Thank you for introducing me to this fern. I love it. I can't tell you how many ferns I have sent to plant heaven. I've had this one 3months and counting. Thanks 😊
Thanks for sharing. I just purchased mines today so excited. So I had to come revisit your channel on the advice. Thanks for the perfect project to for the spring. I save my old bar stools to use them for whatever and this is perfect and I have extras baskets and liners yes . I can't wait to do this and too see your update.
LOL I think I got one about the same time at Walmart. Seems to be doing well. I did pot it up to a slightly larger pot than the grow pot it came in. I really like mine. Jeff is right in they are fairly easy to grow and a lovely dark green color.
I bought mine on clearance there as well - it was mislabeled but after way many steps I found the nursery (Costa Farms) that supplied that particular plant and emailed them. They identified it for me and were really helpful. It was almost completely dead but those are usually the ones I love to work with.
You're too young to remember, but many years ago the Boston Fern was the go-to fern for growing indoors. I swear you couldn't go into anyone's house without there being one. Personally, my favorite ferns are Rabbit's Foot and Birds Nest, although a big old Staghorn mounted in a tree is pretty nice.
Wow it would be really hard for me to say what my favorite fern is, there are too many awesome ones out there. My fav might be one of the tree varieties though. Birdsnest is prob my favorite of the epiphytic types. hmmmm...
Question: I have the moisture meter for my plants and though the top of the soil is dry, when I push it down, it wil show lots of moisture. What am I supposed to do ? Thank you for this video. I got this plant yesterday (at my local supermarket in Italy) but it hadn't any name or any care instructions. It was driving me crazy that I couldn't find it. SO HAPPY NOW THANKS TO YOU. T
In general it's best to go off the reading you'll get from a meter when you insert the probes roughly half the length of the probes, or the reading you'll get from the lower 2/3 of the pot. Kangaroo paw ferns like the moisture, so it won't hurt to just water it when the top inch or two of the soil feels dry. 😊
Hi, Nice fern, I love those large roots going around. You know how to divided them? By cutting a root & place it in water or directly in a pot with soil?
Thank you for the tip of rooting on sphagum moss! My plant just fell and a few pieces broke off and this is my favorite plant so I couldn't just throw them away without attempting a rescue. Wish me luck. :)
I have one that from the jump was not growing like it should. i tend to over water, too. after moving mine away from any type of direct light from any time of day (south facing window), and learning how finicky it can be (like all ferns) about needing more waterings yet very aerated soil, i finally started growing leaves. fingers crossed
Hi I found 2 leaves with a little root each from the gardener's work, and put them in water, they are not doing too well, should I maybe put them in soil?
Finally found a video about this fern. Thanks for sharing this. We had it hanging in the office and the dry/warm air completly dehydrated it. I took it home as they want to trow it away. Whats the best way to give it a long life again? All leaf and twigs to the roots are dried out. The roots look green and soft. Can i take all leaved off from the roots? I soaked her a bit to give some moisture as the pot felt dry. Can you please advice me?
hi, dirk! providing the plant with a nice humid environment while it rehydrates is the best thing you can for it. You can cut the dead foliage off right from where it comes out of the soil or rhizome. :)
My kangaroo fern gets full sun all day and I drown the thing. It's done so well! Its also adapted from being indoors and I'm always surprised at how well it adapts ❤
Hi ! I have one, bul it lost all it's leaves. I still having it green and the raisins looks fine . In my country was a very hot summer all the beginning 35-40. Can you help me 😮please
OMG. What a cutie.. reminds me of a oak leave a bit...with the wavy-ness of seaweed 😋 hmm. I keep my house a little under 60....and only have East and West windows...that are shaded by trees...you know what maybe I could try out one of these guys...🤔
Hey there, Susan! Their growth tends to slow in winter if you live somewhere with shorter days and cooler temps. Mine typically don't need as much water when they are inside during winter.
7/31/22- Thanks for this video, there are not many done on this particular fern. I recently got two and I am in love with them. However, one of them is losing leaves. It's not humidity and it's not lack of water as I have it with a wick for self watering. I'm thinking of taking the water away for one week to see if that's the problem. The other plant is super happy, so I am at a loss trying to figure out how to save this baby! 😭 I'm hoping someone sees this comments and if this happened to any of you, I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you!
I have a tropical Fern... And one of the leaves has these brown scratchy looking things on it.. Any idea what it can be? Should I cut it off?..I saw it on your plant too.. Those Brown things..
I just got one, it was a rescue from the clearance shelf at the garden store. It needs repotted, but now I am wondering if I should wait - it's early February and maybe to early?
If the plant looks like it could hang on for a couple of months then that would be ideal, but if you think it will die in it's current pot then absolutely go ahead and repot.
I just got one of these and I love it! It's from a larger plant. Should I expect it to look a little sickly right after a repot? I'm worried about the way it looks. It's been about a week.
Hi Jeff! My daughter gave me one of these for my birthday last week and I'm loving it! I did miss this video, but found it when I googled this fern. Great timing and information! Thank you! I hope it does well for me. Now I need to go watch your video on the Blue Star Fern because I 'd like to try one of them, too. The only other fern I have is a baby Staghorn Fern. I'm thinking about mounting it, but am a little afraid that I might somehow kill it. Do you have any Staghorn Ferns?
I have one of these guys and can not keep him alive... I have him in my shower, he gets watered every time I shower... and it STILL dries out and turns yellow.
I was thinking of doing that today after watching your video! I am going to put new soil in and take it out of the hanging nursery pot. Maybe that will help a bit. I'll keep you in the loop haha
sometimes the growers put them in an extra airy mix more suited to their growing environment than the average household. Though they like it airy, they will be fine in a mix which holds onto a little moisture also as long as it is allowed to dry some between waterings. yes! keep me posted! good luck!
Yes I have this mine is huge! It likes the Houston humidity. In summer I keep it in a shady part of my patio. During winter it lives in a sunny room with south facing windows
I really enjoy your personality interjected throughout your show.
Thank you for introducing me to this fern. I love it. I can't tell you how many ferns I have sent to plant heaven. I've had this one 3months and counting. Thanks 😊
Just got a small one today for $1.99. Love ferns. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for this info, that tip about the crown was totally new for me! I'm going to be a better parent to my fern now :)
Thank you for the tip on not watering the crown, makes sense!

