@@Jominycrocket0 I'm inclined to agree with Jamie, just as Noel was. They didn't mean anything. You look at them individually, and they don't mean anything. They're just a collage of good lines, but they don't paint any real story except for whatever you ascribe to it. And I think that's actually what I loved about what Noel said here. It was not an extraordinary song, but the people made it extraordinary in the way it brought them together by some sort of force nobody could just conjure. From Noel's perspective, I can't imagine how humbling yet honouring that must feel -- that whatever you did there was something HUGE but you had absolutely no clue or plan to it because you were just being you. That's amazing.

@@Givea_shit That's it mate, they struggled in US, but they got a chance to hit big there but they lost it. Liam went back to UK in the middle of their MG US tour (which would've been very important), they also messed up their MTV Awards presentation and last but not least: Be Here Now wasn't as great as WSTMG (even though I like the album). If Be Here Now were as great as WTSMG, and trust me it had the potential to (b-sides, better production and better length), they would've have been a big hit in US, though I don't think they would be as big as The Beatles, but I think they would've deserrved to be called the 90's Beatles (for its success not music, please don't get it wrong)

I think every British person has heard the line "stand up beside the fire place, take that look off your face" at some point or another, from a moody parent or grandparent. And "you might find a better place to play." Theyre relatable images, scenes that EVERYONE experienced during childhood. That might explain why it has such a nostalgic sentimental feel, to millions upon millions of people. Because we all know those lines. We lived those lines.

The lyrics and chords give a similar feeling to watching a Dennis villeneuve movie. The editor of his movies calls his images “brain stemmy”. It invokes stimulus at the back of your brain in a way that can’t be articulated with words, but it’s from a place that’s deep and familiar. The flow and vague, yet relatable, lyrics with the notes (I’m not a music theory guy) of the song give those same feelings.

An interesting theory is that it's about when Noel was going to leave Oasis after the Whiskey Agogo gig. He went to stay with a woman he'd met in San Francisco for solace and to escape the band and the press. The woman, Elissa, or something like that, ended up convincing Noel not to throw it all away, and even at the expense of their falling in love with each other, to go and rejoin Liam and the band, and reassured Noel that she would not be angry with him if he did, quoting that she understood his situation and that she would not look back in anger for the time they had together. She also advised him that he did not have to put his identity or who he is in the hands of a rock and roll band - he could rejoin the madness of touring and fame without losing himself.
Other songs from this writing period often reflected on the woman he loved who was now 'half the world away', and that she may see him sometimes back in the madness - 'in a champagne supernova in the sky'. In fact the whole What's the Story Morning Glory album reflects this period of Noel's life. The term (What's the story) Morning Glory was the way 'Alissa' (?) would great him if he called her. So... (Drum Roll), this woman is likely to be Sally, even though the original lyric was 'So, sorry can wait'. A happy accident to be sure... But it ties up nicely.
Aaaannnnd that's the story (Morning glory).

What amazes me is how similar the writing process of this song is when compared to the one of another song: Sally, by Vasco Rossi. Almost the same character (Sally) in both songs

I love oasis and I went to river plate stadium, where the famously don't look back in anger took place.
    Thanks for the video

Always reminds me of a "Song for Suzie" by Head, Hands and Feet with guitarist Albert Lee...especially the rift @11:40. Both quality songs.

Oasis might not have the same legacy as the beatles but guaranteed some of their songs will live forever. I've sang wonderwall and champagne supernova to American audiences and they've dang back like it's Hey Jude

Great video of my favourite song :) means so much to me and to other people, just magic. Heard it several times live and it's always a fantastic moment when the whole crowd sings together. Few months back I got this inspiration and asked my favourite tattoo/illustrator of a tattoo showing her interpretation of Sally. Turned out great

This dude was the best! Oasis helped me throughout my childhood. I remember saving whatever funds I had to buy cassette tapes of their albums. My Walkman used so many batteries as well lol.

I know who Sally is, she was my daughter who had special needs. We lost her whilst on holiday. She had a fit went into a coma and faded away in Newcastle hospital. When I hear this song I always think of her, sometimes sing along, sometimes cry.

You messed up , yes you cant do anything with that. But thats life. Keep moving on, dont regret it, lesson learned and dont look back in anger. Thankyou sir🙏
