding.
Gospel Truth Bro
sure he is lol
Hell yeah
I love when Jim gives us an historical deep dive on stuff like the WCW Powerplant. Absolute fountain of knowledge
The funny thing with the Powerplant is it's a good idea to drive off the looki-loos who can't take the tough lifestyle, but once you've done that after a week or two, it's time to transition to teaching folks how to work and draw money....not make sure they can complete the marine obstacle course in 45 seconds.
He’s more like a library.
Goldberg vs DDP was probably one of the best World Title matches of 1998.
Probably one of? No need for all the qualifiers, it was with certainty.

Brian's right. I want to hear Jim's review on the Bella Twins biography. You just know the biography is going to be a fluff piece, because there is NOTHING remarkable about these two as wrestlers and only got into the WWE because of their stepfather. They are probably two of the most undeserving individuals to ever be in the WWE and the fact that they're getting a biography before female wrestlers that actually gave a shite and took wrestling seriously is just disappointing.
The Bella Twins and especially Nikki really turned into serviceable wrestlers and great ambassadors for the pro wrestling in the mainstream media.
Nikki would literally go to indie women’s wrestling promotions and study for hours on end and you could see the improvements when she was pushed as the champion
Man WTF lmao. They were pretty faces who did moves. It's honestly not THAT deep. Everyone that makes it in wrestling doesn't have to grind their ass off in the indies. Sex sells. It's also a TV show about wrestling personalities, not PWI. Believe or not Bellas have bigger following than even Trish. You don't personally know "Johnny Ace" and you nor Brian Last is Corny or one of the boys. Even one of the greatest in ring wrestlers of all time in Danielson married one. Get a grip.
Why do these two even have a biography out to begin with?
@@sgt.sanders4903 Because they’re two of the most popular women’s wrestlers of all time w/ legitimate crossover success?
@@sgt.sanders4903 Because shills like the two guys above us will defend their mediocrity until the end of time even though there are WAY better female wrestlers out there than the Bella Twins.
People hate on Goldberg. Goldberg was a football player period. He failed in the NFL and Sting, lex, DDP got him into wrestling. He didn't know the business and wasn't a die hard wrestling fan. But Goldberg looked the part and he pulled it off. He got over with the fans and he got fire and he took off.
And never tried to improve in 25 years, garbage
He said many times he didn’t want to do it
Injury doesn't mean failure.
The moment Brian mentioned OVW and the Bella Twins, Jim was THIS close to losing it 🤣🤣🤣
Would be great to have Jim Cornette actually review the Bella Twins Biography …
He's already had to deal with another set of twins (the Shane Twins) stinking up the ring and they had been wrestling for 10 years prior to coming to OVW. Imagine how he would've dealt with the Bellas if they showed up there after getting signed.
He’s trying to work Corny into a shoot stroke
I've mentioned the figure 4 turnbuckke spot whenever the Goldberg vs Hart match comes up here, but it's also important to note that was not his last match he continued to wrestle matches the following week, Funk, Nash ect until he had to stop.I gained a little more sympathy for Bill after this dude got put in a spot he was not in the slightest bit prepared for. The entire world basically didn't deal with concussions properly back then.
The real madness is the companies not bothering to train the people they hire to beat each other up. They're a danger both to themselves and to others.
Goldberg was so captivating during the majority of his WCW run. As a teenager, he had me so fired up every week! To the point where I would sometimes be jumping off the couch, filled with excitement, just because I saw Goldberg on WCW TV! What a time to be a wrestling fan! Not too many wrestlers could work fans into such a frenzy and a state of complete and utter hysteria!!! If anyone had ever watched, or if anyone has ever seen on TH-cam, the match he had with Raven in 98' on Monday Night Nitro, that pretty much says it all and puts the icing on the cake! Those fans that evening, OMG! That Pop! Never again will that be replicated!
