This is the best machine available! I got it a week ago. Hands down it’s worth the money. It does get “stuck” when you use shagged tobacco. Just grind the tobacco and it works great! There is no machine that you can do multiple at one time. I came from the Topomatic T2 to this. It took me an hour to do about 40 on the T2. On this machine, I did about 400 in an hour. Worth the investment!
Yeah, with cervical collapses all down my back, this has made it a nightmare for me. I'm lucky to get 70 done. Too much jamming & I don't keep the OHM moist anymore, or forget it. I keep oiling my Top-o-matic. It makes 100's, even though it's for King only. The powermatic 2 is crap. Never did I use that little hopper as it gets in the way. And, rarely did it ever make a size 100.😜
Shagged? What does that mean in relation to tobacco? I'm from The Netherlands and I have been looking at some reviews of these machines and the reviews and stuff are very useful and straight forward, but the tobacco Americans use, that's fascinating! 🤣 To say the least! For one, we do have what we just call shag and that's finely, slightly long cut hand rolling tobacco. When we buy tobacco and it says nothing else on it, it's slightly thicker and shorter cut tobacco especially for filter tubes. And pipe tobacco is thicker and longer cut tobacco. And we have the best tobacco blends (also in cigars) and teas, because obviously we have a long colonial history with slavery, trading, and plantations. The VoC was founded here. And obviously none of it is grown in Europe. And for some reason we manage to sell the worst cigarette tobaccos and Germany sells mostly the same brands in a higher quality (less ruined with extra chemicals) tobaccos. But most cigarette tobacco comes from the US, right? Most tobaccos I've seen or smoked are blends of Kentucky wiiiith... Virginia tobacco? So what gives? Why do we have tobacco cut especially for filter sleeves and the US, where the tobacco comes from seems to not have that? I would also love to know why The Netherlands, where many tobacco companies are/were, has the worst chemicals mixed in the tobacco, and Germany for instance does not. It's especially bad with all hand rolling tobacco, but it's also true for filter tobacco. I buy Pall Mall in Germany, just over the border, and when I buy the same brand in The Netherlands it's a different, sharper tobacco, mixed with all kinds of weird chemicals. And for Malboro tobacco it's the other way around. It's truly a mystery to me. And ready made Lucky Strikes in The Netherlands are horrible crap, and in Germany they're the best. I would expect tobacco to be the same for every brand all over the world because they're grown in the same places and made in the same factories.
I've had this machine for about 2 years. We've rolled over 65k cigarettes on it. In that time we've figured out that...Yes, if your tobacco is too moist/humid it will jam A LOT. To work around this issue, we take about a hopper full of tobacco out of the bag and spread it out on a paper plate and let it sit for a couple of minutes, then put it in the hopper. Then before rolling any cigarettes, spread a substantial pile of tobacco on the plate to air out while you roll the first hopper full. The rest of the tobacco on the plate will be ready as you go. another thing that helps is when filling the hopper, kinda sprinkle the tobacco in until the hopper is full...it should be relatively "fluffy". There is a learning curve, eventually you'll rarely get a jam...but, they will become a bit more frequent when your machine gets as old as mine. As far as the powermatic 2 and 4...there is NO WAY, I am going to sit there and fiddle with the tobacco for EVERY cigarette.
It should be noted that smoking tobacco that's not driied correctly will have a much worse effect on the lungs. Always dry it as much as possible but not to the point where it's crisp and falls apart.
Yes stock up when it's not humid and this machine will treat you right do not roll when it's humid that's 99% of the problem my 30 years rolling says so..I have this machine and will not roll when it's humid all rollers are sensitive to humidity aka moisture 😂
For people wondering about this machine and the shag cut... I can make great constant cigarettes, however every 2-3 cigarettes i have to open the hopper and do a quick fluff of the tobacco. The moving parts tends to compress the tobacco at the bottom and it makes it throw a "hopper" notification. If you have the power matic 2 or anything similar or any machine that youre good at i recommend you stick with that . I will also add that today i used some tobacco that was too moist which caused the "Jam" to pop up. I cleared out the tobacco and replaced with a ready to go tobacco and now its throwing up the "hopper" sign every cigarette. Ill find out later but i think my machine is done only after 300 cigarettes.
