When you held up the led tape behind the plastic part you really couldn't see the separate lights too badly, unless it looks different off camera. Another way to cut down on hot spots is using the plastic milk gallon jugs. It is opaque and cuts down on that pretty good. Or you can do as I do like on the bid deflector dish on my 350th refit, I used the frosted glass spray paint from walmart. That does the trick too. Another suggestion is to cut a piece of styrene the Sam curve as the model and the width between the two pieces, cut the led tape into sections as you can't curve it and mount them obave the opening as I did on my nacelles on the refit. The light shines down but is still just as bright if you do your light blocking and give it a good coat of gloss white. You can also go to Armando de la Cabada or DLC Model Builders and check out how he did his as he built the fine molds one a few years back. Just a few suggestions for you. This should turn out pretty nice when your finished. I still have to get around to my base for the star destroyer. Picked up my materials for it, just need to get motivated. It is just going to be a mirrored base as there is a lot on the underside of the model to show off.
    Take care and happy modeling!

Thanks for all the great tips! I've sprayed a dull coat over it and it seems to help diffuse the light. Looking forward to seeing your finished Star Destroyer!

You are welcome. The model is done, just need to make the base as I make all my own bases. I also do woodcrafts too. I started a couple of other models that are pretty quick and simple so I am going to make bases for all of them together, that way I don't have to keep digging out all my woodworking tools. Just makes it easier to cut pieces for all of them at once.
