  • Croatia is celebrating the opening of a new bridge in Peljesac, which links its southern-most region to the rest of the country. In the past travelling between the two was only possible by ferry, or by driving through Bosnia-Herzegovina. The bridge was mostly paid for by the EU - but built by China.

Untrue comments about restricted passage under the bridge because just two weeks a big cruiser passed underneath without any problems whatsoever and also the coastline of BiH is part of Herzegovina and is 98% populated by Croats and also the Neum Bay simply has no the depth for further development as its main purpose is the production of shellfish. Anyways, this historic linking of most southern coastline of Croatia with the rest of the country will prove to have great impact not only for Croatia but also for the whole region!

Croatia is very safe, you can walk almost any street at any time of the night without worrying.
Violence is very rare here. But, for past 2 decades I've seen a lot of propaganda on foreign sights, implying similar things to what you were told.
We are definitely significantly safer than France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and so on...
By significantly, I mean only a fraction of violent crimes, maybe even an order of magnitude less. Only type of crime we have is tax avoidance, corruption and other "white collar" crimes.
