    This video is the best I have seen so far!! If your car cranks but does not turn on it's your ignition coil. If one day your car was working perfectly and you came out a few hours or the next day to turn it on and it doesn't then it's your ignition coil. But first check all your fuses and see if you have fuel. also check if you have spark with the spark plug wire; screw driver trick. If no spark it's your ignition coil!

    Hey I just wanted to thank you for this video , my 2000 Honda wouldn't start last Saturday and I am not much of a mechanic believe me. Anyhow I had power so I new it was the distributer and by watching your video I was able to put the ignition coil in myself it wasn't as quick as you did as I had a couple of screws that were stripped but I got it done so thank you so much.

    Thanks for the video. My car died on me last night while i was driving a drunk friend to get some taco bell. Traced the problem down to the ignition and thankfully had someone pull in and offer to give me a tow. Your video helped me out greatly in replacing the ignition coil in my 99 civic EX. Thank you very much!

    A new Ignition Control Module was $110. An entire rebuilt distributor was $200. I just bought a new one and it works like a charm.

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @eric31291 Mine that I bought didn't come with the screws. You might take one to a hardware store or a Honda dealership and see if they can match it. And no, I've not had any issues with this coil at all. It's really helped me in this cold weather lately, I'll tell you that much. It's been down in the single digits here several times. Easy cold starts and responsive. I've never heard of staying away from aftermarket ignition parts. This one gets a thumbs up.

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @moose1328 From a cold start, it was like night and day. Before with the stock coil, it would crank a couple times. Now, it starts up almost immediately every time. It also gave it a little pep too. Better acceleration.

    Sorry bro, don't monitor every comment. And you're correct, I'm not an expert. I just did a video on how to replace the ignition coil. Ask your mechanic or a Honda dealer how to check it with a multimeter. Honestly, not even worth the trouble. Just replace it anyways.

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheLegalizeIt You can use a 17mm socket to try to crank over the engine to make sure it isn't locked up. The bolt is behind the left wheel, there is a hole in the splash guard to access it. First before you spend a bit of money, I would check: spark plugs, wires, and make sure it can turn over. You may check the rotor as well to make sure it isn't worn out.

    @somedudeandacomp Yep! Best $20 I ever spent on that car. May sound dumb, but I actually felt a difference with those strut bars. Steering was handling were much better and responsive.

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's an interesting one, and here's what I'd do. Go ahead and check all the easy stuff. Spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap. Make sure the distributor connector isn't corroded and it has a solid connection. Other than that, I'd try a new distributor.

  • @slicknick50

    @TheLegalizeIt Not sure how to check if the fuel filter is clogged, but you could replace it and see if it helps. And the fuel pump, its the sound you hear when you turn the key over before it starts. A brief humming sound. Not sure how to test it though. And yes, there will be 2 holes at the end of the dipstick. The oil should be between the 2 holes. If there is no oil at all...that's a problem. That would explain the engine not starting.

  • @thewebmogul
    @thewebmogul 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Should have started the engine so we can all see if it starts very quick?

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheLegalizeIt Hm...check the oil maybe? If it sat for 2 months, check it just in case. It could be your fuel system as well. If it's just not getting fuel, could be a clogged fuel filter or failing fuel pump.

    This is a very good video and well laid out and explained. Keep up the good work. Keep those videos coming. How much of a difference did you notice with the new accel ignition coil?

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ambis99 I would think if the coil is bad, the check engine light would come on. You can always go to an Advanced Auto parts or somewhere to get them to read the code for free. The idle could be a few things...I know my idle issues were solved after I cleaned my IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). It's located on the intake manifold. If you need a video on how to check and clean that, I could make one. Just let me know.

    Disconnect the plug to the distributor before cranking it! This is a common mistake people make, and the coil will try to fire without the cap on, and the spark will ground to whatever it finds closest, or easier........which just might be the ICM. My wife took her civic to a shop while I was out of town for a tune up, they screwed up by cranking the motor with the cap off, and fried the ICM, but instead of replacing the ICM they replaced it with a used distributor...... I was very upset!

    @slicknick50 I could post another video sometime today if you'd like to know how to remove the fuel filter. Just let me know.

  • @slicknick50
    @slicknick50  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheLegalizeIt What kind of noise is it? Before you replace the coil and rotor, I would first check all the spark plugs and check for wear. If they're old, go ahead and replace them. Also check the spark plug wires. Check them for cracking, fraying, and check the ends. If they're the originals, I would replace them anyways but that's just me. And make sure your battery is well charged. Does the engine turn over? If not, it could be your starter.

    I drive a 98 Civic Ex for a month now and recently it started to shut off on me randomly. I was going 45 mph and boom, it shut off. I had to pull over and reignite the car. It started up perfectly fine, then it happen again the next day. I ran a scan and two codes appear; 0135 oxygen sensor and 1362 ignition bypass. Which one should I attempt first to fix this problem!? Help please.

    Hey. My 2000 civic sometimes has a rough start. I've changed 3 out of the 4 spark plugs(4th one won't) come out. I changed the plugs as well. Do you think it's a good idea to change the ignition coil? It mostly happens on a cold start. Warm engine start is no problem.

  • @slicknick50

    If buy a tach kit brand new, they usually have instructions on how to do so. If not, your local shop could help ya out and probably not even charge you. Could also try searching Google, I'm sure plenty of others have installed tachs.

    I replaced my coil about 3 months ago and my car was running fine. Just last weekend my car wouldnt start and i checked the spark and there was none. I assumed the coil was fautly so i had it tested and the resistance was a tad high so they gave me a replacement. I put the new one in and it still doesnt spark. Could this be the ignition control module is bad? Please Help.

    Are you getting a spark at all to the plugs? With new plugs and wires, I would suspect the coil or distributor itself. You also may look into a new fuel filter to confirm that it's not clogged. I'm not a professional mechanic but that's my $0.02 as to what I'd do myself.

  • @slicknick50

    The car seemed more responsive, not much power gained to be honest. You need serious engine and drivetrain work to get much power out of these engines. But do expect more mpg and better response once you do both installs.