The Hogan match in Atlanta was his peak sadly, it was all downhill after that
I was watching at home when he beat Raven... and that's when he became the Yankees to me... I stopped liking him, because I knew he was going to beat everyone, including the people I liked, including babyfaces. A wrestler can win too much, too often. Goldberg is the creator of the "bor-ing" chant we hear in wrestling now.
That streak was long overdue to be broken. It should have been broken by DDP
@@SmithCommaBenjamin Yep and there should have been a ferocious feud between DDP/Goldberg/Sting for wcw and Nash/Steiner/Hall for nwo, book em for some "Damn it we have to work together" elements in 6 mans , 4 mans against each other wcw vs nwo, and break it into monstrous feuds top down. There were SOO many angles because WcW had too much talent. Too much talent... Somehow WCW managed to put too many beers in the fridge. lol This would have been a good way I think to get a ridiculously competitive heavyweight division.
I don't care what anyone says Hogan vs. Goldberg on Nitro was GREAT! I watched it as a kid and freaked out after Goldberg won lol What a time.
No-one thinks it was a bad match, just not particularly smart to give it away for free on TV with only a one week build-up.
@@haroldhall1517 Agreed. It's honestly a bit much how fans think they can do every aspect of wrestling better than people paid to do so. I'm sure TV execs in a ratings war with WWF were doing what they had to for viewers. Also Hogan and Dennis Rodman vs DDP and Karl Malone was on PPV *edit the very next month* so maybe was schedule conflicts.
@@anbu2 the younger fans wanted a build for it, but they didn't really need a build for that match to be honest, fans who were 25 and up at the time Goldberg debuted wanted to see Goldberg versus Hogan from the very beginning, the older fans knew that as soon as Goldberg beat the barbarian as easily as he did, he was going to be a big star, we knew it would only be a matter of time before he squared off with Hogan
@@anbu2 Why not? It worked. People act like TV was was costing WCW money to make. That's the business model from the 1970s, were TV was a commercial for live events.
WCW's revenue was hand over fist from TV. Sponsors galore, fans paying for tickets to be on the show in the crowd, etc. It permanently changed the business model to this day, were TV generates the most money now
@SmithCommaBenjamin "wHy NoT? iT wOrKed" yeah that's why WCW is still around right 😂😂
I always roll my eyes whenever people rant about the Goldust blonde wig thing - it was something they did for literally 10 seconds of a throwaway backstage segment once. It had zero positive or negative impact on his career, but it's something smarks always bring up like his entire WWE creative was centered around constantly wearing a blonde wig, lol.
It was ridiculous but awesome because it gave us this Immense Thumbnail ……. 👀. 💀
What's most important is that Goldberg didn't act out of character. Goldust briefly put his wig on Goldberg's head. That was it.
It was definitely pointless. It’s Crazy that thats what so many ppl remember from his run in the wwe
It’s ironic, that you’re resorting to insults and being a pretentious smart ass, when it’s actually quite simple.
The frustration comes from the fact that Goldberg didn’t destroy golddust after he put the wig on him, like he would’ve done in WCW. It undermined his fucking character.
One of the things I remember most about Goldberg's push was how excited Heenan sounded. Heenan had started sounding like he couldn't give a shit but in comes Goldberg and boom, the announcing level went up.
Da Man!
Heenan knew damn well what greatness looks like, Goldberg's undefeated streak was fuckin awesome and he said that was what popped WCW's baloon when Nash ended it. Nitro was excellent back then, Goldberg's shit looked violent and realistic, power moves were probably the best ever seen in wrestling, the spear was over majorly and that jackhammer...wow.
I got emotional listening to Heenan call Goldberg beating Hogan. Amazing. He’s screaming ”do it! Do it!’ This is your whole career here! This place will explode when he gets him up!” Heenan was a genius.