Make sure you're not rolling when it's humid and make sure tobacco is not moist I use this machine 1 time per month roll 6 cartons no problems at all but I've been rolling over 30 years
Have owned mine for around 4 years and rolled 25000 cigs (125 cartons). The cost per carton is roughly $13-$14 compared to an average price of $50 per carton for generics. That means I've saved over $4000 including the sub $200 cost of the machine. I also now prefer my cigs over my old fav, Marlboro. Yes, it has several hopper jams every time I use it to roll a batch of 50. However, if you simply lift the hopper lid and hit the start button, it will eject a fully filled cig. If it still wants to jam on the next couple cigs, I reach in with a pair of scissors all the way down to the loading slide at the bottom of the hopper and slice the tobacco. I do that a couple times and that always fixes the jam. Only takes a couple seconds so, while it is annoying, it's not a big deal. I cannot recommend this machine enough.
I am on my 2nd Powermatic 3. I do like the machine. I want a fully automated machine that after loading tobacco and tubes I only have to press a button. I see that Powermatic 5 does this and I hope they put in a stronger motor so tobacco jams are less occurring. Those who own powermatic 3 know if the tobacco is not cut perfect jams occur costing time , I think this could be the internal tray loader for the tobacco right before the injector begins. Powermatic needs to solve the jamming issues and then Powermatic will have the best machine on the market.
Hello. For everyone on here having trouble with jams and/or "Hopper" errors on the Powermatic 3+ I have suggestions that will help. First of all jams are usually due to either the tobacco being too moist and/or sticky, like trying to roll using a moist rope cut. The compactor rams in this machine will turn the load into a sticky plug. Result jam. Same for if the tobacco is too dry. The compaction will turn the tobacco into dust that will compact and jam the machine. Feel the tobacco in your hand and ensure it does not turn into dust when you rub it between your fingers. If it does, seal it in an airtight container with some air pillows or even spread it out on a baking sheet and mist the heck out of it before sealing it up to let the moisture reinfuse the tobacco. I will cover hopper errors and my solution in a subsequent comment.
Just couldn't find any solution. I've tried all different tobacco's & moist, dry. I can tell when I touch the tobacco whether it's going to be a good one or not. Time spent & pain caused from my back has me ready to beg ppl I know across the state to just send me love LOL. Now, they changed my favorite tobacco with the cut, so, 🤷♀️
For dry tobacco…put some ice berg lettuce leafs in the container with your tobacco. The tobacco will absorb the moisture from the lettuce and distribute it evenly.
Had mine for about 4 years. I just fluff the tobacco in the bag as I'm filling the hopper. Mine will jam about 3-4 times per 50 I roll. Usually, all I have to do is lift the lid, hit the start button, and it will eject a filled cig regardless of the jam notification. About half the time that fixes it until the next jam. If it doesn't, I reach in sideways with my open scissors all the way down through the tobacco to slide tray at the bottom. I then close the scissors just enough to act like tongs and pull the tobacco up out of the slide tray. I then reach in and snip the tobacco in the hopper a few times. That always fixes it and either way only takes a few seconds.
I'm going to wait to get one of these until more information/reviews about how these do with "shag"cut, people are already saying the "shag" cut jams bad,.
The powermatic is a good macine but has failed at 18,000. The rubber ring that hold the cigarette in place failed at 12,000. Could not find replacement parts for the machine. Overall the cost savings far outweighs disadvantages considering the cost of purchasing a pack at the store is $7 and you can make a pack for around $2.
As I sit here watching the video with me puny little plastic manual Gambler cigarette machine. 1 ciggy at a time. Load the chamber, slip the tube on the thingy. close lid, slide it and there you have it. lol I smoke a carton a week. Been making them like this since 2007. I figured if I can't afford to buy by the pack, how can I justify buying an electric machine? I'm watching the different models videos to see how to proceed. I'm ready for a huge upgrade. This machine will pay for itself after 2 cartons. It's a fantastic machine. If you don't use the dust in the bottom of the bag, it'll last a long time. I'm on year 4 with my powermatic 3+. Opened it once from the bottom to clean out the caked on gunk a few months ago. Very easy to do and only took a few minutes.
You and I think alike here. I couldn’t justify spending 200 ish on an automatic machine when I upgraded from the plastic sliding contraption years ago. I compromised and spent 50 or so on a manual crank style. Much better than the plastic one and I can crank them out pretty fast. Takes practice and patience. Good luck
@@JP-eb3oz thanks, Had to change tobacco. After that long of a time they had started cutting it half the size it used to be so you end up using twice as much tobacco per cig. I will say that buying menthol tubes or tobacco is a waste of time, because the menthol just evaporates. I've been using the insertable crush-balls from Amazon, and also tried the Cartel Click tubes (those are good but really expensive). In any case the crush ball activated the menthol when i crush it and light up, so it doesn't evaporate. Masks the somewhat awful flavor of many of the tubes and tobaccos I've tried as well.