I'm excited and waiting to receive this fern. I only have North exposure and use grow lights to subliment natural light. Thanks for the helpful hints.
I just picked up one of these bad boys at my local Walmart, I never expected to find one there lol. Thanks for the tips!!

Same. At the neighborhood walmart of all places

I just found one! Seems like they get them once or twice a year
I have a variegated Kangaroo Paw Fern on my wish list. Good tips! Thanks.
I would love a variegated one!
Thank you for making your videos it's specially fern Friday .
But I've learned a lot from you.
Thank you, Diana!
Lol. You are too funny. Enjoyed this so much
Thank you!
I love these I had one this summer but i left it out too long. I miss it and cant wait to get another one love the idea of the pillar of fern.
They are great aren't they!? I love how lush and tropical they look, not too mention they are so darned easy to grow!

I have 2 kangaroo ferns that have gotten unruly! How do I trim the dead off?do you have and instructional video?
Thanks for the tips! Mine is doing well, but I have been watering the center of the plant, not anymore!

@@TropicalPlantParty thanks for the advice. Time to give her some love!

full sun meaning like full, direct sunlight?!?
One of my favourite plants!
mine too!

go for it! those are some cool temps for indoors, there are a lot of temperate ferns that would probably do well for you. :)
Does it go dormant? Winter care in normal house? Thanx

I have 4 big ferns like this, about 7yrs old.....it suddenly started getting bald spots....any advice to help me out...
Have you ever divided them up? That can help.
@@TropicalPlantPartywish I can do that, but they are in baskets
My own smells like vanilla sweetgrass :P Does no one else detect the heavenly aroma?
Is it ok to bury the rhimzones?
I had a Victorian brake fern last year but ferns challenge me. I read that maidenhair fern is hardy in zone 5 but mine was not.
That has happened with mine also. Maidenhair should be fully hardy to zone 5 but mine don't normally come back for me either.
Is kangaroo paw same as Monarch fern? Thank you!
Good question. I don’t know but would love too....

I have Blue Star and Rabbit's Foot so far.
It is called Kangaroo Paw, because of the root. It looks like a little Kangaroo paw, rather than the leaf.
makes sense!
So no misting?? I too have mine in my shower 🤣thought I was the only one with plants in my shower!
I went backwards with this fern. I got all the others first, then got the kangaroo fern :P its a center point now :D
I've been searching for this plant online. I've had him for a year and he's not looking so good.
My God...these ferns grow wildly in my lawn. Been trying hard to eradicate them, but they are sooo hardy.
🤣😂 my houseplants are your weeds!
😎 cool
I have one of these guys and can not keep him alive... I have him in my shower, he gets watered every time I shower... and it STILL dries out and turns yellow.
Do you know what it is potted in? Maybe repotting one into a more moisture retentive soil mix would be helpful?
I was thinking of doing that today after watching your video! I am going to put new soil in and take it out of the hanging nursery pot. Maybe that will help a bit. I'll keep you in the loop haha

the question is, how often do you shower 🤔🤣
I just bought one. The soil was so dry i thought it was fake
They are pretty neat plants. Have you smelled it? Certain times of the year the put out a sweet aroma in the morning and evening.
@@TropicalPlantParty yeah it has a sorta licorice smell to me
That's what it is! I've been trying to figure out what the scent reminds me of for years! Licorice!
I bought one today, these are not
Supposed to be as delicate as a boston turn
Zi have one of these , I think 😎
Yes I have this mine is huge! It likes the Houston humidity. In summer I keep it in a shady part of my patio. During winter it lives in a sunny room with south facing windows
fyi: Foliage has 3 syllables.
Geez don't talk so fast, I literally couldn't understand much of what you said.
