Love the video on jigs. I used to be one of those people who had no luck on jigs or confidence and after watching multiple videos of yours and taking your advice jigs have become one of my favorites lures.
Which one of the Zodias rods would you suggest for compact pitching jig I’ve seen an older video description you suggested 6’10” medium was that a mistake and should lean to the mh
@@JohnKoehler-vq9sx you could on the 6’10 M if you use braid. Using braid is like adding a power to the rod, making it act like a MH but braid around cover isn’t for me. I would get the 6’10 MH or the 7’2” MH
Fell in love with the jig this summer. Caught a few big ones and that thud you're talking about is addicting lol. I now have a full tackle box of jigs. Thanks for another great video Matt!
Yep, I was one of those guys who never understood how people had luck on jigs. After following you guys, I am a jig FANATIC. Thank you so much for the awesome info
I love these jig videos Matt! I have really updated my jig fishing because of them! Not all jigs are created equal for sure. I have been fishing with the Dirty Jigs exclusively now and mostly either the Yamamoto Green Pumpkin black flake or the Cinnamon with various flakes. The fellow who fishes with me most of the time has started calling me the jig master and it’s all because of you and Tim’s advice on how to do it. Now I’m finding myself throwing a jig 99.9% of the time because I’m doing right and catching the bigger fish. Thank you for your advice and perfect explanation of how to do it the best way!!
There's a lake here I get skunked on 90% of the time and it's full of huge fish. First time I ever tried a jig there I caught 7 fish that day. Since then, I love the jig. It has brought me so much confidence after my first time using it. I throw it everywhere!
Thanks, gentlemen! I’ve been watching your winter/cold water fishing videos for tips on how to be successful when I fish my home lake. Well, I caught 3 bass on the jig you recommended and a monster bass on a finesse swim bait with a Tactical Bassin underspin paired with a 3” Crush City Mayor. I appreciate all your videos and everything you do for us anglers. Thanks again!!!
That mini underspin with the Mayor is deadly!!! I’m in SC and caught 39 largemouth one day on that and the shower blows in November this year. Fantastic. Go get em brother!
Really started concentrating on bass 5 years ago. Used to live on the texas coast and concentrated on salt water fishing. Moved to an inland area in AL and began to work on bass fishing. It took a while but I also have joined the rank of the jig fanatics. It has taken me 5 years to get comfortable with them and they are now my staple year round. Early years it was a struggle but I kept with it. Thanks for everything you and Tim have done with this channel. Have learned a lot from you two. And yes, you are right you can catch big bass year round on them.
I'm obsessed with catching fish on jigs and the art of flipping/pitching/skipping them. I just gotta practice and learn how to do it properly and effectively. I've caught a couple from pitching laydowns and it's the most fun way to catch bass for me.
Great jig video. I love fishing a jig especially in the winter and have caught some of my best fish of the year dragging or using slow short hops in the winter with both football and ball head jigs.
Thanks Matt. I downsize my jig profile thanks to you. Great Lakes Juvy craw has been money this week on TN R. Fish blowing up on your left shoulder at 24:18 😂
When I was a young teenager my uncle introduced me to jig fishing. He bought me some of the old rattling casting jigs for my birthday one year. I fished a lot of ponds in the area back then. I would chuck it into the brush let it fall to the bottom then lift it up and shake it. And the fish would come over and crush it! Nowadays I fish jigs way differently. Usually dragging a football jig on the bottom. Or flipping/pitching a jig to targets like brush etc. Either way I love catching them on a jig. Color and trailers are definitely important and scent in the winter time is key.
Jig fishing is something I definitely have been easing into my fishing style. Winter time is still my kryptonite but hopefully taking the advice here from you guys will help and I can eventually put it into my confidence for the colder months. I will smash em come spring time no matter what though!
I'd love to see your buddy in wa state do a video about winter patterns and what is working best right now in the PNW. Love the videos guys. Thanks for the info.
Awesome a new video. I’ve been watching old videos of you guys. Just watched the one where Tim lost the big bass on a frog in the winter on chick. Three years ago
That day was brutal! We're putting out brand new videos 6 days a week (3 full length, 3 shorts) so if you're not getting new content just come check for it. Full length vids run on Mon, Weds, and Fri and we haven't missed an upload in 7+ years.
I’ve kayak fished this one lake near my house inside and out for 2 years and was too stubborn and inpatient to use a jig until I tried it two weeks ago. I caught the biggest bass out of this lake I’ve ever seen (5.6lbs) unbelievable results
I am a shore guy. I have only gotten a few bites on jigs. Of course that dosnt stop me from collecting them lol. I need to throw them more and feel the magic
Love the jig and going w the football in recommended colors rotating w 1/2oz mopp w jumbo pork. - speed crank grenade keep it simple cover water. Merry Christmas
Great video Matt. Oddly enough this last year hasn’t been a good jig year for me where the year before was on the same river system of water. Still have one tied on and still toss it but not many fish. Kieteck tungsten with a dt grub and various sizes of hula grub including the new small one. Love your guys content it’s always a “ must see”