@Arod2023 uh because New York was basically WWE's main headquarters? Much like how during WCW's existence WWE never really ran Georgia or many main WCW stronghold areas 😂 its pretty obvious why WCW never went to New York lol
A&E really wanted a positive documentary but, they edited or cut a lot of what happened after Starcade 1998. Like his failed heel turn in 2000, the toxic work environment backstage in WCW, why he was written of tv before the acquisition of WCW, and his failed first run in WWE in 2003. It felt like they put bits and pieces of 1999 as well like Starrcade 1999 and the fans blaming him for what happened to Bret Hart.
I too wish that it showed more of what happened leading up to the end of WCW. It just jumped from the limo punching injury to his arrival in WWE.
Yes! They always leave out a bunch of stuff on these and it's sad I also noticed they left out his match with regal that exposed he couldn't really wrestle

Jim Cornette watches Ridiculousness on MTV, I am quite shook
Goldberg did have some great matches, he could do a lot of good things as a heavyweight. I really liked this documentary.
His win over Hogan on Nitro is arguably one of the best championship wins in pro wrestling history. Easily the best one in WCW.
My personal fave was DDP winning the four corners match Spring Stampede ‘99, but Goldberg’s superb summer to winter with that awesome win and the defense against DDP had a lot to do with building up my anticipation.
Who's arguing?
Best win and best match ARE NOT the same.
Well said Fella 💯
Coincidentally this morning I watched the Goldberg vs Nash match for Scott Hall's contract and I remarked how bad of a actual wrestler Goldberg was.

I'll never forget when Goldberg jackhammered Big Show (then _The Giant_ )
From that moment I felt this guys was a monster and I *believed* in him. I fell in love with the business more than I ever had previously.
I know the Brett Hart fanatics are going to shit on him but he said multiple times it was an accident and he has apologized for it multiple times. Not saying Bret should forgive him because he isn’t obligated to but still
Goldberg is careless and didn’t want to wrestle, it just worked out
hart is a bitter man that hasn't yet gotten the slightest idea that, Goldberg made a mistake. how many goddamn times can Goldberg say I'm sorry? it's just like, cmon get over it bret. Austin ; got piledrived by Owen , He was almost paralyzed; then he came back stronger than ever but yet you never heard stone cold complain and bitch and moan about what happened to him with Owen.
Bret has already moved on and doesn't hate Goldberg anymore. That is all that matters.
But still what?
I've always said that Goldberg's first WWE run should have been a heel version of the WCW streak.
Do the match with The Rock the same as they did it except that Goldberg does the unthinkable and squashed Rock. Do the show of respect at the end of the match between the two. Goldberg starts to leave the ring then stops and flattens Rock again. Goldberg comes out the next night on Raw with Eric Bishoff. Bishoff explains that after seeing Vince McMahon and the WWE bury WCW, he wasn't going to sit by let them do the same to Goldberg.
Then over the course of the year Goldberg run roughshod over everyone. He doesn't care about brands and shows up on both shows. He wins both the WWE and World championships. He's unstoppable. Goldberg's longest match to date will be against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. Goldberg squeaks out a win in a 10 minute match with a little help from Bishoff.
The following night on Raw Bishoff announces that Goldberg has decided to to take a nice long vacation... For the remainder of his contract which ends on the same day as Wrestlemania. Goldberg has already beaten everyone in the WWE and there isn't a man alive in the WWE who can beat Goldberg. Bishoff end by telling the fans to enjoy the first Wrestlemania without the champion on the card and leaves.
Vince McMahon address the situation the following week. He states that Goldberg WILL scheduled to defend his titles at Wrestlemania. Goldberg can choose not to show up but if he does it will go down as a forfeit loss ending his undefeated streak in the worst possible way. Bishoff confronts Vince and reminds Vince that Goldberg has a "no rematch clause" in his contract so that mean that the winner of the Rumble is out because Goldberg already beat him months ago. Vince promises to have a suitable Wrestlemania opponent lined up for Goldberg by the following week and orders Bishoff to make sure Goldberg is there so Vince can tell him face to face and if Goldberg doesn't show up he'll strip Goldberg of both titles.
