    a) STORY DISPLACEMENT is the lateral displacement of floor or point from its original position.
    b) STORY DRIFT is the lateral displacement of one level relative to the level below.
    c) STORY DRIFT RATIO is the story drift divided by the story height.
    Code requirements
    The Maximum Inelastic
Response Displacement, Delta m, shall be computed as follows:
    delta m = 0.7 R* delta S
EXCEPTION: Alternatively, delta m may be computed by nonlinear
time history analysis in accordance with Section 1631.6.
1630.10.1 General. Story drifts shall be computed using the
Maximum Inelastic Response Displacement, delta m.
Calculated story drift using delta m, shall not
exceed 0.025 times the story height for structures having a fundamental period of less than 0.7 second. For structures having a fundamental period of 0.7 second or greater, the calculated story drift shall not exceed 0.020 times the story height.
    As per UBC -97 Code

Hi... a question about checking story drift in the UBC 97 video Seismic load were used for calculation of displacement while in the ASCE method Seismic (drift) the results of displacement were different. Can you explain
the difference and which one to use?

While checking soft story, story displacement, torsional irregularity, what should be the stiffness modifier for the frame sections? Is it for serviceability or for ultimate load conditions?

Hello sir, i have a questions:
    1. You defined your seismic as UBC97 but you checked the drift based on asce provision. Is that okay?
    2. If i checked it using asce, should i also countercheck it using UBC97? (Checking drift using both codes(ubc/asce))
Thank you, and a very nice tutorial :)

    • @civilmdc
      @civilmdc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes I did..... ( and you can also apply any method against earthquake conditions)
And I have shown with both methods.... With UBC 97 Drift check and ASCE-7 16
and you have to check only with one method... Which ever suitable to you....
I have shown with both methods for demonstration purpose.
