I remember getting Achtung Baby on vinyl in late 1991. They had put the main colour label on the B side, so I assumed that was the A-side start of album. I listened to it, thought it was great, then just imagine my reaction when I listened to the actual A-side. I remember being blown away by it.

If you look at any Noel interview over the last 30 years he didn't really mention them that much, Liam mentioned them every two seconds but Noel really didn't, I always found his influences to be more 70's than 60's

A couple of interesting little nuggets about Noel's taste in this vid. Firstly I was little surprised how much he likes TFF, but they did write great 80's pop songs, Everybody Wants To Rule... is amazing. It's still surprising how he chose them over anything by say The Stone Roses for example.
Also when he says U2 had a musical revamp after Joshua Tree, it was actually after the album Rattle and Hum, which got a lot of negative reviews at the time. There was an interesting BBC doc on Achtung Baby in 2011, Bono said it was the Madchester dance rock bands The Happy Mondays and Stone Roses in '89/'90 which made them realise they had to modernise their sound.

It got some critical reviews when it came out though, that was my point.
The band felt out of time with the new styles they were hearing while they released and toured it.
That’s why they went to Berlin to come up with a new sound for Achtung Baby.
A similar thing happened with Underworld, who were a synth rock band in the late 80’s.

I'm a music snob with 1000s of CDs, but Abba were fucking pop geniuses. Dancing Queen takes me straight back to University in the 1990s and the nights out trying to pull girls as it used to get played to death along with Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Noel Knows his music. Apart from Tommy being released in 1969, but that's just nitpicking. The Kinks were amazing. Waterloo Sunset one of my favourites. The perfect pop song. Rolling stones jumping jack flash a classic. As a single it had child of the moon on the b-side, makes it one of the greatest singles. Bowie is a legend. I would have chosen life on mars or something from hunky dory or ziggy stardust. Not a fan of U2 but I do have joshua tree which is a classic album. Great choice of public image by p.i.l. the who were great in the '60s and who's next album from '71. The la's' there she goes is a classic tune. If you didn't know better you would think it was from the '60s. I knew it was about heroin. 'racing through my veins' gives you a clue. Echo and the bunnymen, the smiths and the jam are all great bands. The only doubt I have is abba. Is he being serious? Taking the piss? Whatever, he does have great taste in music. That's without mentioning the greatest the beatles. I also thought he would have had a stone roses track. Nice one Noel.👍
