@@thestain8004 I think the implication here is that Belmont was being really generous and when the saleswoman said "one coin" she meant a silver coin, not gold. A single gold coin was worth quite a lot in this era. It's hard to make exact comparisons to modern money since most people were extremely poor back then so the average person would be living on the equivalent of less than a "dollar" a day. But a gold coin would be more like a hundred dollar bill.

This show completely surprised me. I didn't expect anything from it for being an adaptation of a game. But it turned out to be one of the best western cartoons I've ever seen.

this show is consistently good throughout. The animation and art are great, and the story is very dark and cool

You don't force it into people's faces in a contrived manner, alienating everyone that isn't familiar with it.
You weave it into the scene organically, just noticable enough for the observant few that are familiar with it.
There are more refrence than you think in this series.

I liked how Trevor started to gain info about the current situation of Gresit, it reminds me how in for example: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, you walk and walk around all the towns gathering more info to make your adventure more easy (although due to the poor translation from japanese to english that information didn't helped so much). Also it may be a direct reference to one of the crucial aspects of a RPG, the dialogue between diverse characters.
Also, realistic talking, it makes a lot of sense what Trevor does, if you want to be updated about the situation, ask others.
And don't forget the "platforming" part where he was jumping over watery segments before entering the shit-pipe to get inside the town. Show's fucking great, the only one I've ever seen that was both good and properly honored the source material. We are lucky.

The poor translation hurts a bit, but its worth understanding that the JP dialogue was often as nonsense or outright lying as what we got, the townsfolk hate Simon because to their understanding, his actions and presence have blighted the land

It's like how you see him just looting random weapons and magical items as he goes along.
This scene no doubt is a homage to the meat. Well okay. Realistically you wouldn't find meat that's been buried in the walls. But still, this is as close as it gets to the source material. Especially since meat replenishes your health in the games.

it's not an anime, just a visually advanced animation from the DC animated movies related to New 52.
*Anima is a contraction of animation. They(Nihon) spell it Anime-shion because that’s how they spell it with characters( A-Ni-Me-Shi-o-n). It’s just the English word sliced in half for slang. People from Nihon do this a lot with English words such as “Comubini”(convenient store). Anything that is a cartoon is anima, don’t get it twisted. If you’re talking specifically about animation from another country you simply state the country the anima is from. It does not stand for any kind of style, that literally makes no sense when animation is moving pictures. A style of entertainment? Yes. A type of art style? No. For the way it’s drawn you can say it’s a type of eastern comic artstyle. But in the end every artist has his own style. I am literally sickened by the amount of ignorance, I mean just study.

He obviously did a lot of research into the lore and how the games work. But yeah I'm amazed how well written it is without going against the entire point of the series
But one thing that annoys me is that grant dynasty isn't In the show but men do I like Trevor's outfit in season 1.

I’ve barely played any of the old Castlevania games, most of my experience comes from let’s plays and YET I can still tell this show was made with love
I watched this scene and I was on a jerky binge for about a week!
This show is amazing
In case you are wondering: this is probably not a gold coin. We only see one side but it looks a bit like a bronze Bani, which was introduced into Wallachia by Radu I (who would be Draculas Grandfather).
A gold coin of that size would have been way too valuable to be used for any street level trading and wouldve probably bought not only the whole stand but a good chunk of the neighbouring stands.
Even today this coin would probably represent 300-500 dollars worth of materials if it was gold.
There is no way a gold coin like this would be traded so casually.
This is right around the time where silver coins got out of fashion in Wallachia and Moldavia. Which would have been a much more reasonable coinage to trade on a market, but still a single silver coin would probably buy a whole animal or at least a good chunk of it.
So considering the time, the buying power and the design there is a strong argument to be made that this coin is bronze and probably inspired by actual romanian coinage like the Bani.
A Moldavian Groschen would also be a possible inspiration for this coin. The “original” Groschen featured a cross design, but was used a few centuries earlier. Groschen made in Moldavia looked quite different, but it would be possible to mix these up.

Heh. It's probably like beef jerky or something, although I think they actually cook that. I could be wrong, but I think there's a way to cure meat by covering it with salt to draw out the moisture and kill bacteria. They probably don't do that now, but back in the fifteenth century they probably did.

It's okay... People would have been wetting their pants for this if they released it when Castlevania was at the height of its popularity. But now its target demographic has jobs and kids.

That's the thing isn't it? Adults have neither the time nor the same amount of enthusiasm (in general) compared to when we first played SOTN and even more-so for classic Castlevania fans.
On the flipside, Castlevania doesn't have any where as much significance to the next generation of gamers.
The result is that even though a lot of effort has been put into recreating small scenes like this, there isn't a lot of people who can appreciate it without having it pointed out to them.

I think if people loved Castlevania enough in their childhood, then the chance is pretty damn high that they will see this being aired.
The thing is, with what you call enthusiastic people, you would mean that those people would watch it. It's a problem, because quite a number of people played and liked Castlevania, but aren't necessarily huge fans of the franchise.

I’m getting into Symphony of the Night again , and now I want to , nay , NEED TO watch this show.
The first episode is good enough that it may ultimately set the bar too high for the rest, but it is so much better than any normal fan of Castlevania could have expected from an out-of-the-blue series based on it that I'm willing to have a little mercy unless they truly fuck it up. I'm a fan of the originals, and yet SotN is one of my all time favorite games, and this show pays homage to both. Most def worth a watch (or two).