The following week Vince calls Goldberg and Bishoff a pain in his ass. It cost Vince a lot of money to get the winner of the Royal Rumble to step aside and give up their main event spot at Wrestlemania. But he also needs to thanks Bishoff for giving him the perfect opponent for Goldberg. If there isn't a man alive who can beat Goldberg then maybe a Deadman can. At Wrestlemania it will be Goldberg defending both the WWE and World Heavyweight titles against the Undertaker! Goldberg's undefeated streak vs Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak! Taker hasn't been seen on TV for a few months. He went out with an "injury". Bur really it was to grow out his hair to revert back to the original Undertaker. Goldberg goes berserk and beats up Vince. The build the rest of the way would be Taker playing mind games with Goldberg without actually being seen on TV.
At Wrestlemania Taker wins after some botched interfere from Bishoff. Taker celebrates then leaves. Goldberg recovers. Bishoff berates Goldberg, blaming the loss on him when it was Bishoff's fault. Bishoff slaps Goldberg across the face. Goldberg destroys Bishoff and leaves a babyface.
Call me crazy but I think if Goldberg had had a run like that he would have probably been back in a WWE ring a lot sooner than 12 years.
It wasn't possible to book him that way bc the moment he entered wwe he just didn't care about wrestling and wanted to be a part timer. He got paid to do what he did and wanted to win matches but didn't care about long term booking
Nobody was ever going to buy Goldberg as a convincing heel after that failed attempt during the New Blood angle in WCW. Goldberg was more profitable and over as a face. It is what it is.
@@decepticonxhunter4850 You are overlooking the Bishoff factor. Bishoff was the guy who tried to put WWE out of business during the Monday night war. His heat with a WWE audience would be nuclear and don't forget, in this scenario the hug with Vince never occurs so his heat is completely intact. Bishoff would have been all the heel heat Goldberg needed.
The only thing I didn't like about that, was how pointless it made the royal rumble. Why not just have the undertaker come in at 30 and then win it?
@@phabiorules Lets start with some background to this Goldberg run idea. We're going to go all the way back to the ill-fated WCW invasion.
Bishoff is sitting at home and he's watching the Invasion unfold. He see that they brought in almost none of the main event WCW roster. The WCW guys are getting buried at every turn. They then water everything down by adding ECW into the mix and calling it the alliance and they add a bunch of WWE guys to fill out the alliance roster. Bishoff see the invasion as nothing more than Vince McMahon stroking his own ego, which it was.
Sometime after the invasion fiasco, Bishoff gets a call from Goldberg. WWE is recruiting Goldberg hard and he's not sure what to do. Goldberg is a complete novice when it comes to the business side of wrestling. He too saw what WWE did to WCW and doesn't want to end up the same way.
Bishoff becomes Goldberg's business manager and negotiates Goldberg's WWE contract. The contract is a package deal for Goldberg and Bishoff complete with full creative control and a "no rematch" clause. Bishoff wasn't going to give Vince any opportunity to screw over Goldberg. This would all be explained by Bishoff the night after Goldberg's first WWE match with the Rock. The clause would rear its ugly head from time to time throughout Goldberg's run.
As for Undertaker, the reason he didn't just come out and win the Rumble is to keeping what version of the Undertaker we were going to see a mystery. At that time Taker was doing the biker gimmick and had his hair cut off. He goes off tv for months with an "injury" so he can grow his hair back out because he's going to the dead man Undertaker for Wrestlemania but they don't want to give that away. They want to keep the fans guessing what Undertaker they will get a Wrestlemania. There's no way they would give it away at the Rumble. Besides that, having someone Goldberg had already beaten win the Rumble would create a whole lot more speculation about what the Wrestlemania main event would be. I would have probably had Lesnar come out and win the Rumble after he got screwed earlier in his match with Goldberg.
