Just in case anyone need: I replaced my thermal paste today. My strix 2080ti’s long pad turned out to be 1.5 mm thick. The one under the chip is 1mm to my best guess. I decided not to replace them cause they are still cool as ice and the green factory pads seem to be one of the best.

Just yesterday I decided to disassemble my GPU again to see how much pressure/ contact the VRM's made with the thermal pad. I noticed that the thermal pad, which I used in this video with a thickness of 1mm, was a bit to thin, thus I replaced it with a 1,5mm thick one, which should be the same thickness as the ones straight from ASUS. Also the question: where do you have another thermal pad under the chip on the PCB, which you mentioned has a thickness of 1mm? Both the Strix 2080, 2080 super as well as the 2080ti should have the same PCB layout.

This video was a life saver.
I have the same card. It was very noisy during games and I thought it's normal... until I checked the temps.
    Hotspot 108 C
I opened it up and to my surprize, the thermal paste on the gpu was all but gone.
A blob of MX-4 later, the temps dropped by 40 C to a much cooler and normal 67 C
    So, a big thank you.

So my 2080 strix got a few weeks hitting high temps but never notice until it became colder here, the GPU ran for 4 years of work as now.
Got to change thermal paste too and the pads as well, since many dunno the thickness and size, I wanna post them here (using cm as measurement):
    Long pad (near cooler): 1.5mm thick x 10.7cm long x 1.8cm wide
On pcb near the die: (All of them are 1mm thick)
    -1.2cm x 3.2cm
    -3cm x 1.2cm
    -6.1cm x 1.5cm
Thank me later if ya need to change them, my temps went down 30°C after t.p. change and pads

The proper sizes to purchase for the asus rog strix 2080ti thermal pad replacement are 120 x 20 x 1.5 mm for the longer vrm pad and 120 x 20 x 1 mm for the 3 shorter vram pads. For the 1.5 mm vrm pad, you do need the full 120 mm length to have a one piece replacement. There is also another set of chips to the left of the cpu that need a 1 mm pad. The frame sits on them too, making the total # of pads = 5. Right now, Gelid Solutions GP-Ultimate 15W is the best thermal pad on the market, from what I've seen. They sell on amazon and come with 2 pads per pack which is enough to do the job. The model #'s are tp-vp04-r-b for the 1 mm and tp-vp04-r-c for the 1.5 mm.

+1 Replaced the paste and pads in my ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 O8G GPU. (Jesus, what a mouthful. Putting the full card name so that others can find this video.) As others have mentioned, you'll need 1.5mm and 1.0mm pads, the 1.5mm pad to replace the long strip that goes next to the heatsink, as seen in this video, and 1.0mm pads for the memory chips. The memory chips are under the black bracket surrounding the GPU itself. Gamers Nexus have a tear down of the 2080 Ti which demonstrates how to remove the bracket. I used Thermalright Valor Odin thermal pads, and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme thermal paste. I'm seeing a 50°C drop in hot spot temps (!), and a 20-30°C drop in GPU temps.

I replaced the thermal pads and thermal paste on my ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080 OC graphics card today. I used NAB Cooling Supermax thermal pads and Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste. For the thermal pad thickness, I used 1.0 mm on the memory chips and 1.5 mm on the Mosfet and COILs. The temperature reduction was dramatic. For the GPU temperature, it dropped from 83.9C to 61C. The GPU Hot Spot temperature dropped from 107.1C to 72.1C. The memory temperature dropped from 91.3C to 68.9C. I used Unigen Heaven to run the benchmarks. I realized my 2080ti was throttling for some reason even though the core temp never got higher than 68c. The software I was using (NZXTCAM) wasn't showing me enough according to reddit, so I started using hwmonitor. I immediately noticed my mem temp and hotspot were 107c. Opened up the card to replace paste and pads. Assumed it was the pads more than paste because the mem temp was the hotspot. But lo and behold my factory applied thermal paste was the tiniest lil dried glob that covered half the surface and had dried to basically sand. Now my hotspot is 67c (memory) after a few hours playing apex @180fps. Core temp never hits 60 now and Im able to keep stable framerate/times for the entire session. Thank you so much for this quick/easy tutorial 🙏

@@iMimz Didnt have to swap pads. When I opened my card, the thermal paste was a tiny dried glob covering maybe a quarter of the die. I could tell that the paste was the issue so I decided not to mess with the pads. Changing pads should only be done if new thermal paste doesnt fix the heat issue. Replacing pads can be a bit tricky as all pads have different density. Its easy to have pads not be squishy enough or too squishy which then causes different issues. I ordered Gelid Ultimate 1.5mm but did not actually use them so I cant say if they work, but thats what my reddit research told me to buy.
