I'm glad I find a POC veterinarian with a channel on here.... I've only got one experience as a volunteer for a few months and it's like everything else fell through. I tried for years then gave up. There are a lot of prejudice people in the field in my area.

The comment about the mobile vets knowing the best places to eat cracks me up. It's so true! Thanks for posting this :) It was very informative.

You had me at peach cobbler for large animal vets. Sadly I’m in crowded Southern California where it’s difficult to find large farms.

Jully Herrera don't worry on how long you have to wait. You're young and you have so much time to study right now until you're old enough to become a vet. The more you study before college the better. If you work hard on studying before you go to college then it'll be easier as you're going through college 'cause you'd know a lot already! :3

Hi, Im an 8th grader going into highschool and planning to join a vet science program that will give me a certification in vetenary science, after that I am not really sure what I should do, also if I take my basic college courses while in high school, would that be a good idea? And then go directly to vet school after high school? I am also wondering in what I should major in im pretty new to all of this school stuff, and im still not sure what to do after high school, thank u for reading this and hope you reply:D

How many years does it take to become a vet? And what college classes do I have to take to become one?

  • @ShyGoldCloud

Hello, I'm a sophomore in college getting a bs in biology with a concentration in zoology. I am doing research to try to understand the difference in animal experience and vet experience but still a little confused. I read a lot to ask the admissions office but they are outside of my city and I don't know if I should just email them. And the school I want to attend is asking for 100 hours minimum of vet experience.
So Animal Experience(hours) would be working/volunteering with animals like at Humane Society(like you said but not working under a vet, almost like just for fun), working at sea world or Petco, volunteering at a zoo(again not under a vet)?
As for Vet Experience(hours) strickly working/volunteering under a professional veterinarian like shadowing, like you said, in clinics or shelters or at zoos(under a vet)?
Also, can some vet hours be considered animal hours and vice versa?
    Thank you so much :D

Hello Samantha thanks for watching. I definitely recommend calling the admissions office even if you are out of state. Emailing is acceptable too but you may get quicker clarification speaking to a person by phone.
Regarding vet vs. animal experience, I strongly recommend checking with the schools you are interested in attending. Many of them give clear definitions and guidelines of what is considered vet or animal experience.
Vet experience is preferred regardless of where it is obtained (barn, zoo, shelter, laboratory), when it comes to vet school. So vet hours will most likely be accepted for animals hours, but it may not o the other way. What is acceptable for one school may not be at another.
Generally you are shadowing someone who has a high level of knowledge in the field, usually a veterinarian. Sometimes the veterinarian will oversee your volunteer program, but they will have you learn and work closely with the technicians. Most places will have certain criteria they require you to complete or learn about while you volunteer or shadow. At the end of your shadowing/volunteering rotation, they provide documentation of the number of hours you have completed.
Hope this answers your question and please share my videos with a friend :)

I have a question how long do you have to go to college to be a vet.

    • @meme-qg2gq
      @meme-qg2gq 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

it’s usually 4 years of undergraduate school (or however much time it takes you to meet the prerequisites.) and 4 years of veterinary school. and if you to be become board certified in a specialty that’s usually about 3 years extra after vet school i believe.