The whole point is that Bishoff wanted to ruin WWE and Wrestlemania. Goldberg had taken the both belts hostage and gone on vacation for the remainder of his contract leaving Wrestlemania to not have the champion on the card for the first time ever. Bishoff thought that there was nobody left in the company worth talking about that Goldberg hadn't already beaten. He had forgotten about the Undertaker because he hadn't been seen in months. He also thought that he had Goldberg fully under his control and wasn't happy when Goldberg's own ego got the best of him. Goldberg couldn't allow his streak to end with a forfeit loss. This is why Bishoff was pissed at Goldberg when he lost at Wrestlemania to Taker. Goldberg had ruined his grand plan.
Finally, the winner of the Rumble would still be important. As I said, it would have created controversy over the Wrestlemania main event. Lesnar wasn't going to lose his title shot, it just likely wouldn't have happened at Wrestlemania. Vince paid Lesnar to step aside at Wrestlemania, he didn't pay him to give up his title shot. There were three outcomes for Wrestlemania..
1. Goldberg no shows and forfeits the titles to Taker in which case Lesnar comes out for an impromptu Wrestlemania main event match for the title against Taker.
2. Goldberg shows up and loses to Taker. Then at the next ppv Lesnar challenges Taker for the title.
3. Goldberg shows up and beats Taker and walks out of the company as the champion. The build to the next ppv is a tournament where the winner faces Lesnar for the vacant titles. Lesnar wins with some controversy. Raw recognizes Lesnar as the champion but Smackdown doesn't and instead strip him of their title and awards it to the other guy and each brand has a champion once again.
I know this is a bit long winded but I hope it clarifies everything for you.
One of the key things that got Goldberg SO over was that he was arguably the strongest, quick power move guy ever. You never thought he was going to botch something because he “wasn’t strong enough” he literally could standing jackhammer big show. He was like Brock in that way. You never think for a second Brock won’t be able to lift something.
But he botched every one of his 5 moves on a very regular basis
Agreed Bro
He damn near killed the undertaker with that move. Dropped him on his damn head. I never much cared for Goldberg. He couldn't wrestle.
Not back during his prime, yes the return hasn’t been great at all, has ruined a lot of his legacy.
@@shawnamyotte893 lol dude, he was botching and hurting guys left and right during his prime too. Some of us watched that shit every week and couldn't stand the character.
I was a kid during the 80s superhero wrestling of the WWF and kept up with it all during the Monday night wars. I loved watching the technicians and others, but damn, the first couple times seeing Goldberg and wondering what the hell that was was a captivating event. Simple, raw power. Also, he had the perfect intro music, like the champion gladiator was coming out, standing in the sparks and fire and breathing out the smoke. He had no reason to speak, to make loud obnoxious promos. He simply was. Who's next. I met him some years ago at a meet and greet and you could tell he was happy to be there and so appreciative of his fans. I have had other meet and greets with other wrestlers and you could tell they couldn't wait to leave and have their brunch and could care less, but not Goldberg. Just an outstanding dude. Cheers.

WCW deserved to go under just based on how they handled Goldberg after they lucked into lightning in a bottle. What they could have done is given him kayfabe injuries, like missing a spear and hurting his shoulder on the post. Meanwhile giving him progressively challenging matches like Piper, Nash, Bret. The injuries keep adding up until Hogan sees his chance and beats him in the ring. Goldberg takes 6 weeks off to work on being a brawler who can actually go, comes back and works the ladder to Hogan again. His popularity could have been strung out for years and it just made no sense how they handled him.
Jim should watch the episode of Louis Theoruxs Weird Weekends from 1999 where he looks at why Wrestling is popular at the time and visits WCW during a live Nitro and also visits the power plant where he goes through training with Sarge

BTW the Bret Hart thing, look at that kick, Goldberg didn't furiously through that kick. He put his foot up and ran right into his kick. It's one of those "shit happens" situations but to continously talk about it like he's angry at him is simply bitterness. And again, I like Bret but that gets really ridiculous
Bret is bitter about a lot of things for one. But I think his beef with Goldberg historically was not that Goldberg intentionally hurt him but rather that Goldberg was never trained to be safe and he gets upset about that aspect. And when you consider the ramifications that happened to Bret as a result you can kinda understand why he’d be upset over it. It’s just silly to harbor the Ill will for such a long time.
