R n I Trim work is basic on a 99 F-350 any pointers. I'm having delamination in some areas but considering a totally new look fabric-wise. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

    I just replaced the upholstry on my Wifes' 2006 4 Runner and I swear whoever assembled the drivers seat was a day one rookie. I found almost every anchor point had 3 to 4 missed hog rings in each location. I've always used knotched slip joint pliers for my hog rings. Mainly because I don't do that much upolstry! But after all the time it took to remove all the Factories "extra" hog rings I broke down and bought a set of nice angled hog ring pliers.
    Mainly because I'm thinking of redoing all of my project cars seats.....
    Good video.
    My tip for the day:
    I usually will drop about a dozen or so, rings in one of those magnetic bowls, rather than have to sort through 500 tangled up rings in a bag. Much easier to seperate 2 or 3 and I can stick the bowl on any metal surface, even on it's side without spilling the hog rings. And a lot harder to knock the dish off the table and spill them all over the floor. Most seat bottoms only need 10 or 12 rings I've found. So a quick sprinkle of hog rings around inside the bowl and they are right there.

      @oldschoolautoupholstery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good comment! Thanks for the tips! I have also seen this in factory installations. What I do is drop about 10 hog rings on the table, and they naturally seperate.

    Excellent video 👍. Something I learned recently from a company that makes seat covers is to sharpen your pliers. If you make them more pointed it makes for a more seamless transition from the pliers' arms to the rings. I found it helps make it so the arm doesn't get caught as much on listings and foam and such.

      Hello Wes, I am so happy to hear the good news! Any stiff wire works well like a wire coat hanger. Listing can be bought by the roll or can be made from any fabric or vinyl. Please keep liking and watching!

    I'm putting some new upholstery on. Do I need to remove the old hog rings, or can I just leave the snipped halves in there? Thanks

      Hello Big, You could leave them in there if you want to, But I wouldn't. It just takes a second to remove them. Just sayin'. Please keep liking and watching!

    Hi there I’m in need of help… I have some cheaper hog ring pliers from Princess auto, they are approximately 3/4” wide and 1.57 mm in diameter… about 3/8” deep… I have 3 layers of vinyl with sew foam and I just can’t get to the rod I’m trying to get to!!! Do I I need deeper hog rings?? Larger hog rings in width? What do I need to do… I’ve even cut away some foam, holding the vinyl very tight at same time I just can’t push it in enough? Please help