Yep,originally I told bassgeek about how I liked fishing a small Ned head inside of a 2 1/2 inch finesse tube so that I could use much lighter line to get a better hook set and on spinning gear. It also helps if fish are line shy to down size line especially in the winter.
I drag 1oz tubes on lake Michigan for lake trout off of Chicago in my boat in the winter our lakes are frozen now no bass fishing till March 😑 but lake trout are fun 🎣👍🐟
Love the vids you guys should give Elliott fishing rods a try specifically the spinning models. They are made in Minnesota and are my favorite rod I have ever used. I own a couple exprides and rods around that price point.
My ultimate confidence bait is the hula grub on a texas rig. I've caught more big fish on that than any other technique. Definitely going to try it on a football head and see if I like it.
@tacticalbassin Ty, had a nice session and had a few pike and perch in the boat before the water started to ice up. Crank (Norman deep little N) and jerk bait (beastly minnow) was key. Pike like the burn/kill retrieve, surprise surprise. xD
Thanks so much for the videos. I try to watch them to learn. I went today and the fish were in the deep part of our local 600 acre lake. However, they were suspended from 25'-35' of water with water depth of 40'. If you drag a jig on the bottom will they react to it. Seems too deep for a crank bait. What would you throw when they are suspended at this depth?
The only people I know who catch fish on a jig are on TH-cam. I also own a online tackle store and jigs are the slowest selling lures in my store that sells to 50 different countries....
I have fished silty bottom water most of my life, that silt can help because it helps with the illusion of a crawfish rooting around. I fish heavier than normal football headed jigs that push silt up when I move the jig, even in shallow water.
We've absolutely smashed them on flipping and pitching jigs in Florida 👍 In fact my biggest Florida fish this year was on a jig. There's no doubt, worms are a thing there, but the jig is highly underrated.
I couldn't get a braillist, so I got the 7 ft med hvy orochi xx tour versatile I think it is. Which is fine, I fish out of 14 ft Jon or my kayak. Hopefully it's as good as the braillist.
Love dragging football jigs. Didn't say anything about black and blue? Is there a reason? Time of year or location? Or just preference? Hope you guys at tactical bassin have a Merry Christmas!
TB Brothers have yall played with the Bill Lewis SCOPE-STIK 100 The small one yet?? Or anyone else. I just got some in and crushed em in the marsh lost count at 60 some odd bass this morning. In the first 2 1/2 hours before the tide checked up and pushed me out. Tomorrow will be in the surface drive or long tail. And get on the back side the tide and fish tell the tide start coming in and push them out the deep holes. Dun it with the CAJUN PEARL it’s got that NEON GLOW like the Hot Popcorn sign at a drive in movie.
Hey guys my jig game needs work. I've caught a few but it's not a confidence bait yet. I live in the Orlando area and fish from Kissimmee Chain to the Harris Chain. I'm guessing with all the grass and muck on the lakes here I'd fish the pitchin' jig not the football head. Am I correct and is the slow pull the go to technique for this time of year? Great video as always and thanks for all great content over the years!
Great video. Any recommendations for a jig that won’t catch up on grass or slime. Many thanks. I normally go for light bfs style and was think about keitech mono spin jig but just not sure if they would catch a bigger fish?
Awesome video! Out of curiosity, what camera/filming setup do you use? I am starting a new fishing channel and I really like the quality and angle of yalls videos! Thanks!
Hey Matt, right now my most powerful rod is a croix legend xtreme 7’1” MHXF. Looking maybe into a dedicated jig rod but don’t feel like spending NRX+ level. What would be a good equivalent to that 844C MBR in a slightly more affordable line like the Orochi XX/Expride/Adrena area? Unless you think that legend extreme will be fine. Thanks for your input and thanks for everything you guys do for this community!
I made a mistake and bought I flipping jig and I don't know how to flip my question is is there another way to use it without flipping I know how to jig already but I am not sure can fish it like any other jig instead of flipping it
I enjoy throwing the jig but have only caught a handful of LMBs on them. For the cost of the amount of jigs lost in comparison to the amount of bass caught, the jig just isn't cost effective. I have about 12 left in my tackle box. After they are gone, I don't think I will continue to invest in jigs but move towards investing in hard baits.
The Braillist is an amazing rod, but it's a bit stout for finesse style hooks. It's my preferred rod for a pitching jig. However, if you don't already own one, it has been discontinued.
as long as ur not talking about moss/algae/gunk type nasty bottom lakes.. and actual grass bottom... dirty jigs compact swim jig or their finesse swim jigs on sale on their website & is specific for grass w/ the shorter cut skirt.. slow swim it w/ a slow moving trailer.. unlike in warm water when ur shaking that thing back to the boat..swim it right thru or just above that grass .when u feel it get hung up or caught in it.. just pop pop it right thru & continue on! if their in it... they'll bite but u gotta bring it right to them
hair jigs are also killer this time of year too depending on ur fishery! I fish a few Derby's a year on Kentucky lake so I put my time in as a kid w/ my uncle who fished the FLW tour for 10+ years learning about em for ledge fishing.. & thankful for it becuz its also another tool in the shed for catching cold water bass too