You should have referred to Goldberg like Brett used to: Bill Go-berg. Idk if it was a Canadian accent thing but I always crack up hearing Brett say "Go-Berg" in old promos
Dammit Cornette watch the Bella’s bio, as much as we love listening to the wholesome way you spoke about Goldberg and Taker we want to hear you RAGE!!! 😂 😂 😂
Goldberg eats corn the long way
I remember the Goldberg fears Hitler signs from the 90's😂
It's funny to me that Corny has no problem attacking or mocking religions, but is smart enough to not go anywhere near the Chosen.
Bret lost 4 prime years left when Goldberg gave him a concussion
Goldberg looks like Super Sayian Nappa.
If Austin was healthy enough for one more match, why waste it on Kevin Slowens?Austin Vs Goldberg would print money, even now.
who was gonna sell in that match lol
@@dwestazDrew, Fiend, Braun. I think you can Austin to that list and Bill will survive just fine. Ha.
Austin's moment was meant to be fun and turn us into kids again. Not be an actual who would win scenario. It's part of why the Goldberg vs Undertaker match was bad. You werent even getting the 2003 versions of them. Then again I'm sure you just made this comment to say Kevin Slowens tho lol.
@dwestaz I totally, absolutely, did not factor that in. Point to you.
Austin wanted owens. It wouldn’t have made money either. Wrestle mania is always sold out and apparently it’s on peacock in the USA. So there isn’t any money to be made. Tickets already sold, and it’s not ppv, and do you really wanna see 2 old men struggle to pretend they’re 30 not 60? I don’t. I wouldn’t have brought Austin back.
I remember seeing Louis Theroux at the Power Plant in one of his weird weekend documentaries and it just made wrestling look weird af frankly. Which it is, but still...
That trainer absolutely blew him up with those workouts lol
Shock horror a show called “weird weekends” had things that look weird
I saw that lol
“He could do a hell of a jackhammer on a 500 pound man” 🤣
"You got some real weird holidays!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I agree with Brian. It's strange that Bret Hart can't forgive Goldberg and still BURY him. But he'll forgive Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon and be great with them.
Brett was friends with Michael's in the early/mid 90s. Shawn has become Christian in the since years and while I see Bret has never mentioned having faith, perhaps Bret sees that Shawn has turned his life around. Vince, idk.
I feel that Bret is more upset about the whole WCW experience and puts that above the Screwjob as injustices towards him. Shawn was objectively a better in-ring performer than Goldberg and wasn't dangerous to be in the ring, too.
But then again Goldberg is still going, and perhaps Brett is still bitter than that.
Because goldberg ended his career completely
Shawn and Vince caused Bret to lose money. Goldberg almost costed Bret his life
@@kraw3026But, it was Vince not keeping him causing him go to the circus and be in the ring with idiots, so it's partly Vince's fault , if Vince would have handled the situation better, Bret would still be on Raw, and he hasn't aged has bad has Shawn , so he would still probably be doing weekly matches and premium live events
Uhhhh…. Because Goldberg was a big buffoon who would injured many wrestlers
After starcade 97 with the whole Hogan and Sting thing... Goldberg kept WCW on life support after that, that was only reason why I was still watching.
Uhh "No one had ever gotten a push like this before."
Uhhh just a few years prior was the almighty Dingo Warrior himself Ultimate Warrior on national television.
Awesome Shoot Today Jim!!😎🐐🐐
Rey Mysterio accidentally killed Perry Aguayo with his 619, Rey Mysterio didn't get any heat from anybody about that, accidents happen all the time, why is that so hard for fans and Bret Hart to understand when it comes to Goldberg?
Oh crap, I forgot about that
Goldberg isn’t a wrestler is the problem
@@rikmichaels9233 he never killed anybody 🤷
@@rikmichaels9233 and Goldberg admitted that himself, so what's your point?
