    Informative and well-communicated video. I would note, though, that some of this is very specific to fishing in cold weather months on spot lakes with bluebacks. A lot of pros, when they reference ditch fishing, are often talking about shallower ditches in the prespawn as largemouth move toward the spawning coves. Might be same ditches/creek channels, but further back and requiring different techniques. Just something to maybe make note of for your audience.

    • @campetro10
      @campetro10  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the feedback! Completely agreed, that shallow pre spawn ditch deal could be an entirely separate video itself. This video was specifically targeted for winter ditch fish in deep clear water ditches however depth is relative to the lake but the principles remain the same of how the fish use the ditches to move up and down them. I could definitely make a video this spring focusing on shallower ditches particularly around the spawn with the different techniques to catch them. Great idea!

    Do you base fish location on water clarity or is the ditch thing purely baitfish related / oriented? I know most spotted bass fisheries are usually fairly clear, but in a mixed fishery with water clarity of a foot or less would you graph it the same way or would you start in like 10 feet or less or suspend at no more than 10feet? Another great video.

    • @campetro10
      @campetro10  ปีที่แล้ว

      not at all for ditch fishing. water clarity can definitely move fish in general but the fish I'm targeting in the ditches most of the time, are unaffected by water clarity because they are deeper. i really am just looking for bait AND fish. you will find some ditches with bait but it may not have fish but finding bait is a great place to start. in a fishery with both spots and largemouth or just largemouth i keep the same principles of graphing for bait and fish but yes depth changes tremendously depending on the lake. Ive found "ditch" fish in 8-10 feet of water on other lakes I've fished. When i lived and fished in Texas a ditch could max out at 6-8 feet in some areas. I will give you an example: i recently went to clarks hill lake that has spots and largemouth and we found fish in 15-25 feet with pretty dirty water (1-2 feet of visibility).

    Perfect explanation of ditch's. I found your channel several weeks ago and enjoyed all your content. Six month ago install all lowarnace on my boat and with active target. Can't seem to get that clear of an image on my HDS 12, Do you have a direct power source to that unit?

    • @campetro10
      @campetro10  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Interesting, do you know what voltage you are getting at your Active Target (AT) unit at the front of the boat? It could be low voltage to either the unit or the actual AT module itself. Other than that maybe interference from other transducers on the boat??? I’m just guessing I’m not a professional. I actually don’t but you absolutely should if you can. Mine is just connected to my starter/ cranking battery. Is it perfect? No, but it works great.

    • @campetro10
      @campetro10  ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you! Gainesville Marina where is that? I'm joking 😂. I normally don't fish that far north on the lake but you can definitely catch fish in the ditches up there. i have caught a good number of fish up the rivers but they generally tend to be smaller fish. thats why i normally fish further south if i am able.

    I know this is an older video but after watching it again I had a question. It seems the water temps you are fishing in this video is in the 50s. Is it your experience that they ditch fish will rise and suspend at 30-40 on the bait and not just sit on the bottom?

    • @campetro10
      @campetro10  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cliff1422 no problem at all, yes this type of fishing is generally the best when the water is in the 40s and 50s. I have absolutely seen fish suspended under bait. The fish move up and down in the water column way more than people think for colder water. However, more often than not, the majority of fish will be closer to the bottom in my experience. At least for numbers or schools of fish.

    Now up on finding these ditches do you look for standing timber at the mouth of these ditches

    • @campetro10
      @campetro10  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      standing timber can be helpful depending on the day or the conditions but really i am looking for bait. I've caught many fish in ditches that are "clean" (without standing timber) that have bait in them so standing timber is not a requirement. it generally helps though.