I love when they hit the jig on the fall, and you see your line swimming away

Love to see a video on Spotted Bass during Winter/early Spring updated on any new tips! Love the jig videos…

Great as usual Matt, thanks for the tutorial and keeping it to the point, no video fluff but all well worth watching!
Thanks for all the content Matt and Tim, got my current PB on a jig in December love em. 8 lb 5 oz
Great video, been wanting to start using jigs especially now with the cold weather. Thanks for sharing and educating. Appreciate it.

Just got a new jig rod, Dobyns Champion xp 703 and a box of dJ supermatt browns, hoping to get better at jig fishing this winter! thanks Matt!
I’ve found a mouse head grass jig works great specifically the thunderhawk company it slides through heavy cover and grass so smoothly
I drag 1oz tubes on lake Michigan for lake trout off of Chicago in my boat in the winter our lakes are frozen now no bass fishing till March 😑 but lake trout are fun 🎣👍🐟
Great tips Matt thanks bud 👍🏻
I remember when I couldnt catch on jigs. Its still a slow jig bite here but ill leave my boat home before I leave my jig box.
I love a jig. Biggest I got off a jig is a bit over 5lb. I’m just waiting to break my pb of 9 with a jig hopefully that time is coming.

Great video. Any recommendations for a jig that won’t catch up on grass or slime. Many thanks. I normally go for light bfs style and was think about keitech mono spin jig but just not sure if they would catch a bigger fish?
Matt/tim have u guys experimented with the raid micro jigs? Just got some seems like an incredible hook in these things.
Amazing video. Just bought a bunch of these jigs because of your videos. How long is your leader to braid?
Awesome video! Out of curiosity, what camera/filming setup do you use? I am starting a new fishing channel and I really like the quality and angle of yalls videos! Thanks!
Great video , when you use braid to leader , how long use the leader?
6-8 feet unless the water is crystal clear.

