Hi Guys, Harriet and I enjoyed our time in Bristol . The weather is not always cooperative but we had a most enjoyable time with relatives from Cambrdge. Toured City Centre and Redcliffe. The food was great. Great Memories of the area. Thank you for taking us along. Sending you lots of love. 💖💖 Jim and Harriet. Richmond, Va.
I loved the Queen Victoria statue! Funny story about the cathedral... it was across the road from where we had lunch, so I told Ian I wanted to visit. He said that he hadn't heard of it, so he resisted. But I kind of insisted, and we LOVED IT! Such a stunning building! Sorry you didn't get to go inside. That certainly has happened to me a million times ;-)
Bristol was the hometown of one of my Physics heroes, Paul Dirac, Nobel Laureate who predicted the positron (antimatter) in 1928 and discovered in 1933 by Clyde Tombaugh. It is 3rd after Oxbridge in Highly Regarded Universities in Britain. Here's a Kirkwood story for you, Eliz and Derek. When I was a sophomore, I stayed in the summer in Btown and nobody carded you when you went into Nick's or Bear's Place, or any other bar (Kilroys wasn't invented yet). So I got to know all the regular workers there and when school started again they all just waved me through because they new me.
Wow I didn’t realize the university in Bristol was so renowned, that’s really cool! Haha, sounds like you had a fabulous Kirkwood experience in college!!! 😅😅🍻
Over 20k steps! We had also done a big shopping trip at Asda after breakfast and before the rain stopped (lots of walking around the store), but I decided not to add that footage to this video 😀
Yes, so glad we found the Vietnamese place! Just wish I had ordered what Derek did, LOL! Plus our breakfast was yummy, too. That said, in our last vlog, we arrived at Bristol at the end of a long driving day and went to a restaurant called Riverstation - which would be my #1 spot that I recommend to any foodie visiting Bristol. :)
I'm laughing because Eliz, I said THE SAME THING when I saw the unicorn atop the city hall in Bristol!😂 We had been to Scotland (specifically Edinburgh) before that too. haha
The Hole in The Wall Pub you walked by is origin of a very famous book involving Long John Silver Also one of first US consulate was established in Queens Square just after the Revolution.Castle Park appears as a tranquil place however it was the main shopping area of Bristol loss during the the 2 World War, St Peters Church is a permanent reminder of the sacrifices the population endures.
I love doing self-guided walking tours, walking around is such a nice way to explore an unfamiliar town. Plus I'm a plaque reader, historic societies love people like me as I stop and read every historic plaque I see! I get frustrated if I'm in a country whose language I can't read! Or use a script I can't decode!
Poor Queen Anne, the one thing that I know about her was that she had 17 (!!!!) pregnancies and no children survived to adulthood. Most pregnancies ended in miscarriages or still births, her longest surviving child died at the age of 11.
Hahaha I didn’t want you to think I was lying that we were filming on a different day, since the weather changed so drastically! 🤣🤣🤣 But also as a kind warning not to wear cotton trousers out into constant rain ☔️
Thanks for the spoiler! I was excited to do my Cotswolds series... but now that I've done several videos and still have 15 more to go... it's wearing me out!! haha

I'm so embarrassed that on our day trip to Bristol I didn't know about the Banksy connection!!
You’ll have to go back to Bristol this summer!
Great City where I worked in Queen Square for 10 years.
We loved Bristol!
I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have fabulous food in Bristol! We ate at two really delicious places there. I think we got lucky 🍀
Oh yay ! Just got to the part of the video where you had the yummy Vietnamese dinner!

We love reading plaques too! Kindred spirits!
What you called the city hall building is known by locals as the Coun Slouse!😅
Interesting! Thanks for letting us know the local name! 😀

Oh my goodness, poor Queen Anne for real! What a rough time!
@@MeansToTravel I know, that's why the only fact that I can remember about her was all her pregnancies!
I'm loving this town, sign me up anytime.
There are still so many pubs to try!
Thanks for the trouser note... was that because you didn't want us to think you wet your pants?
Hahaha I didn’t want you to think I was lying that we were filming on a different day, since the weather changed so drastically! 🤣🤣🤣 But also as a kind warning not to wear cotton trousers out into constant rain ☔️
Had a great time exploring this city with you! And so close to Bath and the Cotswolds… (spoiler alert?)
Spoiler alert for sure! I did too, babe!
Thanks for the spoiler! I was excited to do my Cotswolds series... but now that I've done several videos and still have 15 more to go... it's wearing me out!! haha
