I'm OK with any design that makes sense but I don't like the use of words that cause confusion for consumers and investors. We a way to identify all cars that have a tailpipe no matter what combination of other power they have so EV is reserved for electric cars. In my mind that is an "attempt to deceive" when tailpipe cars use those terms.
We own two 2017 model Toyota Prius vehicles and have had no major issues with them while getting around 50mpg.