Yamamotta must have brought back those smaller hula grubs.I have packs of those that are every bit of 15 years old.
Do you still trim skirts in the winter
Do you guys have any opinion on living rubber vs silicone skirts on your winter football head jigs?
How would you tie on your jigs ? . Loop knot,or regular knot ? I'm trying to get better at jig fishing.
Reg .knot a loop knots breaking strength is way less then any other knot you can tie.
Thanks for information @@Fishboy68
Try the live target jigs looks like a live craw
Matt, what about jigs and ponds with light/sparse/ dying back grass. Is that a compact pitchin jig? Thanks
Yes, I'd use the compact pitchin' in that situation.
I made a mistake and bought I flipping jig and I don't know how to flip my question is is there another way to use it without flipping I know how to jig already but I am not sure can fish it like any other jig instead of flipping it

Matt I live in Indiana and I have seen where a beaver style trailer is all they want. Water temp 45 and lower. Have you experienced this? Great video!
100% we've seen that in the California Delta in Winter. It's that "dead action" where you've got a great profile, but no movement.
@ it always amazes me they hit hit so hard sometimes that you can hear the line bouncing through the guides.
What are your opinions of the 873 crr?
Can we get a Tim video on winter boots that keep your feet warm?
Would you recommend the Orochi XX Braillist: as a cheaper option to the Gloomis
The Braillist is an amazing rod, but it's a bit stout for finesse style hooks. It's my preferred rod for a pitching jig. However, if you don't already own one, it has been discontinued.
Thanks, I assume the Bass X would be the cheaper alternative to capmpre to the the action of the G Loomis for finesse jigs
The lake I fish in has a lot of grass on the bottom, so I don't throw too many Football jigs. What other jigs can I throw instead?
For grass, your best jig is a true flipping jig.
as long as ur not talking about moss/algae/gunk type nasty bottom lakes.. and actual grass bottom... dirty jigs compact swim jig or their finesse swim jigs on sale on their website & is specific for grass w/ the shorter cut skirt.. slow swim it w/ a slow moving trailer.. unlike in warm water when ur shaking that thing back to the boat..swim it right thru or just above that grass .when u feel it get hung up or caught in it.. just pop pop it right thru & continue on! if their in it... they'll bite but u gotta bring it right to them
hair jigs are also killer this time of year too depending on ur fishery! I fish a few Derby's a year on Kentucky lake so I put my time in as a kid w/ my uncle who fished the FLW tour for 10+ years learning about em for ledge fishing.. & thankful for it becuz its also another tool in the shed for catching cold water bass too
@tacticalbassin Thank you for the feedback
@TheRealMrSix thank you i will try that
If it is a silly question I completely understand
Am I the only one who can't find a brailist in the Orochi xx line ? I picked up the brailist in the Levante line and I'm super excited to get it in the water. I'm just so confused every time Matt or Tim talk about the brailist in the Orochi line.
The Orochi XX line has now been discontinued and the Braillist sold out first.
@tacticalbassin ooooh got it. Do you still like the levante Braillist for jigs and Texas rigs or would you use that for another style ?
I see the big screens are covered for the video. Hate bass masters, etc. Love bass fishing
It’s true. Pigs 🐖 love jigs.
Facts!
As Coach Klein says "visualize & attack"
Must be terrifying being a crawdad and a 12 pound bass rolls up on your ass lol
0:29 !
RIP Megabass Orochi XX Braillist
🎄😎🎣❤️
My whole life I have never used a jig and caught plenty of 5-8 pounders.
Jigs n worms my bread n butter, 2nd only to jerks n spinnerbait
You give me a jig and a jerkbait. I could probably catch fish year round
I know you probably had anchor poles down to keep yourself in place. But it would have been hilarious if you ended the video saying "now how do I get off this sandbar".
Yea I have little stubby fingers
First!
🥇🏆🎉🎆
The way I learned jig fishing was take all my rods out the boat and only take my jig rods.
That will do it!
@ definitely helped a lot for sure before that I hated fishing a jig almost as bad as spinning rod
All the bots
I spend my first few minutes reporting all of them while listening to the video.
They're terrible! We clean them up every morning.
This is VERY easy with a sonar... Try it from the bank on a pond youve never fished before and then make a video 😂
You say that like we haven't done dozens of those too 😉
I lose every jig I use. Doesn't matter what head style I use. I always get hung so bad I have to break off. I quit wasting my time an money
I get a lot of my jigs from wacky worm in gilbert pA. Local bait and tackle