Because people like Rey and don't like Goldberg. Also Bret is sort of a Smark Whistler anyway.
these are so great. always good for laughs
I noticed how they didnt mention his match with regal and I hated how they tried to hold bret accountable for his career being ended yes you take a risk but dam come on and that kick dam should not of been done and with the figure 4 on the ring post he let bret fall backwards too
A&E &/or WWE misspelled the title of Goldberg's movie. "Santa's Slay" is correct. Legends had it Santa's Sleigh.
Eventhough I am a advocate for forgiveness; from Brett's pov Shawn or Vince didn't end his career. Brett LOVES wrestling and LOVED being a wrestler so he views Goldberg as the man that took that away from him so its very hard for him to get past that.
All love, peace and forgiveness.
My favorite Goldberg match was the one where he speared him and hit him with a jackhammer! I’ll never forget that one.
No one should apologize for getting an opportunity, especially if they make the most of it. But don't be so dismissive of folks that weren't as lucky.
The crowd for Hogan v. Goldberg was legendary.
Can't believe it was on free TV. Horrific management by WCW.
Eric Bischoff has said repeatedly that for their contract, for their sponsors, for their TV contract with TNT, and for their ownership by Time Warner (pre-AOL merger). Putting the show at the Georgia Dome and the match on Nitro was more important to the network to make money than it would have been to put it on PPV. It may have made sense to a wrestling company to think about PPVs, but to a television company it was not a primary concern to them.
@@hartfoundationhq A media conglomerate running a wrestling company makes as much sense as Amazon running a hipster grocery chain.
WCW was always putting PPV Main Events on free TV on Nitro during The Monday Night Wars....Hogan vs Luger....Goldberg vs Sting...I'm pretty sure Goldberg hoisting up The Giant for the Jackhammer for the first time was given away for free also. ..but to your point giving away Hogan vs Goldberg for free was the biggest mistake
Remember, this is the same geniuses that allowed beach goers and bikers to come and watch Bash at the Beach 95 and the Road Wild PPVs for free.
I honestly thought the documentary would be much shorter... Spear Jack hammer done
I implore everyone reading this to watch Louis Theroux Wrestling and especially his confrontation with the "Sarge".. Fucking golden TV.
@31:00 everyone focuses on the big names who sat out collecting their time warner contracts. DURING wcw's run, there were a ton of talent who barely and in some instances never appeared on tv were paid.
Corny never ceases, Goldberg was awesome back then and infinitely more watchable than a lot of what was on nitro back then. Who gave a shit if he was green and "couldn't work"? not millions of people anyway.
Goldberg was literally his walk from the dressing room right until the pryo hit. That was it.
and it made piles of money.
And it was more over than 98% of the roster so hey whatever draws the money
How's your guys' obvious "Remember When Goldberg Was Over" YT Comment Section Affiliate Marketing startup going?
Damn, no mention of the feud he had with Sid Vicious? I still remember that as being one of the standout feuds he had during his WCW tenure.
I remember Goldberg was in a battle royal or World War 3 and the Schivonne kept adding wins to the streak with every wrestler Goldberger eliminated.
Goldberg was the man from 96-98. After that, he and wcw were trash. Wwe Goldberg was a pure waste.
Um, Bill Goldberg didn't debut in WCW until fall 1997 against Hugh Morris. I remember watching that match.
@@indieauthorjasonblayne7511 i had it on tape. He got no entrance. Kicked out of No Laughing Matter, and said nothing to Okerlund
@@Smokey1419 I was just thinking about how he kicked out of that and walked away from Gene.
9/22/97. Same day as Austin stunning Vince at MSG. My 17th birthday.
I was at the Georgia Dome the night he one the title. I also seen the Road Warriors vs The Samoan Swat Team in the Omni. Same Pop
Goldberg had 2 big moments in his wrestling career...honestly..The title win at the Georgia Dome!...THE HOME OF THE DOME!(yeah I'm from Atlanta)..and the debut on raw with Hollywood Rock..
