      Thank you so much, your comment made my day. Every time I take a break from TH-cam I’m a bit anxious about being in front of the camera again, so reading your feedback made me so happy 😊

    Your recommendation to cut each pattern piece out separately to be sure you’re on the straight of grain makes perfect sense. I never thought of that before.

    Super overview of tips for sewing with knits. You hit all the important points. It's so important to test on those scraps you have before you use a technique. As you mentioned, each type of knit has its' own unique characteristics.

    Thanks for posting this. Nobody sews clothes in my area, except for one person and she insists she knows it all and her sewing is beautiful. It isn't and that person is just mean. Videos like this are the closest I get having in person interaction about sewing. All of what you mentioned should be taught in American basic sewing classes but isn't. 😢
    I like to use 3/4 inch clear elastic for stabilizing seams. Works with an color and American seam allowances are a bit small at 5/8th inch.
    I recently switched to the stretch thread for knits and stretch wovens. A total game changer and outstanding results. If you forget to do even a slight zig zag and end up a straight, the thread won't break. I have a knit stitch on my conventional machine that is a zig zag but looks like a straight stitch.
    I do punch holes into my patterns on the grain line to make sure that it exactly matches the stripes. I create a full front and back of the pattern for cutting and individually cut the sleeves.
    Jorgen recently told me that the biggest difference between my home sewn and higher brands of ready to wear is that my construction is of higher quality and looks nicer. I didn't think that he paid attention to my sewing.

    Yes! Maybe now my long detour into quilting will allow a lane for garment sewing again. Lightbulb moment: check that my serger needles are ballpoint or stretch. Never ever thought of that. Dah!

    These tips are even helpful for ready to wear! I had a dress that I loved, but it was four way stretch, so the side seams would stretch terribly if I tried to use the pockets. I had remembered what I had heard you say one time about that, so I sewed a piece of ribbon down both sides. Now no stretching!

      That’s such a great point, and shows that even in RTW they pick the wrong fabric for a design, so happy to hear you found a solution

    Awesome tips Johanna. I am still a bit nervous about sewing with knits and always gravitate to woven fabrics. So these tips will help me overcome that resistance and hopefully become more adventurous with my sewing. I have some great knit patterns and knit fabrics in my stash I want to try but keep putting it off. So here goes….😊

    Hej Johanna!

      Hej Eva!