I'd say his return match against Brock 20yrs later at his age was another good moment
I was there WM19 weekend. At WM and at Raw, whenever they showed anything with Goldberg people were booing. HHH gave the finger at the Titantron during a commercial break at Raw when they showed the graphic for Goldberg coming and it popped the crowd big time.
But holy shit, when he actually came out when no one was expecting it with the Rock out there, the place exploded.
Also as stated before, his complete squash of Brock when he came back was a holy shit moment.
He had a few more. When he lifted the big show straight up was so impressive. The crowd was going ape ah!t. Same with when he won the US title from raven. Destroying the flock single handedly. Then picking that 7 footer up.
All you goldberg haters sitting in your boxers in mom's basement waiting on your welfare check just shut it
Who actually pulled the best match outta Goldberg?
Mine would be vs DDP at Halloween Havoc
Regal
I remember The State Patrol. I think that they were in at least one of the Crockett Cup tournaments.
That seemed to be how WCW turned a lot of their jobbers into stars back in the early 90s--put them in a tag team with another jobber and give them a gimmick. Hence, we had the Ding Dongs, the Dynamic Dudes, The Patriots (Firebreaker Chip and Todd Champion), the Destruction Crew (Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom)--even the Steiners--remember, Scott came in as a scrub until they teamed up with his brother, Rick--and pushed him to the moon!
I don't know if I heard it in this Goldberg documentary or in a shoot interview Bret Hart said Goldberg made Vader look like Shawn Michaels
I don't blame Goldberg for what happened to Bret. I blame WCW. Why would they put someone like Bret in there with Goldberg while he is stil, "trying" to learn? No fan or even Bret thinks he did it intentionally to hurt him. Bret just talks about his sloppiness and recklessness
Lol the State Patrol!
I watched a video the other day where they actually won a match believe it or not. Their finisher was a vertical suplex / clothesline from from the middle rope combination. (Almost like the Hart Attack).
They beat a couple other ham and eggers lol
Haha, I just saw them for the first time the other day and the one guy's name made me go "WTF?" too. You need a gimmick name and the first place you go is the guy that shot MLK?
Two examples I think show how mismanaged the Power Plant was - Van Hammer and the Renegade.
They also had the whole natural born thriller s . But the WWE ruined the ones they picked up when they bought WCW so
Seems like the only guy that came over from the WCW buyout that has successfully remained in WWE to this day has been Rey Mysterio. And who saw that coming? Because at the time, he was kinda buried in the WCW talent roster, not someone anyone expected likely to succeed 20 years later, out of anyone else
WOW
Thank you Jim. I would've never remembered the State Patrol tag team ever again in my life had you not reminded me🤣🤣
Wow that takes me back to my single digit years lol
Going off topic for a bit, I wonder if Jim has seen the Louis Theroux special on pro wrestling? There’s a segment where Louis trains at the power plant with “Sarge”.
Bill = MEH I just don't digg his shit.
Same here, but I can see the appeal.
Nikita Koloff is the closest comparrison to Goldberg. Probably would have helped to replicate the way they broke Nikita in. Hard to narrow down someone to fill the role Uncle Ivan played in teaching Nikita about the business, but Paul Ellering seems the only choice. The visual being that Goldberg was a one man Road Warriors and Ellering would have smartened him up a little.
I'm no where near a wrestling historian but even I know Andre The Giant had an undefeated streak, Oldberg.
If it wasn't for that one loss at Wrestlemania 5. Ultimate Warrior had close to an undefeated streak also. I don't remember him losing any other matches on his way to the championship .
That wasn't really an undefeated streak as Hogan had beaten Andre several times prior to WWF. WWF was lying when they said Andre had never been defeated, because ANdre had in fact lost multiple times by that point.
Indeed.
And you would be wrong. Andre lost a few matches. He lost to the sheik in the 70s and one in Iraq I believe
@@danday9697 He lost to Hogan multiple times before both went to WWF.
